    My favorite part of these ships is the suicide attacks. Jem'hadar obeying orders without question. It makes so much sense. Mass produces soldiers and ships. Why not use them like that. When a Starfleet captain rams his ship, it's a heroic sacrifice. For the Jem'hadar, it's a Tuesday.

    I always looked at it like the zero in worldwar 2, it was very formidable the first encounters but the when the federation adapted technology the the dominion didn't. They kept the same ships and the same tactics. Like the zero by the end of the way the jem hadar fighter was outclassed.

    I wonder if the hull design is part of the suicide tactic. Perhaps the ship is that shape to ensure it cuts into a ship's hull rather than just exploding on contact.

    I think the producers specifically made the Jem Hedar Fighter for the Defiant to destroy. They wanted an enemy for the Defiant to easily dispose of but still have the Jem Hedar be a formidable opponent.

    To be fair for the Jem'Hadar Fighter, it is supposed to be the workhorse of the largest empire in the whole Milky Way. Just imagine how many species there is there, giving away their tech to the benefit of the Founders, who exploit all their scientists to produce cutting edge technology. The Jem'Hadar Fighter is basically the Defiant of the Dominion. Overpowered for its size, esigned to attack in swarms, or act alone as a reconnaissance ship. Plus, of course, giving away all that comfy space and extra features you see in Starfleet ships allowed her to pack a lot. It's kinda like a modern day "omnirole" fighter (french Rafale, or its sister fighter, the Eurofighter). It seems to be overpowered and able to do anything, when it is in reality all about having a well designed balance between everything. High complexity, high reward design (massive military savings in R&D, which is exactly what a huge Empire like the Dominion would want).

    Beetle in space. This ship and Defiant marked a change in the way the treated star trek ships in DS9. I did not really appreciate the change to be honest.
    They started moving and attacking more like starwars fighters. Then fighters crept in. The distinctive star trek feel went a bit missing I felt.
    I liked the submarinesk Wrath of Khan like battles myself.
    But I except this is just opinion.

    • @jonuiuc1
      @jonuiuc1 5 лет назад +1

      yeah I didn't like the dogfight in space that the defiant era brought to trek. the only oft used ship I disliked more than this fighter was the defiant herself.

      @ValorJ Omega be that as it may, Fighters have more or less been apart of the Beta canon/FASA, from the hornet to the Valkyrie squadrons, even stuff like the Midway Carrier. The Klingon B'rel and delta Flyer acts and was designed as a "Fighter" of sorts. As star trek has always been inspired by the Navy I don't need to stress the importance of fighters/Bombers in a fighting force. I also hate it when people compare fighters in star trek to star wars but never complain about Babylon 5 or Battlestar (which again been heavily inspired by the Navy) :)

    • @Acrosurge
      @Acrosurge 5 лет назад

      I think it is a matter of taste and opinion! I really enjoyed the feel of Balance of Terror and Wrath of Khan, however, I don't think it a good visual representation of what Star Trek ships are really capable of. They're massive, but due to technological mastery of inertia and mass, they're fast and agile! Even Borg Cubes 3+ km to a side can accelerate quickly and change direction just as fast. In my mind, this actually differentiates Star Trek combat from Star Wars. In Star Wars fighters are fast and capital ships are incredibly slow. I don't think a command for evasive maneuvers makes much sense for a capital ship unless the ship actually has a chance to evade direct hits from the enemy, and with the targeting systems commonly displayed in Trek, that takes a lot of agility, exactly the kind we do not see in Balance of Terror and Khan, but we do see in Emissary, Sacrifice of Angels, Tears of the Prophets, and ST: Nemesis.
      But I think we agree on one thing, there isn't much of a place for actual combat fighter craft in Trek. Ship of the line defenses are too strong, engines too powerful, and weapon targeting and ranges are simply too efficient to leave much tactical room for fighters. The battle in Ds9: Sacrifice of Angels illustrates this nicely, with squadron after squadron of Starfleet Attack Fighters being wiped out without much damage done to the enemy.

    • @paulgibbons2320
      @paulgibbons2320 5 лет назад

      I think its the unique approach that I liked. We already have starwars, Buck Rogers an Battlestar which have great fun with fighter craft. (Later B5). All of which I like and enjoy.
      Kirk nailed his 5 year mission with no sign of fighters. Just think that star trek did not really need it.

    I always loved the Dominion aesthetic. If you think about the structure of the Dominion it makes sense that this was a jack of all trades vessel. You're not going to control territory with Battleships, you need something swift and nimble that hits hard and can deliver troops to hot zones. The only thing that seems a little off is the slow speed. Was Dominion engine tech less advanced than Alpha Quadrant races?

