- All credit goes to the amazing staff members over at the Bluecoats for creating such a kickass show this year.
This is made 100% by ear and 100% by me. It is still early season so the show will get changed drastically in the coming weeks. Let me know what you think in the comments. To follow the progression of the score throughout the season with the inclusion of pit/battery, go to

I love the face the front of the field parts, so true. As someone who isn't a huge bluecoats fan, this ballad is incredible and needs to be louder and heard
I laughed so hard when I saw the “FACE THE FRONT OF THE DAMN FIELD PLEASE” at the top of the screen during the ballad. It’s so true. Whoever thought amplifying the entire hornline from the other side of the field was trippin
Still laughing at the 15/8 time signature
the one in the original song is 15/16 so
Holly Peters anyone in their right mind would write it as 4/4 and then 7/8 lol
@@nickadkins5679 no.. its not that uncommon to write in odd times.. thats kinda yk.. why they exsist.. 😐
@@Iplayquad 7/8 is odd time 🤨 it just makes it more simple to read instead of counting 15
That comment was 9 months ago Idek what I meant bruh 😂 but ya 4/4 then 7/8 would make more sense
" LEGEND" "Another LEGEND"
BIOhazard_inc it's ben wkwk
Damn, this is a really hard show, way harder than Downside Up. Of course the Bluecoats would be the ones to have 2nd Mellos playing consistent high Bb's in the ballad and 1st Mellos going up to high D's. Not to mention the insane trumpet parts and runs
Its called DCI for reason...
lordtacoz I concur only slightly. Downside Up musically was much more difficult. Upon hearing this I thought the same thing but if you critically analyze this compared to DSU, one realizes the mello runs are more difficult, the trumpets have harder features and solos, and the music is more cohesive and flows better. Drill wise however this show demolishes DSU. That's just my opinion as a Bloo fan. On a side note: frankly, in all honesty, the trumpet parts arent all that difficult, they have many artifical rhythmic groupings and runs, but anyone can play those with enough patience and diligence.
Only to get 5th place at finals. RIP Bluecoats.
Rene Cortez still was a great show tho
"This will get changed into something much more satisfying"... or so we all thought... LOL
idk man it was pretty satisfying to hear their "signature" chord while they all lined up in front of the pit
i1ike0ranges But correct me if I’m wrong...it didn’t change THAT much did it?
i1ike0ranges i agree it was pretty satisfying
i cried at the slow section around 5 minutes. so beautiful, or am i just a horn nerd
djuna demer it’s beautiful and I hope you are a horn nerd.
I cried too, especially bc I play Baritone and that solo was perfect
I miss band! Ima try to buy me a bass clarinet bro I need to play again!
Goodness that was an amazing job. Spot on.
This makes me tear up so bad. Amazing.
The baritones used to play the feature with the contras but it got cut because the contras were too perfect
Which feature?
Damn straight
face the front of the field god dammit. hahaha love the comments.
RT
Lol exactly what I was thinking. I really have no clue why anyone thought that was a good show decision to face back field like that during a power moment.
6:39 "finally someone hits the A" OMG
I WISH THEY WOULD FACE THE FRONT OF THE FIELD IN THAT FUCKING PART TOO
hey, they finally turn around at some point in the ballad, near the end of it.
I'm most likely going to try to play some of that first mellophone now, it's gorgeous
I'M GOING TO CRY. THANK YOU
AHHHH Just the fickin score makes me legit tear up.... I think you can imagine what the actual shows makes me do.... GAAAH I LOVE IT SO MUCH
4:27 till the end of that slow part is just breathtaking
Every time I listen to it, I love it even more. GO BLOOOO!! (and your comments are the best lolll)
Hehehe the little comments are hilarious
Keep up the great work Dillon
Haha yeah I had to voice my opinion throughout lol. And thanks!
best show ever this will always be my my number one favorite dci show then scv 18 because like come on
a transcription this earlyʕ•ᴥ•ʔ
That's just simply amazing i love the bbq luecoats i cant wait to tryout in the next 2 years!!!
I friggin love the bluecoats their show tells a story with nothing to tell it with
at measure 72 around 3:00 does't it sound like something from pokemon?
you are a god
That opening hit. So good.
Amazing!
That first big hit is just absolutely nut tier
This channel is too perfect
Lol... love the it.. especially the comments
Thank you!
Cant wait for when the percussion is added in, gonna sound 10000x better in my opinion
beautiful
caraca que top essa música perfeita não tem o que fala
All by ear? Pretty good
That ballad is incredible even when it's played by the electronic hornline
I'm not a huuuuge bluecoats fan (SCV and Blue Stars are my favs) but good god is this show amazing.
Protip: Try replacing the tubas w/French Horns in the sound mixer. That's what I do and it adds a whole new layer of depth imo.
Dang bru, love the baritone solos
great job man
Hello the friend would not have the 2012 show? and how could i buy it?
