the way to learn isn't to write the notes and try to memorize them later on. You read a chapter, close the book, and then try to recall everything you read. The next day, or however often, you grab a new piece of paper, and again try to recall what you learned and rewrite them again. The most important thing is to recall the information from your head. Re-reading beautifully written notes does not help over the long term. You should always try to rewrite your notes when you are studying.
Yea that’s the most effective method. I usually wake up early on the day of the exam and recall my notes, rewriting it
exactly. active recall is literally the best study technique ever. its helped me soo much on tests
There’s many different learning/recalling/memorising methods so you can choose what works best for you
I find actually explaining what you’ve learnt is more efficient cause not only can you remember the key terms and definition but you can explain them and give examples which shows a deeper level of understanding then simply memorising and recalling
That's called FEYNMAN METHOD
I'm literally counting hours for my ipad pro to get delivered. Your handwriting is beautiful. Mine is kinda mix of yours and cursive.
Sammme I have 3 weeks
@@pearlieelder1312 did it arrive? :)
@@kleineschnecke3800 yes it did actually it came earlier than expected. It came a week early.
@@pearlieelder1312 nicee! how is your handwriting? I'm scared that I will write super ugly ahaha. My writing on paper is okay ..
@@kleineschnecke3800 it’s getting better, it’s just a learning curve. It’s different for everyone when they get the hang of it. It might take you a week , it took me a month.
I feel like taking handwritten notes is better than typing notes because writing helps you memorize better but writing on the iPad Pro is better than handwriting notes because it’s easier to do things on there.
agreed!
They’re basically the same thing, you will remember the notes on your iPad because you wrote it, and writing it by hand helps you remember. Memorization wise they are the same. It’s only for typing when you dont remember things as much. :)
Yep, which is why I never type notes.
I mean true but if there is an assignment i would use typing
And on ipad or any tablet taking notes it is easy and eco friendly!
I actually started medical school doing paper notes. However, it was difficult to keep up with the number of notes I needed to write and all the resources. Plus, given the amount I was writing and also needing to print paperwork and handouts, I actually ended up filling 2 3 inch binders in just 1 semester with my paper notes and I didn't even write all my class notes as I should have. Following semester I switched to an iPad Pro. I had been told from the beginning to get one, that it would make my studies easier but I didn't listen and ended up regretting it. For the amount of work I was doing, the iPad was much better. I could import information which meant I didn't have to write everything and could also easily add pictures to my notes. Plus I was no longer carrying around 2 large binders and my back was very happy about that. The only downside is actually the battery for the Apple Pencil, not the iPad itself. I can charge the iPad while still using it but when the Apple pencil runs out of battery I have to stop and wait for it to charge which is annoying. For this, I would recommend having a backup stylus like the Logitec crayon which is made to work with the iPad specifically and has most of the features of the Apple pencil but any writing stylus for iPad should work fine since you'll only be using it for a short time.
thanks for the great advice karim!
im not sure if you would consider switching to android, but the Samsung s6 lite has a pen that doesn't require charging! maybe it's the same for other s pens :)
The Apple pencil gen 1 charges suuuuper fast. In 30 secs its 1/4 charged and its fully charged in half an hour and lasts all day
Wow as someone that’s going to medical soon in the near future this is such valuable information!! Thank you so much!! God bless you❤❤
OMG, exactly what I needed. I love digital and handwritten notes but its not convienent to do both and waste time. Thanks emily!!
yes !!

Nursing student here! The amount of pages of lectures I've had to print out thus far is actually insane, which is my main reason for wanting to switch over to virtual notes. On top of that, I'm very much tired of lugging a huge 2 inch binder filled to the brim even before the end of the semester! I will be getting an ipad pro very soon and I am very much looking forward to it because I'm just so tired of relying on printing out the lectures, ESPECIALLY if I've already printed out a lecture, and my professor's lecture doesn't match up with the one they gave us. This way, instead of killing a whole other tree printing out the updated lecture, I could just pull it up digitally. I also love the idea of being able to easily change my notes how I please without having to worry about it not looking neat. :)
Yes!!! Totally agree, there are so many PowerPoint slides in uni 😩
Update: got my iPad Pro 2 days ago and I am in LOVE with doing notes on it 😍
I switched over to the iPad since doing my postgrad cause there's just too much to carry around and having it all in one place made it so much easier to handle!. Thanks so much for such a lovely video!!
Omggggggg I am blowned away now I didn't know how to Express her work. 😊And the timing of this video is perfect.
aw thanks!
