- Want to become an immovable object? The Gendarme is a powerful invisible shield & is actually the best in Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age! It absorbs all elemental damage! Usually it is a VERY low drop rate but I will show you how to get as many as you want 100% of the time you try! Also the video shows the location fo the Excalibur! I know right? XD I was like wtf, why is thar no map of this place, so I dug out a notebook, ruler, a nickel or quarter and a pencil so I could not get lost.
Back when this was first out I didn't have regular access to the internet. So I would of been in the same boat! This was mind bending enough with this map.

Yes this still works as summer 2024 with the ps4 and the latest patch. Yes you can do it with reddas (I had him knocked out KO'd, no idea if that matters tho). And works even if you have already defeated the Ultima before, just get back to the great crystal.

It's pretty amazing right. The guys over at GameFaqs, including Zirth, have a pretty deep knowledge of RNG mainipulation. It's fascinating.
Zirth knows that if the chest in the room spawns you are in a very specific RNG sequence once in that sequence he knows the needed actions to move your RNG to a guaranteed rare loot location. Now the leave and enter in again I am lost on.
Just tried it and absolutely works.

Still works as of 4/16/2020. For those of you struggling to hit for 0 damage, I used a Foebreaker/Skihari Vaan and had the Aegis shield equipped to negate the damage, but avoid being blocked by the shield. Thanks for the tutorial, LEK!

Thanks for the vid, worked like you stated. On the 5th time I tried this however I got the 4 hit combo on my 6th personal attack, thought it was weird so just did 1 more attack. Got the meteorite and left. Came back to the sheild. Mainly posting this as reference to see if it happens to anyone else.
For fellow switch users I will save you the trouble. I've done two attempts on two different characters each and got no luck. Doesn't combo on 9th try. Interestingly I always get meteorite in the chest. But nothing else matches. Seems like RNG manipulation doesn't work the same on this version.

I heard it's only working on PS4
I can also confirm it doesn't work on xbox.
With leaving end re-entering the room it took me about 8 hours to get the shield on the switch , 15 times before meterorite and a few times gil .
I can confirm it works with a guest in your party (Reddas)

Got any tips? I'm using van and reddas, diamond, hands free, I hit for zero on self, but van never combos, and the chest fails to respond or yield gendarme. I appreciate your guest comfirm, but I wants the sheild...

Still works as of 2020 (with Reddas in the party also).

Probably a total coincidence, but I got Mina (Nagasa F) to drop from Larva Eater on my 1st after successfully getting Gendarme. It showed up at the Waystone X platform.
And, that was after I had spent an hour resetting an auto save trying to get it to drop in a different location.

Nota para los que hablen español: El escudo no aparece como Gendarme, sino que se llama "Cetra". Hacerlo tal cual lo dice y NO ELIJAN el personaje que tiene el job "Clérigo" (Monk) porque si hace daño a sí mismo. Yo por ejemplo, utilicé a Fran que es la tengo de arquera (archer) y hace cero daño con las manos vacías.

Confirmed this also works with Reddas in your party. A note though, I tried it first without being fully heal, and the combo was much higher than a 4 hit. So make sure the party member is healed.
I did this 3 times without being fully healed, worked just like the video.

So one problem I did run into, and this method absolutely works perfectly when executed perfectly, was player error on my part. Attacking yourself, if you enter the commands too quickly or disrupt the combo on the 9th command and still do the 10th command. Yes technically you did command attack yourself 10 times but since the combo was interrupted it then didnt count and you need to start again from step 1, because the shield will not be in the room if you leave and come back in.
Also works with a guest character. Tried it myself with Reddas on my party. You just need to kill him before you do the Gendarm stuff.
Thanks KOW! I did it! I got me a Gendarme! :) Um, Brawler does affect this. My Vaan killed himself. :( So, use a character that DOES NOT have Brawler. :)
Nice! Just got me 4 of these bad boys. My party is already Lvl 93-94 so I was running out of things left to do besides leveling.
They are pretty amazing. They are a bit late in the game. If you can clear The Crystal and kill Ultima you are pretty good anyhow.
I got 6 shields no problem. easy. thanks for the video. I left the room, re entered, got auto save then reload game and repeat. Not sure if I had to reload each time but it worked for me.
you don't need to save, just leave and re-enter.
still works in 2023 , if it doesnt work for you or your struggling, make sure your not just zoning out to reset that combo hit chance but resetting to the screen to get that combo hit chance.
it works even if you are ko with your 10th hit. You just have to switch your character
I can confirm that having a guest does not change the results. Note, I had the following:
Vaan Lv. 67 w/Magepower, Maximillian, and Diamond Armlet
Reddas was KO’d
By fluke, the video is also Lv67 with the same gear but I can’t confirm if that matters. But, the guest has to be KO’d.

