We lived on a hill when we had bad storms over several days in southern IL many years ago. Ice built up to four inches outside. We were stuck up there for a few weeks. Firefighters were taping boards with nails driven into them on their boots to rescue people in the ravines who were foolish enough to be walking around.. I still do not know how we avoided losing power because it was a heavily wooded area.
I've only seen 1" of ice once. It was catastrophically disruptive. We had no power for a week, with some neighborhoods out for three weeks. We couldn't leave our street, either, because of downed trees. The severe effects were a result of a few strong hurricanes/TSs coming through the previous fall. Damaged trees just noped out after getting hit with high winds and a huge load of ice.

Please be nice to your mail carrier, it's not easy in bad weather.
Agreed!! Remember to shovel (or snowblow) the area surrounding your mailbox, if applicable. They appreciate it!
I’m a fedex worker, but they aren’t required to drive in these conditions. Usps is mandatory I’m pretty sure. So if your expecting FedEx deliveries from ground then you probably won’t get them. I’m not sure about express
I’m a mailman and if yours goes to work during this so people can get spectrum ads you have a stupid mailman. The post office isn’t gonna care when you break your back at work. I called off the last snowstorm and my buddy didn’t and did exactly that and management tried blaming him. It’s not worth it anymore. We rarely deliver medication people need anymore and almost no mail that they need, just packages for other companies. We don’t have 4x vehicles and if you wreck you’ll be blamed.
Express is the parent company of ground and they always delivered no matter what when i worked for them. Post office as well when i worked for them always delivered no matter the weather.
@rixyz7013 I work for express and I might be sick tomorrow they always preach safety yet our vehicles at my station are pathetic in any weather. Rather be safe then sorry
Good Morning everyone! Max, get plenty of power naps and Thanks for your dedication and professionalism.

I feel for you. I’m glad the central Ohio area isnt getting the ice. It seems like that all we get 99% of the time since 1990.
Hope you stay safe and heat stays on.
We actually had school during two ice storms in the early 90’s, and two weeks after the last one, we’re got two inches of snow and the called school for two days.

Watching from in my house in North Central Kansas, under the blizzard warning- it’s brutal. The wind and snow have been blowing all night and I don’t know how anyone could be out in this.
Live south of Kansas City. It's brutal. Around a quarter inch of ice fell over night and into this morning, and now it's alternating between snow and ice. And the wind is picking up.

We were 'maybe 8' inches yesterday; overnight we went to "10-12" here in Fauquier County Virginia. This is getting really serious for us! With nearly a foot of snow, I'm praying people have made their preparations, and are ready to hunker down at home tonight!
Grafton WV here, no snow since late Friday. We are prepared for this storm, it’s gonna get ugly up here in a few hours. Suns out right now for a bit
Snowplows can't do 12 inches..front end loaders needed
@@mrbob19561 Being on the very edge of Northern Virginia; people are just ignorant! They will expect every road to be 'cleared' by Tuesday at 9 am; if not, they will sit around and fuss like babies! Given that we have northern transplants living here, THEY forget the 'southern' folks don't really know how to drive in this stuff; place these 2 groups on the road together and it's a recipe for 'I'm staying the heck home!' time for me. lol I mean...you've all seen the crazy traffic jams we have around these parts even with snow flurries...12 inches of snow? Congrats on achieving #2 Trending on all of RUclips! Got a lightning strike here in KC MO at 6:29am this morning, with very close but muffled thunder. I'm assuming it was muffled due to the heavy snow. Blowing snow like mad right now, power's holding out! Thanks for the update, staying tuned for the latest.
I didn’t hear the thunder, but definitely awoke to a blizzard here in Lees Summit. Thankful most of my neighborhood’s electric lines are underground. Hoping the lines that carry electricity to my area aren’t affected. Praying everyone is safe and we don’t see any weather related deaths

Feel bad for that one spot in Missouri with the 1 inch ice forecast
We lived on a hill when we had bad storms over several days in southern IL many years ago. Ice built up to four inches outside. We were stuck up there for a few weeks. Firefighters were taping boards with nails driven into them on their boots to rescue people in the ravines who were foolish enough to be walking around.. I still do not know how we avoided losing power because it was a heavily wooded area.
No joke, that’s wild
I've only seen 1" of ice once. It was catastrophically disruptive. We had no power for a week, with some neighborhoods out for three weeks. We couldn't leave our street, either, because of downed trees.
The severe effects were a result of a few strong hurricanes/TSs coming through the previous fall. Damaged trees just noped out after getting hit with high winds and a huge load of ice.
That's me. This is crazy, it sounds like glass is falling from the sky.
@ it’s a very interesting sound, I hope you are safe during this messy storm.
St Louis area here. Nothing but freezing rain and sleet since about 9p Sat night. Wouldn't think of trying to drive. 1/2" easy so far...
I’m in Edwardsville and we only have a dusting of snow.
Hilarious how our local weather is saying “oh just 1-3”…when clearly we are getting 8-12”! Why are they so useless?! Keep up the good forecasting.
After it is over, you will know was right...
Because it's a prediction.... only reality will tell you who's right....

Imo everyone should have what my son calls the "Apocalypse corner."
For us it's a shelf in the garage with power outage supplies, radios, our water, and camping gear.
The food prep is seperate: dry eggs, fruits and veggies, powdered milk, TVP, beans, grains, soup packets, and a few canned items.
I also have handcrafty/woodcraft stuff in the Apocalypse Corner like canvas, leather, cord, and firestarters but that's because we used to live really far from civilization. :)
