  • Another video update from our 2024 boating season here on the south coast of British Columbia. This time, we will travel from an anchorage in the Broughton Archipelago Marine Park across Blackfish Sound and over to Port McNeill on Vancouver Island.
    We overnighted at the North Island Marina (northislandmar...), within walking distance of a grocery store, laundromat, pharmacy, liquor store, auto/marine, outdoor stores, etc. We could also fully charge all our batteries and devices and fill the water tanks and jugs. Great stopover!
    The video shows the sights and sounds along the way and a view of the marina docks. Highlights included seeing humpback whales and Dall's porpoises and catching a pair of coho salmon for dinner! We can continue exploring the Broughtons for the next 3 weeks or so. Stay tuned

      Not too bad since it is located on Vancouver Island right off the main highway that links it top to bottom. There is a few other towns along the way.

    That was a cool video. I was going to ask you if you guys fished, but you answered that question. You guys are living the good life. We have a travel trailer, but next week we pick up our new Class B van in Arizona. Anyway, as usual i’m enjoying your journey, thanks Ray

    Another enjoyable video! What a wonderful place to go boating. I even saw a boat that I did some upgrades on. M/Y TREASURED MOMENTS is registered in Alaska but winters in Anacortes where I do marine electrical work. Fun to spot a boat that I know. Thanks for sharing!

    Great video. Makes me miss my old boat. you were lucky to have the wind in your favor. A little single screw Lehmann can be difficult with the wind working against you. Bow-thruster becomes essential. Have you been tracking your fuel burn rate? don't even want to compare it to the twin 454 (350 hp ea) gassers. I use to fish Buoy 10 (Columbia Bar) a lot for salmon. Nothing like feeding guests on the boat a fresh salmon lunch while your still fishing.

      Thanks. Approx, 80 gallons has given us about 50 hours runtime. So we are right about 1.6 gallons per hour which is typical for our boat. They are a very economical trawler to run. Trade off is a slow pace at about 6-7 knots. :)

      @@LoveYourRV Thats extremely good. We ran ~100gal a day fishing. We were burning 8.5 -10 gph per engine @3000-3200 rpm. Once out we'd just troll with one engine ~1000-1200 rpm depending on tide & current and burn rate dropped.

    Thank you very much. I have not seen this area in 25 years, I worked in alert bay, had horses on sointula. Played in a band in Port McNeil. Lol it was nice to see that area again. Smooth boating to both of you.👍

    Another thoroughly enchanting video. What an interesting place to tour around in a boat, with all the passageways and currents (and whirlpools !). Would it be fair to say that you save money in the winter months down here in the desert and then spend it all (and then some) on the boat? Seems like it would go something like that.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Месяц назад +1

      We find they are pretty even cost wise not including major repairs to the boat, RV, truck etc. But month to month expenses. Powering the boat with diesel isn't cheap but neither is fueling the truck to drag the 10,000 lb trailer many thousands of miles south and back. Food used to be cheap in the USA but not so much anymore especially considering the weak CA dollar exchange rate. Also for the 6 month USA trip travel medical insurance runs us about $2000 CA dollars and the USA to Canada ferry is over 300 CA dollars each way.

    Wow that current was wild looking. I haven't been on too many boats so I thought it was spooky - and then you mentioned Davy Jones locker so maybe you thought so too - do you know what causes that? It looked like a whirlpool! I enjoyed watching the eagles fishing.

      When the tides change moving water in and out the currents swirl around all the islands and up and down all the inlets so it sets up times when two ocean currents are moving in different directions. You can get back eddies and whirlpools. Sometimes the water near the surface is moving in a different direction than deeper water even.