    • @darman12able
      @darman12able 5 лет назад +1

      Chief Jericho in many ways they were more advanced as they had transporters with far greater range (practically out of system), could detect cloaked ships better, their weapons initially weren’t affected by federation shields and ground weapons would have an anticoagulant effect on a target to ensure they bled out without proper medical treatment. Though they seemed to have lower warp speeds and less advanced medical tech.

      Thank you Mike! I very much tried to take it to the next level and provide those animations which look like they could have been right out of DS9.
      Lol! You cant ask for a position on any pro-team..let along Discovery. Remember though, Discovery likes to go its own way and does not actively try to include superfans who really understand the old canon, as they want to forge their own stuff. (If i was on the design team i would have made changes to every single ship/station/shuttle design to make it work better in universe)

    The Dominion Bug Ship was one of those ships that I liked from the beginning, but I thought was a bit OP at first. Doing way too much for it's size... however, yes I do understand why they appeared that way AT FIRST. But then, as time went on, it became a cannon fodder kind of ship blowing up as often as Mirandas and BoPs. It really is an awesome design, though.

    I wanted to ask, Since they have redefined the size of our galaxy to somewhere between 150,000 - 200,000 light years across, how does that effect the Star Trek galaxy since there technically still on the old 100,000 (Voyager )
    Also I can start watching videos again due to Discovery now on Netflix and I don’t need to avoid spoilers.

    • @shanegraham2500
      @shanegraham2500 5 лет назад +1

      The "resizing" of the Milky Way shouldnt really effect Star Trek maps.
      What we usually think of the basic galaxy map is still the same - a center mass with long curved arms. That's still roughly 100,000 ly across.
      The resized 150,000 - 200,000 ly is simply further celestial bodies spread further out from what we now consider part of the Milky Way.
      Kinda like looking at our Solar System - most pics stop around Neptune 30 AU's out, and that's fine, but the actual outer edge is the Oort Cloud at 200,000 AU's - over half way to Alpha Centauri.

    • @lasarith2
      @lasarith2 5 лет назад

      Shane Graham Thanks 🙂 but I already knew all that lol, I was just wondering how the resize would effect the ST galaxy now , since they are on the old scale .

      @shanegraham2500 5 лет назад

      @@lasarith2 Isn't that what I answered?

    • @lasarith2
      @lasarith2 5 лет назад

      Shane Graham No, you gave the Wikipedia version, what I was asking is how do you think this - (Resize will effect the Star Trek one)
      given that they now working in a galaxy that’s smaller then it actually is, they now have an extra 25,000 to 50,000 light years explore to the edge
      Old> [-( * )-] new > {-{-[-( * )-]-}-}
      If you draw the ST galaxy map, then put the extra space - it now make what was the Dominion, and Borg space which where both near the edge of there respective quadrants, smack bang in the Center of the galaxy, Well (1/2 to 3/4) Voyager being pulled to Edge of the Delta Quadrant, is now (1/2 to 3/4)
      Of the galaxy, they now missed 25-50KLY past them, in there getting back to home,
      ( it’s like room say 4 x4 meters is now either 6by6 or 8 by 8 meters, everything that filled the original room is now in the Center of that room) there’s now a vast amount of new alien friends and foes that they can introduce, or they can keep to the old version and quietly ignore the new scale.

    • @shanegraham2500
      @shanegraham2500 5 лет назад

      We're going round and round here - the "edge" of the galaxy is the same as it's always been - we're just adding the dusting of stars past the "edge" - if the galaxy was a kiddie pool filled with sand, our sensors are strong enough to see the grains scattered in the yard.
      Technically, it makes the galaxy bigger, but the location of the various sand pails and shovels haven't changed, they're just further away from the farthest grain of sand in the yard.

  • @michaelcooney9368
    @michaelcooney9368 5 лет назад

    Just 2 issues with this ship.
    I really wanted it without nacelles, just the weird purple glowie on the abdomen, that looks neither warp or impulse. Dominion is only large civ more technologically advanced than the federation, and had a totally isolated tech/innovation history, so you could get away with a pretty radical design.
    The no view screen vr headsets were the real problem. Ship captains need only general awareness, helm control and weapons targeting is far more critical and if anything, the gunner and pilot would need the headsets more than the captain. Trek tech does have sensors ,but most critical maneuvers are done by mark 1 eyeball via view screen or window.
    A fighter pilot with full 360 visual cues can make a dozen instinctual decisions on throttle, orientation,weapons track, ect. A pilot on a jem hadar ship in same time frame can get one oral order on heading speed which thruster to manually fire he and gunnetr flying blind with only 2d MFD radar scopes and simple icons for ship and targets ,x y axis locations only. Maybe a simple vector wireframe to maneuver when flying over hazardous terrain.