Trying now. Just having trouble getting the chest to spawn.
Tried this several times doesn't work but I'm playing on Xbox One so when you can figure out how to manipulate the RNG to get all the broken over powered seitengrat, great trango and the gerdame shield please post a video!
Just use the FF12RNGHelper to spawn the chest and then get the shield, none of these tricks are needed anymore, I got all 6 of mine without needing to restart the game.

I have been reading forums/ guides for weeks leading up to release >_< It was all really confusing til I actually jumped in the game and put it all together.

I defeated Ultima long time ago and come back to the Great Crystal to get the Gendarma. Do I have still chance to make RNG manipulation to work?
Guys if you’re playing in switch the RNG method to my knowledge hasn’t been figured out yet....took my 6 hours but I have 1 gendarme, I’m aiming for 2 so get ready for a long one out on your favorite show, RUclips channel or podcast.

So this works if you have Reddas as a guest. I KO'd him in prep. So it's the same as having only one party member

As of June 2021 this still works but not exactly as explained. i had to leave and enter the area over 30 or 40 times to get the chest to appear and i had to attack myself probably the same number of times to get the 4 hit combo. A 3 hit combo will not work it HAS to be a 4 hit combo then 1 more attack. I got sick of hitting myself and tried it getting a 3 hit combo and it didnt work. Ad again I had to attack myself WAY more than 9 freaking times. it doesn't matter which character you use, I tried it with Vaan using the same gear the guy in the video had and I killed myself after 8 hits so switched to Ashe and it worked. Good Luck!

It works if you have Reddas, just make sure no buffs, and turn off gambits also

Is 90 evade the maximum? Because you could increase it to 140 with one of the daggers. If it caps out at 90 how ever this would be quite the waste.
I'm not getting any combos on my 9th attack. Here's what I have:
Fran, lvl 59 archer/red battlemage
unarmed
-
circlet
glimmering robes
diamond armlet
and no buffs/debuffs whatsoever... Something that I'm missing or it won't work on PC?

This game has so many itens that depends on luck that I have any kind of remorse using broken strategies

Can you use that method more than once to get multiple copy’s?
If you have beaten Ultima there's not much reason to get this shield as you cheese everything. Only a few bosses would remain worth fighting if you haven't gotten them yet.

Yeah I agree. Like Tidus says though, it will be handy for Trial. If you could get this around the same time as the bow it would be broken as heck.

Great Trango works with the shield on any class and does higher DPS in a lot of situations..

Does this work if you have a guest in the team? I tried with Reddas, killed him of course, but I end up getting two meteorites when following this method.
Someone commented earlier saying that it did work. But I cannot confirm this myself.
arrietta this happened to me, then I realised I had changed character and didn't equip diamond amulet?
yup. i did it with reddas. he was still alive too. with just fran as my only party member active. i dont think it matters who, just as long as theyre not buffed.
make sure your diamond armlet is equipped, your weapons/shield are unequipped and you dont have any buffs (including libra) and that you completely close out of the game after you autosave in the area you fought ultima. then load the game, load ur autosave and rezone til chest spawns. hit urself 10 times and then open chest for meteorite. zone out and back in, there will be a chest with the gendarme in it.
im surprised how easy this was compared to manipulating the rng for other invisible weapons and whatnot. i dont even know why i did it, i dont really use any shields on my characters and havent got to the pharos yet to farm the orichalcum i need to craft the kumbha, but im thinking the khumba + gendarme would be a ridiculous setup but not quite as game breaking as the seitengrat.
I've gotten two in a row in the last 10 mins. Couldn't get an any-hit combo for the life of me, and no shield. With Fran and Reddas, if I instead attack myself 16 times, when I open the chest it has Gendarme inside.

Ok so it just happened I killed reddas and I'm using just Ashe who is white Mage/machinist with gold hairpin and power vest equiped hope that helps

@@mitrimind1027 Sadly RNG manipulation does not work on both the Switch and Xbox One versions of the game. Don't know about PC, but most RNG manipulation videos for FFXII The Zodiac Age are the PS4 version.

Watched this video to make sure this shield was real...Been farming this on the Nintendo switch version (no RNG manipulation) for two weeks now about an hour a day and still haven’t been able to get it.
Ps4 version on ps5. Still works as of 14Aug2022

Yep i think i can confirm that its not working on pc version. I tried everything like wait until you get a 4 hit combo, almost 2 hours doing this method and got 11 meteorites but nope still got nothing.
