It's actually funny that you mistook Keira Knightley for Natalie Portman, because the two of them both played Queen Amidala in Star Wars Episode 1, and with the makeup on even their own parents couldn't tell them apart
According to the filmmakers, when Barbossa states "Thank you Jack" to the monkey, you can see Jack the monkey smiling. This actually happened purely by chance when filming the scene and it got left in the final cut.
“You best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner... you're in one!”- Capt. Barbosa. Best line in the movie and then we got the BEST reveal sequence in the movie.
I absolutely love this movie. It is perfect in every way and really makes me miss being in the Navy. There is nothing in the world like being in the middle of the vast oceans of the world. I had already been in the Navy for five years when this came out in theaters and I loved it from the start. Every time I see this movie I want to be back sailing the oceans of the world. I may not be in the Navy anymore, but I will be a Sailor to the day I draw my last breath.
The word parlay literally means “to talk”. When used in the context of the movie it means “peace talks” “Ila de muerta” means island of death in Spanish
Parlay is a betting term, where you put your winnings from a bet, back as another bet. (Not french). Parler is the (unconjugated) verb to talk in French. Parlez would to speak to a Group, or Formal / Respected person. All pronounced the same.
Fun fact: Keira's mother was on set at all times because Keira was actually a minor at the time of filming. She was 17 years old and only had just started becoming a widely known actress because of her main role in Bend it Like Beckham. (Not a lot of people knew that she was in Star Wars actually) But because she has kissing scenes with Orlando, she needed to have her legal guardians around to supervise.
The 'Interceptor' was just the name of the ship, named for its speed, taken from the word "intercept. I think you'd find not being able to die, to be a curse. Imagine seeing all your friends and family growing old and passing on while you did not.
the curse is actually even worse than just normal immortality. They feel all the pain of extreme hunger and thirst without being able to die and no matter what they eat and drink, it never goes away
A good movie about the curse of immortality is Highlander. Queen does a song called who wants to live forever. Makes me cry every time I watch the movie
10:32 Although in the story, that was supposed to be called sand or mud so that the blacksmiths could use it to put out the fires. Actually, the filmmakers used powdered chocolate when spraying Orlando Bloom. XD
Welcome to the weirdness of the English language :D Interceptor's root is Intercept (and yeah, "inter" most often means "between" when used as a prefix before a word) which basically means to catch up with something. Usually used in military planes these days, an Interceptor Fighter plane is meant to be fast to catch up with and fight enemy planes (like bombers). Keep it up! :D
Good explanation, and intercept usually does refer to the "between" part considering interceptor fighters are meant to be fast and engage enemy bombers well before they reach their target, compared to regular defensive fighters or ground AA guns which stay much closer. Or to intercept a message before it reaches its destination.
Intercept probably has the same root as Interrupt, to stop something from doing something. Intercept (Interrupt) a Pass, message, attacker... "Between" doesn't have much to do with it.
@@lokithecat7225 Even 'interrupt' comes from 'between', since you break (rupt as in 'rupture') transmission between the sender and the recipient. Intercept comes from 'caught between'.
Intercept means to head off or prevent an object from reaching it's destination. Interceptor ships were generally faster than most, allowing them to chase down of head them off before getting away. There are interceptor missiles these days that are designed to head off other missiles or aircraft before they reach their targets. Have a great day and enjoy a new word in your vocabulary. :)
Orlando Bloom, before he got casted, was in the running for the role of Will Turner with Heath Ledger. Gore Verbinski ended up choosing Orlando Bloom because he seemed to be the better bankable option, because Orlando was in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. XD
I felt bad for Barbosa at the end, so long time waiting to feel something warm again, to taste an apple, he dies with the apple dropping and feeling cold.
The docking of Jack‘s sinking boat was frigging genius! What an entrance! And how close the movie follows the Walt Disney „DisneyLand“ ride. The bit with the dog having the keys in the jail cell and prisoner trying to get the dog to come with a bone…..memory took me right back to the time I visited the amusement park….in the late 1970‘s! Cheers
you would probly like Black sails a really good pirate series that was on Stars thats based of the book treasure island im pretty sure and is full of characters based off real pirates from the early 1700's
37:17 From the second floor you don't even need sheets, especially if there's grass below. Just be sure to roll when you land or it really hurts your feet.
A Pirate named Monkey D. Luffy once said Pirates choose what they want to do and where they want to go, anywhere across the open sea, nothing comes close to a life of adventure.
"Pirates who do nothing" trope. In real life they were thieves and killers who could not handle being honest sailors during peace time so they started plundering any ships they came across. NOT adventurers.
