I don't get how people do this. I have a music degree and have arranged shows but it is a combination of using scores for source reference, listening to others work and experimenting on a piano. I wish my ears were good enough to transcribe a complete brass book.
How many times have you tried? I thought I couldn't transcribe for shit but I started doing simple melodies and arrangements anyway....I still suck but I really surprised myself with how quickly I was able to put parts together. You might surprise yourself too. :-)
As a brass player I can confirm it can be literal hell sometimes playing 16th notes at a fast tempo I forgot to mention I am only a freshmen in high school. I don’t have experience with double or triple touguing yet. Which is why I find them difficult
watching this in comparison to other corps' shows, i have no idea how people say BD's music is "easy"! BD has one fantastic hornline and those screamers are WAY up there, and several times in the show. i don't think I'll ever get over this show.
I met a Blue Devils trumpet who played Metamorph and is Mikey’s roommate and he said when he saw the music Javier and Mikey were supposed to play he thought they would quit on the spot. I was somehow in an Xbox party with 5 other trumpet players and we had some fun hearing about the behind the scenes of the show
60 thousand views! RUclips is broken I have *Definitely* watched this video more times than that... I'm sorry Dillon, but you got cheated off of a couple billion views by youtube
Dude I can't even comprehend how you could do this by ear! It took me forever just to do the flight of the bumblebee and the trumpet feature! What are you working on next? You're an inspiration for me to start my channel, and I thank you for that. Keep up the great work man!
Matt's Music that is awesome to hear man! Currently I’m finishing up crown 2012 transcription wise but mainly focusing on arranging my own things lately.
Nice! My band director is letting me write a stand tune of dies irae for my band, so I'm probably gonna upload that tomorrow, and it would mean a lot of if you checked it out! cant wait for crown 2012!
I'm pretty sure 6:40-7:20 is only there as like a little dance break or something, because it's just so effing peppy, and I effing love it. Dude, how you were able to transpose this BY EAR, is astounding. I look up to you man, and you just an inspiration for me to want to pursue my career in music.
I'm serious tho. This show brings me so much joy and it is just so amazing and I've always wanted to learn this piece. And because you did this I was able to and I really appreciate. You are awsome
Wow! This is truly amazing! I one day want to have as amazing hearing as you! I’m just s rookie 7th grader that plays the piccolo but this makes me so exited for my future marching band experiences!!!!
Emma Leblanc as a flute you should be excited! At a high school level the music isn’t going to be near this challenging and depending on where you go to high school the marching band might not be the state champion either. What matters most is the experiences you have with people, people are going to tell you flutes don’t belong in the band but don’t listen they do! All season we have been getting compliments from judges about how great the flute section sounds and we only have 4 people. I’m so excited you want to do marching band keep on with your aspirations and have fun!!!
@ActionResource On average, there are 24 trumpets in a Drum Corp. That varies dependent on those who leaves, or cannot attend the corps. But in most case of scenarios, there is 24. 16 Mellophones granted the trumpet sound to be more heard, hence why there was 40 trumpets.
the 64th note was just to control when the rip starts. In musescore if you put a quarter note ripped into a quarter note it will take a full beat to do the rip. but if you tie a shorter note to it the rip will sound more accurate. and also the 64th note is tied anyway so it doesnt matter
The highest note in this piece was a double A I believe, which is very difficult. I play trumpet and I can only reach a double G on my good days. It takes a lot of time and practice to unlock the upper register for a brass player. And yes, you did in fact see a 64th note, in this case, that 64th note acts kind of as a grace note :)
What instrument has the really long jazzy solo? The one that occupies the first bass clef spot in the score. It's absolutely beautiful but I can't tell if it's a baritone, trombone, or bass trombone.
Dude this is awesome. I could write the snare part for you if you wanted. I’ve translated the beginning with up to about the solos on my down time but it’s pretty easy after that and there’s a lot of parts, especially in the beginning, where you need some drums
I've not done anything huge, but transcribing anything can be hard because of player style. Especially if the notes are short anyways. For example say a trumpet soloist subconsciously put a Tenuto on a note, well a transcriber doesn't know that, which means you might think the note was actually written some odd length. When it gets down to 32nd notes and beyond its extremely hard to tell if the music was written some way, or if the player is just playing it some way
This is amazing. Just outstanding man. Keep it up. But i feel like at the trumpet feature part or more specifically at 6:13 i think there is a trombone part that is some what involved. I heared it in one of the tuba cams for this. Ill try to find the vid so I can show you but anyways this is amazing man. Keep up the good work
ben1446 jamin thanks for the help man! I knew about that and I didn’t really feel like putting it in cus I felt like it would ruin the soli a lil but eh. Thanks a ton tho for caring that much, means a lot!!
I can’t fathom how they hit some of those high notes and are able to remember all that. I mean I don’t have a lot of experience playing the trumpet so at this point this seems impossible.

