Your channel just popped up on my feed and I wish I had found you a year or two ago. Your knowledge and clear teaching methods would have saved me quite a bit of stone.😅

I recently started making my own bows and now I want to make my own arrows with my own homemade arrowheads. I recently went to the glass buttes and got about 200 lbs of obsidian. This video was very helpful to get me started 👍

I’m glad this was helpful! Sounds like you have obsidian to last you a long time.

@@knaptime ya I worked on a couple pieces last night and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. You guys on RUclips who are experienced make it look so easy. Hopefully by this next year I can take down a deer with my homemade bows and arrows

Keep at it. It takes some time, and patience. Don’t be discouraged when you break a piece.

@@jonahlevi3178 I went to the Glass Buttes in eastern Oregon. You can go there all year long. I think you can collect 200 lbs of obsidian per person. You can get a few different kinds of obsidian out there too

Good stuff. Glass Buttes is just such a pretty place. I know exactly the hill that came off. Such a beautiful material!

Like the new billet. I would also like to see a comparison between those flakes.

That would be interesting for sure. I'll have to dive deeper into the literature first.

Great video, down with knee replacement, so I thought I would try some knapping. It is hard to metal detect with a full knee replacement. Thanks for the video. Terry

I feel ya, bud. I'm sitting here unable to use my left hand following an accident in my shop. Someone had used my xacto knife and put it back in it's holder with the protective cap off. When I blindly reached into the tool box drawer, the little scalpel blade went between the third knuckle at the base of my left index finger and hand. The combined force of my grasp and sharpness of the little blade was enough to separate the finger from the hand at a skeletal level. Basically, the skin was the only connection holding the finger on. So, I'm sitting here with what looks like a smoked sausage for a left index finger, watching knapping videos.

      Damn that sounds painful.
I got glass jammed a good ways into the middle knuckle of my index finger and messed it up for a year. It was hard to close and if I forced it closed I had to pop it back open with some help.
Pro tip: don’t squeeze lightbulbs 😂
