Have you seen 8 bit Christmas. If you haven’t. It’s amazing. Reminded me 100% of how far kids would go to get a NES when it first came out. Another great episode. Really tough decisions to make. Still thinking what I’d pick as my favorite consoles. Should create a series on your top 25 or 50 games for each Nintendo console.

The WiiU has so many parallels to one of my favorite consoles the Dreamcast. We’re seeing so many WiiU games get ported to the switch just like the Dreamcast saw ported to the PS2, GC, and Xbox. We saw Grandia 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Capcom vs SNK 2, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Phantasy Star Online, Crazy Taxi, the list goes on and on. I feel like, in the future, the WiiU won’t get the respect it deserves just like DC.

If only the game pad screen was VMU size it would have been hella cheaper and way more functional.

    My rankings:
#1) SNES (games still look great)
#2) Wii (great first party games)
#3) N64 (played a lot of local multiplayer games with friends, best memories)
    #4) NES
    #5) Wii U
#6) Switch (not enough original first party titles)
#7) GameCube (never owned this, still don't. never played it with friends either)

I’d put the SNES ahead of the NES if it was my personal list. When I replayed the classic consoles it just felt like Nintendo really crushed it in improving big titles like Mario, Zelda, and Castlevania.

This is a great list. My list would be:
    1. SNES
    2. Game Cube
    3. Switch
    4. N64
    5. Wii
    6. NES
    7. WiiU
But putting a list like this together and sticking to it is not as easy as it looks.

I would have never expected wrestling fans to put the N64 last. The best wrestling games of all time are still on the N64. Plus, all of the great games from Nintendo and RARE. And even today, there is no better party machine for local multiplayer than the N64. It is #1 for me.

You make alot of great points! We look at the consoles as a whole! First off we love all Nintendo consoles so one of them had to be last! Its just our opinion its N64! Cheers!

    1-SNES, 2-NES, 3-Wii, 4-Switch, 5-GameCube, 6-WiiU, 7-N64.
The Wii was the first Nintendo console to have a digital shop and virtual console. So you could play NES, SNES, N64, NeoGeo, plus the entire GameCube library because of backwards compatibility. So because of that I have to put Wii in the three spot.
The whole reason the Switch joycon controllers have motion sensing is due to the popularity of motion controls from the Wii.

Oh gonna catch some static for this but I don't own a Switch. It's the only Nintendo console or handheld I don't own. So my fav list is as follows:
SNES - Genesis fan loving it
NES - B4 my time, kudos
    Wii/Wii U - Tie, GOG
GameCube - Can play on Wii
N64 - AAA games but not enough
    Switch - I don't own
    GOG = Generations of games

    7. Wii U (Not only because of the sales but the system never had a real identity, it was a Wii with a gamepad and a slightly better e shop. Relatively short library, and the switch got most of its first party games which devalues the console to me
    6. GameCube (Never a huge fan of the GameCube, the first party games felt like some of the weakest Nintendo had and almost all the third party games were available on ps2 and Xbox which were better consoles to me. Also although the controller was neat for most games it sucked when it came to fighting games
    5. N64 (Didn’t age well, short library of games, but definitely the best local 4 multiplayer games available to me for any Nintendo consoles and it had a good amount of 3d playformers and racing games
    4. Nes (Classic, started it all for Nintendo and for a lot of third party companies. It’s ranking has a lot to do with new fatigue then anything else since I played the games so much plus 8 bit didn’t age as well as 16 bit and it’s only a two button controller
    3. Wii (Extremely innovated, great library of games, too much shovel ware and not too crazy about the Wii motes. It did introduce the virtual console which was very innovative for its time
    2. Switch (Best library of games for any Nintendo console but there are also a lot of indie garbage games as well and the joy cons suck. There are a bunch of controllers compatible with the switch and if not for Snes nostalgia and impact for me as a video gamer it will be number 1
    1. Snes (First party machine, third party machine, rpg machine, beat em up machine, fighting game machine, platform machine, the snes had it all. The controller is the architect for every modern controller today, the snes is the absolute best to me)

The thing that puts the Wii over many consoles is the fact that you can play all the great wii games AND GameCube games. The backwards comparability with GameCube is my favorite feature.

NES I luved it, it made me a gamer for life, but I remember struggling just to get it to work also. Blowing into cartridges and hoping I insert the game correctly (original NES model, not the 90's redesign that top loaded) just to get the game to work! SO as much as I luved it, its 6th for me.