What software is this and how do you make the up and down effects on the trumpet at measure 210?
This is musescore (free). And I’m using the bend tool within the program.
@@dillonreese3955 ok thanks, I’m glad it’s musescore not finale lol
Great work!!! What's sound sample that you using?
1:48 to 2:00 is the coolest part of the show in my opinion. I love that part so much 👍🙌
2:45 to 3:45 is another amazing section
mann this section made me like dci
God bless your soul
2:11 THIS GOES SO HARD
that sounds awesome
What's the part below the tubas? Is it a bass trombone?
You got it!
Put this into musescore 4 now
Already did. It’s not as good as you think lol. Lots of glitches on this one. I may upload the ballad
@@dillonreese3955 aww man that’s too bad
How tf did you write this by ear
Peter Vannini given about 50 years i could to, and this is coming from someone with perfect pitch, and also an exceptional highschool musician, not even trying to boast lol. this guy either knows someone with the scores, knows some of the players in bluecoats, or is extremly amazing and has way too much time on his hands
MrPenguinsCanada lol I am just going into my senior year in high school and have a part time job this summer. It's honestly just not that hard to transcribe. I also do not have perfect pitch sadly or these would be fairly easier to do. Just takes time and effort.
Dillon Reese lol im also going into senior year and have a part time job lol
Dillon Reese Impressive, better than I could have done in high school. Or now. Id be interested to see what you could do writing your own arrangements of (insert awesome music here). Transcribing arrangements is obviously great practice. Minus five points to me if your channel already has this and I just havent noticed. My alma maters band director is Jay Bocook, and I marched Crown when he was arranging for them. Let me know if you'd be interested in some form of an intro (or you could just ping him yourself should you like).
MrPenguinsCanada dude thats amazing. I cant believe that you could do this by ear in high school. It sounds great too!
6:42 every time i hear this rythm I cant stop saying "oh, she thicc, she thick as fuck"
Nice! How do you do trumpet bends. All of mine aren’t heard in playback and either only bend up or only bend down.
Are you using the bend tool? If so, you should be able to adjust the pitches with a chart. It’s been awhile but start with that.
@@dillonreese3955 I do use the bend tool but I can only use the bend tool on a note once and it’s not heard :(
@@austinisntgood there’s probably a tutorial or forum post somewhere on RUclips or musescore.com
2:44 Is there a version of this keyed in Eb so that I can play this (I'm baritone sax)
Wow, I didn't know some of those symbols were on musescore
How did you notate the lip trills in the trumpets?
Can anyone tell me what instrument is played at 00:40? It sounds really weird.
Matthew Matousek sorry it wasn't notated in the RUclips video but on the website, it is set up like this and its trumpets first 3 lines and then mellos next two, then 3 Bari/euphs then tuba then bass trombone at the end.
Dillon Reese ok thank you so much!
Dillon lmao watching a bluecoats run through and I saw your name in the related vids
What samples are you using? This sounds good.
During the end of the solos in the closer there is some parts in all areas
could you do Cavaliers show from this year?
6:38 hate to break it to ya mate, but the guy who hits the A is actually playing piccolo trumpet, which is an octave above regular trumpet pitch.
Cheesus Christ which is what I notated. Just in the 1st trumpet staff.
You know instead of 15/8 it's probably 4/4, 7/8 right?
And you forgot the subito crescendo at 2:38! C'mon, man, that's the best part.
Jackson I think you forgot that musescore is not advanced enough to have crescendos work on held notes but yeah I would've but I couldn't. Also, I transcribed some of zomby woof before I even heard the show and that part is a phrase of 15/8 which is obviously going to be conducted in the way you mentioned but I just figured people would realize that.
Dillon Reese Oh yeah..I use Musescore myself, I should’ve remembered that. 😅 Oh well, it has its limitations.
6:02 trombone solo
How did you get musescore to do the glissandos?
For the type of glissando around 1:57, you just use the glissando from the "arpeggios & glissandos" tab. You can control the speed of the glissando by writing out the held note as a series of tied notes, as MuseScore starts the glissando on the last written note. For the trombone glissando around 6:12, you need to use the bend in the "articulations & ornaments" tab (it looks like an upwards swooping arrow with "full" written over it). After selecting the bend and placing it on the note, right-click the bend and select "bend properties." That will allow you to mess around with how much you want the pitch to bend and how fast it happens.
BEtrumpet oh wow thank you so much for this!
How do you get such a good sound quality out of muse score? Is it a different soundfont or something?
Matt Cornwall it’s a new soundfont in the 2.0+ updates
Flawless to me!! But why didn’t u use treble clef for the ballad instead of using those high ledger lines
Btw 2016 transcription was the best I’ve ever heard
The solo is played on euphonium, so that's how the music actually looks
There was one part where you opted to have a quarter tied to a sixteenth tied to two thirty-second notes. Bro that's just a dotted quarter.
