    Thanks Dwayne. Really helpful. I think I would be tempted to waterproof the boards before I fitted them so that they would be sealed on the edges and the bottom, but in fairness - the boards might already have been fitted when you acquired the trailer. In that case - I guess I would have done the same as you. I think in time water spray from driving in wet conditions will ingress into the wood from underneath and some water might seep into the wood from the sides of the boards if it drips down from the top surface.

      I just installed new pine construction 2 X 6's in my trailer. I put in the first board and used screws from the under side. They placed in the second board with heavy glue on the edge. Used a furniture clamp to pull it tight to the first board and again used screws from the under side. Did my entire trailer that way. Absolutely no void between each board. The boards were Thompson Water Sealed before I put them in and then applied a second coat the top of the deck after completely the install of all new wood sides. Everything is now coated with Thompson Water Seal. looks great and now I shall see if it will last or not, Water appears to repel off everything. Yes, it cannot run off in between the deck boards because they are all glued together. So far so good with regular construction grade #2 pine. Got boards at Home Depot as their lumber looked real good. Treated lumber is not the best grade and is usually not uniform in thickness. Thats why I choose to use the pine.

      @DwayneDelacruz  3 года назад +1

      Adil Khan first of all, thank you so much for subscribing man!! I appreciate that big time!
      To answer your question, I actually haven’t used the trailer in awhile, it’s been in the sun baking for about a month lol, but if you’re talking about keeping it clean from spills, I’m sure whatever you spill on top of the wood after the water sealer has dried will just sit on top of the wood bubbled up and you can probably just wipe it off...I have not spilled anything on it yet...just the water that you saw me spill in the video.
      After 2 months of baking in the sun at 105+ degrees a day, the wood looks a little different, as if the sealant is wearing off, though I haven’t tried to spill liquid on it to test out if it is still working properly...maybe I’ll do a 2 month update video on it, to see if the sealant is still good 😃

  • @gybx4094
    @gybx4094 3 года назад +5

    The new TWS in the "green" 5 gallon barrel is much different than their traditional water seal in the red container. The newer sealant is much thicker and most hand pump sprayers will clog. I apply with a long handle deck brush. It will darken the wood, but I'm OK with that. I've found the newer "green container" formula lasts longer than their original "red" brand.

    It would have been better if you did each board individually that way you could get each side, especially the end grain sides. I, personally, would have done two coats with a week of dry time in between and stain it as well. Need to also protect it against UV, which is what affects everything. It degrades the effectiveness of the sealer, then starts the decaying of the wood.
