I am trying to plan a 3 day trip soon which should end up being a longer episode 😉 I am sick at the moment, so just taking it easy, but can’t wait to get back out for the next one!

    I just stumbled across your channel. I watched your east coast abandoned bridge video, and started skimming through your channel some more. Came across your video of the island just next to the San Rafael/Richmond bridge. I'm a bay area native, and have passed that island thousands of times commuting. So cool that there is a tunnel there. As a heads up, there are two tiny beaches right near the golden gate as well. Kirby cove. Just saying. Thanks for putting some new angles on places I've ALWAYS wondered about

    • @WesWherever
      @WesWherever  4 месяца назад +2

      Thanks for watching, Daniel. Love being able to contribute different perspectives on places a lot of us are familiar with! I also often looked down at that island from the bridge with awe. After getting into kayaking and camping, it seemed like a no-brainer for me to adventure out there… now have to say it’s my favorite spot of all! Someday when the wind, tide & swells are just right, I do plan on heading out to one of those beaches beside the GGB, so be on the lookout for that vid 😉😉 I hope to be back in be bay sometime in July

    • @jameshudkins2210
      @jameshudkins2210 3 месяца назад

      Eucalyptus trees were introduced to the Bay Area from Australia. They grew fast and many were planted in the Oakland Hills. It turned out to be the wrong kind for lumber. It warped and split when dried.
      By then millions grew above Berkeley and Oakland. In the early 1970's a rare massive freeze killed many of them. By summer the hills were not green like always before. We worried because they had oils and were flammable when dry. Big trimming efforts removed a lot of the danger.

    Hi Wes! I just came across a RUclipsr who makes crab snares and lives near San Fransisco. He has a video showing how he makes the snares himself! I thought you might be interested in making and trying the snares to catch crabs while out on your camping trips! "How to make a Crab Snare - Fisherman's Life" (9 yrs ago)

    • @WesWherever
      @WesWherever  5 месяцев назад +4

      Thanks Suzanne, I started watching him a few months back and have really enjoyed his content! I had not seen that particular video and didn’t know you could make your own crab snares. Could be a fun project and good way to save some money instead of buying them. Yes, I would LOVE to chow down on some fresh crab while camping. I am currently on a road trip and my next chance to catch crabs will actually end up being in the Atlantic Ocean! Currently in Pennsylvania and will be recording my first episode on the road tomorrow night. Hope to get it out by Thursday at the latest. If I recall, you had said you were from Ohio, which I should end up traveling through on my way back. Let me know if you have any video ideas for around your area! :)

      @@WesWherever That's so cool! I go to PA every year to camp near Oil Creek to look for culinary mushrooms! Where along the Atlantic will you be? Chincoteague Island VA is a place my family used to go to a lot. There's a National Seashore there called Assateague Island with wild ponies. I'll need to think about Ohio points of interest. Maybe let me know which highway you will using to cross Ohio. I'm not sure if it's too early in the season, but The Wilds is the largest animal sanctuary in North America. It's in central Ohio. Hocking Hills is a gorgeous State Park in southern Ohio. I will let you know if I think of any other cool spots. Travel safe!♥️

      @WesWherever  5 месяцев назад +2

      @suzannelegeza1292 Sounds fun, I’ve watched some videos of mushroom foraging and looks really cool if you know what you’re doing! I may start off as far south as Cape May in NJ, but then I’ll work my way up along the coast of New England. I have always wanted to check out the horses on Assateague though, so if I can find the time I certainly want to explore there 🐴 I’m guessing I’ll be taking I-90 along the northern tip of OH headed back from NE as I work my way back west. I will be sure to check out The Wilds & Hocking Hills if I’m further down south though… I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for the ideas, I’m really excited!! 🚐💨

    • @WesWherever
      @WesWherever  5 месяцев назад +1

      Truuuuee, I was actually just watching a Fisherman’s Life vid about using crab snares and thinking that would be cool to try! Do you think a crab snare would work or should I bring a pot? Just seems a little less bulky to bring a snare in my kayak

    • @guaporeturns9472
      @guaporeturns9472 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@WesWherever I think a pot would be better but you would have to put a buoy on it and paddle out a bit and drop it because of the shallow/gradual beach it would be difficult to pull in without dumping all the crabs(if using a crab ring as opposed to a crab trap)or getting hung up. It’s better to pull the pot or crab ring straight up. A lot of crap to pack on your kayak but would be super cool. A snare might be better , and much easier to carry. Try the incoming tide , Dungeness crabs seem to be more active then.

    This is probably the last remaining safe spot in SF City Limits. My hometown is a complete disaster. Tourist, please stay away for your own safety. Also, I would not eat any fish caught in the Bay. Full of all the stuff dumped there over the years.