It’s a reference to Miles’ (the center tenor player I believe) headcam.

mrfld I don’t get it either
You know it's just about getting through the tedious work man actual writing the brass book is half the work the mind part is another half
How many times have you tried? I thought I couldn't transcribe for shit but I started doing simple melodies and arrangements anyway....I still suck but I really surprised myself with how quickly I was able to put parts together. You might surprise yourself too. :-)
The sound of the trombone this program has is hilarious
After a while with using the program you learn to get used to it
Musescore ya, lots of people (like me) download soundfonts to change the sounds
@@Iplayquad wait how... Wish i knew this ima look this up now.
I've changed it to the baritone midi then just renamed the part to be trombone.
Musescore trombone is like that, lol. Whenever I hear a music piece, I can easily tell if it's musescore or an actual ensemble playing.
"GSUS this chord is crazy" that's awesome
Those last three letters in gsus man....
6:38 - 7:20 is a literal eargasm
for my speaker only Everytime I watch the show I come in my pants when that plays
for my speaker only Literally it’s just the entire ballad for me
Honestly it’s great
More like from 0:00 to 8:14
4:09 and beyond makes me so happy im in tears
HHHH HONESTLY ME TOO
cheque Same. My favorite part in the entire show because it's soooooo nice to listen to.
ITS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE ENTIRE SHOW
I have no idea what the marking at about 4:14 means and I wanna learn this part of the solo can someone help
Akki super late but it means to lip down and back up
I’m a snare player and I don’t understand how brass instruments can play 16th notes that fast
As a brass player I can confirm it can be literal hell sometimes playing 16th notes at a fast tempo
I forgot to mention I am only a freshmen in high school. I don’t have experience with double or triple touguing yet. Which is why I find them difficult
Double tonguing or triple tonguing helps a lot

Valve oil
A tone of valve oil
Its not the instruments. It’s the people playing them.

*YOU ENCOUNTERED A POKEMON*
@ActionResource I mean if you have played for a while this can be done because it is just chromatic at a high tempo so take that as you will
Yikes.

Trombones. And u have the nut to call it drum corps

I need percussion! ❤️
Ian Parmley I need time lol
Dillon Reese still need percussion lmao
And I’m still waiting 😂
Yeah same
My dude, it’s a brass sheet.
THE BALLAD ALWAYS MAKES MY ENTIRE BODY EXPLODE. WOW. Bravo, bravo.
There's that one melody from the trumpet and I heckin love it😆
Awesome! One little thing - I think that super duper high note in the lead trumpet at 5:54 is a high A, not a high B. See Javier's head cam.
Luke Riddle dang I missed that. Nice ear man!
Was supposed to be a Bb. In case he didn't quite have it that day, an A also fit into the chord. But he always aimed for a Bb.
Eric Matthews Thanks for the insight. Also, you marched Regiment right? SUTA.
For sure
Luke Riddle it’s one of those chords where either note works
Dude this awesome! Loved this show too and i love playing along with the trumpet solos in the ballad! Please keep up the good work!

5:45 will always make me think of a Pokemon song. I don’t know which, but it just does. And amazing work!
love this show, insane how people can do this. This also sounds like the final boss music for an old video game lmao

“GSUS THIS CHORD IS CRAZY” that single line of text summed up the entire closer of this show
I like this. I am a Finale user, never believed Music score could be used this way.
This is leagues better than the full show sheet vid because this has way more effort and precision in it-
As a weablue, good job.
That soloist whole note gave me chills at 3:58
I’ve watched this a million times and only recently learned how to play 4:06 - 5:30 on my trumpet
Such a flex to put flight of the bumblebee in your marching show

I'm so happy they actually took advantage of an interstellar song!
Please do SCV!! 🙏
Rian Marshall I second this
I love it!! But why didn't you do the solos in the very beginning??
Patrick Foit the solos at the beginning would sound very awkward without the pit and battery so I just left them out
I love you so much you came through! ❤️❤️
THATS BEAUTIFUL
7:57 Concord, Blue Devils.
There is supposed to be an upper F in the horn at 1:59 :)
I love the trombone at 6:39 so much!

3:37 to 4:00 I’ve been looking for that freaking solo, I knew it would be hard ending on that triple E slur and all but Jesus Christ. That is sexy
Ngl the ending sound like a trailer for an absolute banger of a game

Holy trumpet double a what the 64th note
Even tho this is digital idec it sounds so good

At 4:43 how is there a F flat in the second solo trumpet part? im so confused
H3CTIK_SH4RK an F flat is enharmonic E natural. In that case, it doesn’t matter what actual note is put down.
that makes it an E
well it does matter. enharmonics are used to give the reader a sense of what chord is being played.
Rishi Puri yes that is true but I am transcribing a solo so I didn’t necessarily focus on it that much. Sorry
Also it’s not a second trumpet part there’s limited space so the other soloist was put on the second line because no ones using as you can see
1:08 ....well my brain hurts now
Why does the beginning remind me of Pokemon Ruby?
6:22 JESUS