As someone who's first console was an N64...
    1) Wii - great mix of traditional gaming and new experiences, plus GC backwards compatibility.
    2) SNES - for the 2D classics that still hold up really well.
    3) N64 - small library of groundbreaking games.
    4) GameCube - failed to stand out compared to the competition, I played much more on DC, Xbox and PS2.
    5) Wii U - enjoyed couch multiplayer but not much for the traditional gamer. Competition was far ahead of it IMO.
    6) NES - most of the games feel antiquated to me.
Haven't owned a Switch - put off by Joycon issues and high prices. Other consoles and PC have games with more appeal to me now, TBH I don't have time for it as well. Looks great for what it is though.

  • @IcePakOG
    @IcePakOG 2 года назад +1

Great video, guys. I don't necessarily agree with your ranking, but I love your reasons and how you laboured over the ranking.
Here's how I would rank them:
    1. Gamecube
    2. Wii U
    3. SNES
    4. N64
    5. Wii
    6. Switch
    7. NES
I know NES was a big system in the 80s, and I respect it for that, but it's not one I got into and it doesn't have much that I really want to play these days. SNES is far superior in my opinion, and I'm only really just getting into it! And, I've had limited experience with Switch, which is why I rank it so low, so it's not really fair to rank it here, but it's one I'm keen to get into when the price is right. You're right though: all Nintendo system are quality and have something to offer, so it's hard to rank them like this.

In my opinion and experience owning consoles since ‘86, Nintendo or otherwise, the NES had by far the most impact of any single console. It brought gaming back from the edge of the cliff, was 80% of the market and practically in ever kids household, plus it captured the imaginations of my entire generation. So many fantastic franchises started here (Zelda, Mario, Castlevania, Contra, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Ninja Gaiden, etc). There was so much innovation during those years with action/turn based RPGs, platform, puzzle, Shoot em ups, beat em ups, etc. growing and being perfected. You truly had to bring your A game and that still was not enough! Glitches, work arounds, and frustration aside, that ugly little box made you feel like you had a real sense of accomplishment when you were finally able beat the hell out of that next boss or even merely squeak by 😬 PS - They either need to remake or get a sequel to Jackal knocked out like yesterday!

    • @hepwo91222
      @hepwo91222 2 года назад

NES was the most influential console maybe ever, had some great games, but just getting the damn thing to work even in the 80's with new hardware was aggravating. That alone puts it at 6th for me.

    • @malecus7664
      @malecus7664 2 года назад

Ha! Will never forget the struggle. Now which is the best console today? That would be Switch since it literally can play all of the prior Gens games, so they will of course need to put all of them out there. Or at the very least, entire Nintendo game libraries on the Network. Also can’t overstate the flexibility and importance of the portability aspect. When I heard that I could play Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Whitcher 3 portably, I knew I had to get one about a year back.

    • @hepwo91222
      @hepwo91222 2 года назад

@@malecus7664 they were a bit inconsistent with how they talked about backwards compatibility, I mean Wii had the Virtual Console AND Gamecube. Wii U had the same VC its own online service and Wii BC. Gamecube had GB, GBC, GBA BC if you had the Game Boy Player add on. SNES had GB and GBC with an add on. For my money, the Wii was the best with BC, VC and Gamecube is soooooooo damn good.

  • @HyperTriggerEx
    @HyperTriggerEx 2 года назад +2

Well I never had an NES growing up in the 80's. I live in the UK and Sega was the daddy here, which is the exact opposite to how it was fot you guys in the US. So I have no nostalgia for the system. That being said I do now own a modded Famicom AV, and I have to say its a nice system with some stellar games and look great in RGB on a CRT.
I loved the SNES a kid, but had a preference to my Megadrive as its the system I bought first. Though again I have to give props to the system it is amazing and playing it today some of the games on it have NOT aged.
The N64 however just doesn't hold up well and has a super weak library in my opinion. You put it next to it rivals and there are a lot of areas where the N64 doesn't have too many games. I think the fact that its mainly 3d styled games has hurt it as the PS and SAT have tonnes of 2D games as well as 3D games and its the 2D games that still look and play really well.
The Gamecube I would have put behind the Switch personally. Its a great system that I think only people are now starting to appreciate. It has a great modding scene and playing the games in crisp 480p through HDMI shows how good the system is. Even better upscaled to 1080p.
The Wii I'd put last it just wasn't the console for me. I look at its rivals at the time and the Wii just didn't come close to th 360 and PS3. It was a mass market console and it showed in its games. Though I know it has a tonne of hidden gems.
The WiiU is the ONLY one on the list I dont own and I remember in the run up to its launch I didnt 't even know how it related to the Wii. I'm a gamer and I was confused. So I can only imagine how confused none gamers were. Though i respect it for what it is and what came after it, as a result of its failure.
The Switch is a phenominal system and one that took me a while to get into, but now it is a system very close to my heart. Though for me its a handheld that hooks up to a TV, rather than a console I can take out with me. The PS4 is still king in my eyes, but the Switch is a great system to compliment it.
A great video guys and I enjoyed seeing the passion you have for some of these consoles, bravo.