blue 2 Is talking about a show called One Piece and the main character is a pirate who loves nothing more than going on adventures not all pirates are bad some pirates just want to be free, ADVENTURE.
@@carlydavenport629 Well, most pirates were bad. The pirates currently operating off the coast of Somalia, in the Gulf of Aden & Arabian Sea, are probably much nicer than the pirates that sailed the Caribbean in the 16 & 1700’s.
When the live action series finally comes out this year on Netflix this comment is going to be extremely underrated. I just found out that Winston Duke, Jamie Lee Curtis, Taika Waititi, Avril Lavigne and Jacob Bertrand are all big fans of One Piece, I can't wait!!
•One of Jack's greatest catchphrases, "Why is the rum gone?" •Jonathan Pryce, who plays Governor Swann, was in Bedtime Stories, G.I. Joe, The Two Popes, Game of Thrones, and has been cast to play the late Prince Philip in the final two seasons of The Crown. •Well they were blown up from the inside. •It's a wooden eye. •He's A Pirate is the name of the theme song.
Inter..esting how you dissected Inter-ceptor but actually the word is Interceptus. Latin. Meaning many things, one of which is in the old english meaning as a verb, "to stop, deflect, or seize on the way from one place to another; prevent from arriving or proceeding." An INTERCEPTOR is an object or person that does the above job of Intercepting another object or person. "Ya best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner. Cause you're in one". Never gets old.
Johnny Depp, for this movie had a fake version of the Jack Sparrow tattoo. But after this movie premiered, he got a real tattoo of it in honor of his son who is named Jack.
Hey Miss Blue,,,, sorry… CAPTAIN Blue. “How’s Trix?” So were u going to tie several sheets together to descend down from the second floor? Or use one sheet as a parachute? When I was 8 or 10, after watching Mary Poppins, I grabbed an umbrella and started struggling to get the ladder out of the garage. My dad asked what r u doing? “I’m going to jump off the roof and float down like Mary Poppins.” To my surprise he got th ladder out for me and set it up. The house was only one story tho. Looked down, opened the umbrella, and…. jumped. Swoosh Bam. My dad got a good laugh out of that. “So, How did it go?” I got up from the ground “Well, you can feel the umbrella offered a little resistance, but it didn’t work.” No idea why I shared that story. You have a unique look. Kinda like a pearl. Not a Black Pearl. But a creamy pearl with blue tips. 🙂
Just watched your reaction to The Curse of the Black Pearl " . Hope by now you have seen the rest of the Pirates of the Caribbean. So I can enjoy your reactions
We never get to see the pirates in these movies doing any plundering or pilfering. All they ever do is fight among themselves, and against the navy, who are after them for all the plundering and pilfering we've never seen them do.
We see the aftermath of the Pearls plundering of a ship at the very beginning of the movie, not to mention their attack of Port Royal when they retrieve the medallion. Don't forget the cave was filled with treasure that they had plundered/ pilfered over years and we're hoarding until their curse was lifted.
I love you edition doll. You're doing a great job. Will keep looking you vids, and watching on IG, If so you suggest it, But your edition is great. Keep it up my dear.
No not Natalie Portman, But Keira Nightly. But they played the same character on Star Wars TPM. The both played Queen Amidala. Natalie was The Queen and Keira was her decoy. The one scene they were together was where they met with Boss Noss before the battle.
It's probably important to remember that some of the things we see are based purely on pirate stereotypes. It is believed that pirates generally did not behave in such dramatic fashion as shown in the movie. Of course there would have to be exceptions, otherwise these stereotypes would never have come about.
A movie where you live forever. Maybe, Highlander? Would like to see your reaction to Halloween comedies. Hocus Pocus, Elvira's Mistress of the Dark, Night Before Christmas, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, etc...
Amazing reaction! 😁. Hey can you add "lord of the rings" to your list!? It has the most awards out of any movie! The best trilogy ever in my opinion. Thanks! 😊

I've seen multiple people confuse the two when watching this
*Jack turns into a skeleton*
Blue: "Hot as Fuck! Cursed men are hot"
Damn! Jack give that girl a bone.
I see that you did there.
Naughty, naughty.
Kira Knightly looks a lot like Natalie Portman. So much so, she was one of her decoys in The Phantom Menace.
She was THE decoy.
Anytime you see Padme and Amadala together onscreen, Amadala is Kira.
Kiera Knightly’s own mother had trouble telling her and Natalie Portman apart when they did Phantom Menace together

You forgot to mention parlay (parlez) comes from the French... lovely people. Did you know they invented mayonnaise?
It's interesting that a lot of legal phrases in English come from the French and Norman French, the British "Parliament" comes from the word.
@Ken Stadelbauer yee except it’s « parler » in french, still pronounced like parlay tho

The lady pirate that slaps Jack and says he stole her boat is Zoey Saldana, Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Have you seen Heath in Brothers Grimm? He can manage a walk equally silly as Jack Sparrow's. No match for John Cleese, though.
