015 Flintknapping a Mexica (Aztec) Style Tecpatl Knife from a Mahogany Obsidian Nodule

  • Mexica is the name used by the Aztec people, amongst other related groups, to reference themselves. In this video, I knap my own version of a Tecpatl (flint or obsidian knife in the Nahuatl language) using direct percussion on a mahogany obsidian nodule.

    Always a pleasure watching you work a piece down. The Obsidians seem to get less than their deserved credit for being a truly beautiful rock.