No Virtual Boy here huh? 🤣😋 nice video guys. Also a Nintenso guy. Great video ranking. For me no way n64 is last. Wii u near the bottom for me and N64 is 2nd or 3rd for me easy. Switch is second easy for me. Their most versatile console ever. Home console and portable and it's still not over.

GotG asking the hard questions! Looking back through all the Nintendo home consoles, each one has a certain charm or quirk that just makes you want to love it, which makes them so hard to rank. Speaking of garbage Joy-Cons, I would love to see a ranked list of Nintendo controllers!
Side note: Thanks to your flipping episodes myself and a buddy are going to give it a go this summer. Were not going to expect to make big bucks like you guys, but are intrigued by the hunt, and hopefully make a few extra bucks to fund our table top game obsession.

Wess, that NBA Jam shirt is 🔥 Enjoyed the video as always! I rank N64 3rd to NES, and SNES respectively, l because of how groundbreaking it was and because it has somr of the "Greatest Video Games of All Time" on it, but it's fun to debate it. Cheers!

I've owned all of these consoles at or within a year of the original launch and this is my list based on hours played, fun had and memorable experiences with them (playing with family, friends, nostalgia):
    1. Switch
    2. SNES
    3. NES
    4. Wii U
    5. N64
    6. Wii
    7. GameCube

    7) Wii U - Interchangeable with the Wii…good system, underrated, but still, it enough games that are legendary. Also, the Wii U Gamepad has terrible battery life and it’s annoying you can’t ply without it.
    6) Wii - I’m not a fan of motion control games. That about wraps that up lol.
    5) N64 - some amazing games, but not a deep library, and def hasn’t aged all that well. Lots of great memories from middle school years with this one.
    4) Nintendo - amazing console, legendary games, and lots of nostalgia, but most games haven’t aged all that well for me. Slightly enjoy it more than the N64…maybe just because of Super Mario Bros 3 lol.
    3) Switch - not typically a modern console lover, but the switch is incredible. I know it has of lots of ports and re-masters, but they have plenty of great games…plus I’d rather play Wii U games on the switch than the original hardware for the most part.
    2) Super Nintendo - the console of my early childhood…interchangeable with the GameCube for #1. Great controller, great games with awesome graphics and soundtracks, even after all this time…it has aged so much better than the original NES.
    1) GameCube - Between the controller, the game library, and the nostalgia, this is easily my favorite console…defined my high school and college years, my roommates and I didn’t care about the Wii when it came out because the GameCube was so much better. All opinion based of course, but this wasn’t a debate for me at all.
Goes to show that Nintendo is amazing, all of their consoles are worth playing, owning, and collecting for. Great vid guys!

    Love the discussion guys.
Here’s my two pennies worth (on only the Nintendo consoles I have owned)
    Nintendo 64
My pride and joy growing up. My first ever console. Replayed Majora’s Mask and Banjo Tooie on it last year and still love it. Nothing beat 4-player in the same room, sod online play haha.
    GameCube
Ninty tried a few different things this era and it didn’t quite jive with me. In hindsight, I underrated some of these games but at the time I was slightly disappointed. Missed my Rareware games!
    Wii
Sold like hot cakes but I grew to dislike it. Waggle controls grew tiring and I lost interest in Nintendo.
    Switch
Never knew the Wii U existed. Or I thought it was a Wii add-on. Either way, I skipped a generation. My missus persuaded me to get a switch in October 2020 and I’ve not looked back. Access to SNES games (Mario All-Stars, DKC trilogy have been abused) and some top notch new games that can also be played handheld. The Mecca in nostalgia and bringing me back to Nintendo.
    4: Wii
    3: GameCube
    2: Nintendo 64
    1: Switch

      Ps…
I find it hard to rate the older consoles. What criteria do we go with? Surely the Switch should beat the NES/SNES as the majority of those games are available on Switch too? The Wii should beat GameCube because you can play GameCube on Wii too?
      A cool idea for a video could be;
Top Nintendo systems but you can only own the top-20 best-selling games?
Would make for a good discussion…!

You guys got it right. Definitely a 1a - 1b ranking. Nes is tops for me because it has the type of hard action/platforming games I dig. I would say its third party titles outshine the SNES, too. All the bangers from Konami/Capcom/Sunsoft/Tecmo/Hudson/Technos/Irem/Jaleco/Hal/Rare, plus a ton of small developers that did amazing things on the hardware!