4:42 is just so addicting like 😍😍😍
At 7:17 the trumpet part is up about a half step or a whole step. Listen to the performance and it sounds a little different there. Other than that this was amazing this early and by ear!
Matt Wilson haha thanks and yeah that part was a little tricky. I kind of know it's not right but I couldn't figure it out with any vid so yeah🤷🏻♂️
Dillon Reese yeah I can see how that part would be hard. Other than that great comp!
Dillon Reese yo dillon if you are ever not sure about the pitch of something, hmu and if i can actuly figure out which of the 5 million parts youre looking for ill tell you what its on n stuff
Matt Wilson what specific part were you talking about? like which line idk which part is which instrument and what phrase(s) you speak of
MrPenguinsCanada after down up up down up up down upup down run and one note in the run is up a step on the trumpet line listen to both the Live one and this and you can heAr the difference
please tell me musescore is free, and is there anyway we can get a drum line/ percussion transcription for this?
MrPenguinsCanada Musescore is free my friend. Not sure about the percussion ensemble transcription since it is pretty difficult to tranacribe the rhythms.
MrPenguinsCanada after the season is complete, the whole pit/battery score should be close to complete if not complete and I will post another video when done!
Dillon Reese i have no clue how seasons work im new to this marching band concept, and im also canadian so we dont have crazy stuff like this
I was really surprised seeing the grow till tall beginning solo was a baritone. My first time hearing it I thought it was a mellophone
Isn't there a low brass entrance at around 7:43 crescendo up to the big hit?
Big Fat and proud i think you may be right if my memory serves me right
Big Fat and proud if i wasnt hearing things, i could faintly hear a tenor octave play an Eb for 2 bars then an F for 2 bars with a slight crescendo into the the Bb chord, probably a euphonium or trombone, or some fancy marching band instrument i dont know the name of with about the same range
Big Fat and proud you are correct. Sadly, I'm not perfect 😢
That trumpet part is just a big NOPE to play
5:46
Marking for future reference
i wonder how this would sound with my concert band? (im going into grade 12) am i having too much faith in us? we were 47 this year no clue how many next year, but we dont exactly have amazing players, as a whole we are still one of the top HS bands in the city doe, i wonder, we have some trumpets who could hit those parts and i could nail the tuba part on contrabass clarinet, but horn im not sure about if thats playable by us, our tbn section doesnt even exist, and the new grade 10s (band is 10-12) arnt amazing, euph could do it doe shes solid, and we have a couple good flutes and clarinets, so maybe this could work, be a huge challenge
Does anyone else notice this is literally Psychopomp by Thank You Scientist??
Robert Grahmann YES! been searching for this!
Dillon I can't believe u did this by ear, do you have absolute pitch?
xXDirtyDanGamingXx i actually have no where close to perfect pitch haha. I can sing the notes and harmonies to myself pretty easily so I just use that to get most of it. Which is some sort of skill I guess but yeah.
I'm only in color guard so I'm reading these comments like "wHAT ARE YALL TALKING ABOUT"
Do BD 2017
Ab Abu done
Maybe putting tenor clef for the baritone solo at Grow Till Tall will make it easier to read
Alex Easley I mean yes, that is true but if you know bass clef, then you should be able to pick out those notes pretty solidly.
Well the entire point of different clefs is that so people don't have to read ledger lines that high. A C in the middle of treble clef is a C is 4 spaces above the bass clef. So instead of having to count them out, people used different clefs to make it easier. Tenor clef being the most common for trombone/baritones/bassoon. And reading B and A all the way up there gets difficult, even for really skilled musicians
Alex Easley yeah I know all the theory behind it and stuff but I guess I’m just used to playing up there with 1st tbone in jazz and it seemed okay to me. Also, if people cannot read that high for bass clef, they probably wouldn’t understand or even know tenor clef since that is generally not taught for many high schoolers or middle schoolers which would be the main audience attracted to try and learn this music. But yeah, I totally understand that it would be a lot clearer in treble or tenor.
The text is hilarious
7:26 these trumpet solos
Ack it’s a stock soundfont
Baritone parts are missing.
Spectral_Wolves musescore.com/user/4279506/scores/4138271
I have a very good relative pitch, I can almost say I have absolute pitch but I do not
And they do
Good job but find a better sound library!
only the bluecoats will write a stunning ballad and face away from the front while performing the most impactful part🥲
"SMACK THIS SOLI"
7:30 youre welcome
7:28
6:41 to the end
That's how their trombones sound like too lol.
Where's Metamorph?
James Ho in the works!
Dillon Reese Thanks for the reply.
Where is it bro? Is it even coming?
I guess not...
James Ho I have a life right now sorry man.
Down side up part 2
"Smack this soli" 😂
FUCK I NEED TO LEARN THE TUBA SOLO
Bone solo surprisingly easy
That openening trumpet solo is wrong
2:00 "bob your head"
2:33
they could at least cover up the euph solo.....cause that obviously isn't good
