    Hi! I have an old CQ57 which I'd like to upgrade, and an ADATA SP550 SSD with an Ubuntu installation on it. I've tried putting the SSD in the laptop, but it couldn't be recognised in the BIOS. Do you know if there's a way to make it work?
    I also couldn't find a BIOS update for the CQ57 on HP's website, so I wasn't able to test if that would work.
    Many thanks!

      Yes, I've had issues with old computers not recognising some SSDs, but I found that the Crucial MX 500 SSDs tend to be recognised by most laptops, including this CQ57. (I also could not locate a BIOS update for this model.)

    What ssd would you recommend for that computer? I have a similar one I believe it's either cq57 or cq58, is it possible to upgrade it graphics card?

      I like the Crucial MX500 SSDs, as they seem to work in most laptops (even older ones). Sadly no, you can't upgrade the graphics.

    Hi! I have an old laptop, a compaq (HP) nx6325, I bought a SSD to install in the laptop, but it can not read the SSD. The SSD works in any laptop of 2015 > . Do you know any idea to fix it? Cheers!!

      It's possible you may need to update the BIOS. I find that the Crucial SSDs usually work in older laptops, but I have not worked on that specific model so can't say for sure. Sorry.

    Can I put a SSD with the Windows already on it into a laptop? Wouldn't it delete something from it? My gigabyte motherboard just gave up and I need to finish my work. Can I just swap the drive? Wouldn't it install some kind of the HP tools? Like the QuickWeb and other unnecessary things?

      Do you think it would be possible to replace the wifi card for the eGPU?

      Windows 10 can often successfully handle being moved from one computer to another with dissimilar hardware, but it's not guaranteed to work. And yes, there is a risk that attempting to do what you're asking could cause Windows to become corrupted.
      If possible, you should clone your drive to another drive so that you have two copies, and then put the cloned drive into the laptop. That way, if something goes wrong, you still have the original drive.

    What performance did you get with the upgrade? Was it worth the upgrade?

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  3 года назад +7

      Yes, it was definitely worth it. Moving from a hard drive to an SSD gave a huge performance boost, and upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 should allow the laptop to stay updated moving forward. The customer was very happy with the upgrades.

      @@ComputerHelpNI you could just install Linux

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  2 года назад +3

      @@NCXitlali Yes, these older laptops would probably run Linux with little effort. In this case, however, the customer wanted Windows 10, and it eventually installed and works correctly.

    I hope that You can help me.. In Buy a crucial MX500 480gb, after instaling the SSD install the OS win10.. But the instalation don't finish.. The laptop restart ando nothing..

    • @ComputerHelpNI
      @ComputerHelpNI  Год назад

      That's strange, especially since the computer was able to see the SSD and allowed you to install Windows. I would try installing Windows again, having the Windows installer delete the partitions it created.
      When you say the laptop restarts and then does nothing, do you mean it turns on and all you see is a blank screen with no text at all? Are any lights on? Are any lights flickering?

    • @ArnaldoPerezBanz
      @ArnaldoPerezBanz Год назад

      Windows 10 was installed, but just before completing the installation and asking for user account information, the computer threw the message "An error has occurred that prevents us from preparing the pc". It said that I had to connect the internet and update to see if it was solved but it was an infinite loop.. after detailing your video I did the same, I installed Windows 7 and from the Microsoft tool Update to Windows 10.. It takes a long time, but now it works perfectly.

      Check to ensure that the cooling fan is working and ensure there isn't too much dust in the air passages / radiator. You might also want to remove the heat sink and reapply the thermal paste.

      Can you see the new SSD from the BIOS? If so, what software did you use to clone the original disk over to the SSD? If you can't see the SSD from the BIOS, what type (make and model) of SSD are you using? (Sorry for taking so long to reply.)

      @@user-to9mh3pe6o I don't know it that laptop can run Windows 10. You could probably install Windows 10, but it might be impossible to find the correct drivers for laptop's chipset, LAN, and graphics chips. To be honest, I'm not sure whether this laptop had 32- or 64-bit Windows installed, as this laptop only had 4GB of RAM. My Windows 10 installation media contained both versions and automatically launched the correct one, so I didn't notice.