1.nes 2.Snes 3.gamecube 4. Switch 5. Wii 6.N64 7 WII-U. GameCube Nintendo library has the best. Met prime All the party games sunshine Luigi 007 games. I almost would put the Snes at three and the gamecube at two. The Snes games are scary costing vs the gamecube. Lucky I was looking for games for the gamecube before they shot up. I really don’t like the wii-u. The look the glossy finger prints for days. 8-32 gb of space. The screen controller let me down holding a brick block in your hand. That’s a thick ass beer 🍺

    Here's my ranking
    1. N64
Ive only had an N64 for like a year, but in that time, the few games ive played (mostly banjo kazooie) I just love this console! The transition from 2D to 3D is such an interesting time in gaming history.
    2.SNES
Best 2D pixel art games, and I love 2D pixel art games!
    3.Switch
I know its the current console, but I cant rank it any lower, because im having a good time with it right now!
    4.Wii
It was my first console, so I definitely love it, its just the switch seems to offer better sequels to what I loved from this console as a kid, so its down here, but just barely!
    5.Gamecube
I never owned a gamecube, but the wii is backwards compatible. Which I didnt know as a kid. Wish I did because there are some great titles here as well, just not a library ive explored yet so its down here.
    6.NES
The NES is the one nintendo console ive gotta be honest, im not an enormous fan of. Its just a tad *too* old for me. IDK. Maybe I just havnt played the right NES games yet, but its just not up there for me. Dont get me wrong, I appreciate what it did for history, but asside from lightgun games, and ROB the robot (which is a peripheral I doubt ill ever obtain), I just dont really care for it.
    7.WiiU
I never even thought of buying a wiiU and any good game on the wiiU is on the switch. It just seems like a dud in nintendo's lineup now.

  • @KayFabeMedia

I think the SNES edges out the NES just because nearly every game I love on the NES (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Mega Man, Contra (thought I agree about the top down stages, barf)) have better sequels on the SNES. NES has more games, and their are a few games than never went beyond the NES that are great and worth a look, but the SNES sequels to NES classics were next level games.

Hey Wes what's a rough schwag? Is that like SWAG (Simple Wild Ass Guess) but for gamers? Loved both your opinions but I agree with Robert about 64 being hard to rank because it was the 1st console that I owned too and has a lot of nostalgic value. But I think the Wii was probably the best because it also was backward compatible with GameCube and Wii Sports with motion controls was such a game changer at the time. Famicom and NES would be my 2nd choice. Anyway great video guys. Nintendo isn't as fancy schmancy as Playstation or XBOX but it appeals to kids and parents and that's the stellar hook and why it still dominates the industry.

IMO, I feel your reason for putting the N64 on the bottom, is the same reason the NES should not have been put on top. More nostalgic, than fun. Between the NES and the SNES, the SNES should have gone on top. SNES, Switch, Gamecube, N64, NES, WiiU, Wii for me. Wii was actually more of a GC player for me. lol

    • @HiNRGboy
      @HiNRGboy 2 года назад

The NES more nostalgic than fun??? dude the NES was all about fun lol, graphics were 8 bit, so developers HAD to find inventive ways to make gameplay fun as hell to sell the games. Same formula goes with SNES, just with better graphics. A lot of 3D games are sloppy, some don't even look good and have horendous gameplay lol. Yeah I'm talking about the N64 😂🤣

not sure why the cube did so well tbh.
didnt own 1 so that's maybe why.
lots of significant moments of technological progression with these consoles. super made the nes better as mentioned. 64 ramped up the gears with 4 player games. wii brought motion and online when wii u added to that. switch capitalising on all these factors. then there's the cube?
    what did that bring exactly?

Yeah, I grew up with the NES (got one in 1988) and it popped my cherry but… I don’t think it holds up like the SNES. Also, if this was my list, I would only factor in what games were originally released for that console. So that means all those Wii U ports to the Switch don’t count and virtual console on the Wii isn’t a factor. So, with that, my list would be:
    1: SNES
    2: Gamecube
    3. NES
    4: Wii
    5: Switch
    6: Wii U
    7: N64

I honestly just don't play my Gamecube games much if at all anymore. My most played games on GC: Smash Melee (done better in the sequels), Wind Waker (ported perfectly to WiiU), Metroid Primes (I prefer the 2-D Metroids and even the Primes I prefer the trilogy on Wii). I just don't go back to it much if at all. I personally move it down to in between the WiiU and the Wii. Everything else is pretty much spot on though. N64 was great in its time and has a few games that will always have a place in my heart. But it just hasn't aged well. So for me....
    1. NES/SNES (I absolutely can not choose)
    3. Switch
    4. WiiU
    5. Game Cube
    6. Wii
    7. N64