I got my ipad pro for college and since I have started I haven't gone back to paper... Which I appreciate bcs I wasted SO much paper... Like crazy, bcs I had to print all my class materials, then I use to redo my notes so that was a lot of waste, with the Ipad I don't have to print anything bcs I carry it with me at all times, also I believe that if we look at it from now to three years we would spend less money with an Ipad than with paper, stationary, tint for the printer, backpacks, etc
@@hazeljoycesarmiento8453 mmm it's a good question, and in fact it does, i recently bought a pair of blue light glasses which has helped me a lot, but i don't think it is entirely the ipad's fault bcs i also spend hours looking at the laptop screen, that's what virtual college is like... 🤷🏻♀️
@@hazeljoycesarmiento8453 probably but when i did paper i used so whiteout that I think my body is better off by being spared all the chemicals from that 😂I can just move stuff around with the lasso tool
I agree, it does depend on what works for you! For me, I'd like to write down all the nitty gritty stuff on an ipad while I write down more significant points on a notebook. Mostly cause looking at one thing for too long (in this case, a screen) stresses me out. In the times I want to take a break from my devices but still have to study, it helps to have a notebook handy-dandy!
The way I kind of make do with my digital vs handwritten dilemma is that my school work goes in my iPad, while my planning and journaling is on paper. I really did try to do all paper, but I hate planning digitally, for some reason. As much as I like my electronics, I need a bit of paper in my life xD
your notes are everything!! and this video was so well composed, i definitely appreciate the effort you put into it 🤩
thank you!
Whatever it be IPAD or Paper
My Handwriting would still be the same
If anyone wants to use iPad as a notebook I suggest you to buy iPad 6th generation. This iPad apple pencil supported and it’s cheaper than the other iPads. Emily can you pin this ? 😊
there's no difference in terms of e.g. battery life compared to newer versions right?
I have 6th gen and Apple Pencil gen 1 it’s amazing! I love it so much!
I totally agree with you on most things: except for the environmental impact.
One of the biggest impacts on the environment by using an I-pad is actually that electricity use of servers, and charging, and web hosting. All these components use electricity, which if you live in a country like the US or China: is produced through coal. There are actually stricter regulations on tech recycling since the components are more valuable, and many countries are starting to take up dismantling these devices as a business, and the resale market is pretty thriving. This impact is def lessened if you get an Ipad Pro, as the technology and worth of that object is retained for far longer than the budget option.
Paper, however, uses various chemical processes depending on whether it's hot pressed or cold pressed. Most writing paper uses more of these chemicals in order to reduce the tooth or bumps (unlike something like watercolor paper). In addition to this, depending on the paper, it is NOT recycled. Between 63 and 67 percent of paper is recycled at the end of the day. That's just a little more than Half. The more times something is recycled, the thinner the cellulose becomes. Paper items have about 2 to 7 reprocessing before unusability: and that's not accounting for paper that is not collected.
Point: paper recycling and production using heavy chemicals and bleach, it accounts for 37 percent of all felled trees. Paper recycling uses more energy than an ipad to produce and reuse by a lot. 15 percent of all municipal waste is non recyclable paper: and it is laden with chemicals and plastic sheeting.
All and all: when we use things like paper take-out containers, it is not eco-friendly.
All and all: If we have a suitcase full of paper for notes, reports, and print-outs at the end of our schooling: your environmental impact is higher than if you were to use an electronic device.
Oh thank you for the comment! Did not know this!
Sealed the deal for me
I love how you put so much effort into things this kind of channel calms me down haha xx
Oh, thank you. I have seven note-taking apps installed - so yeah, distraction. As a writer/editor since 1972 I'm loving the iPad because it removes a big wall that I would otherwise have to climb over - turn on computer...or scribble on paper and transcribe later. I've settled on Nebo for handwriting and Drafts for converting to text plus fast keyboard-only editing using custom shortcuts I learned in 1983 with WordStar (what a thrill).

Your handwriting is amazing and beautiful i love it . Very clear, neat and readable . Hoping i adopt it .
I have an iPad Air 2 that I use with a touch input stylus and I find that especially for practice exams and revision it’s really good because there’s so many exams to do and it’s saved a lot of printing at home which is good cause ink is quite expensive. Like I would have easily had to print off 500+ sheets of paper or done them in my notebook pages if I didn’t have it.
Yes agreed
I love writing on my iPad, but I study better when looking at paper. I’m thinking maybe I’ll take digital notes and print them out? It wouldn’t necessarily be a waste of paper since I would normally take paper notes anyway. I’m so conflicted!
Yeah that’s what I’d I sometimes take notes on my iPad and print them out and if I take notes on paper I scan them in digitally. I works for me because sometimes I like to study on paper me sometimes I like to study on my iPad
Im so excited to get an IPad for school when I’m in 11th and 12th grade but that’s still about one and a half year from now so I’ll just watch your videos of these pretty notes and wait for the day I’m gonna be able to finally do my notes on an iPad too because it’s so much handier to only have one thing to take with you. Anyways I love your notes and they get me so excited to take notes digitally too🥰🥰
yay
I tried both traditional and modern ways when I used my iPad for studying my GPA went down very bad then I decided to go back to the old ways and fixed my GPA and studying turned better and easier it is hard to have all text book with me at once so I decided to buy a trolley bag
ive studied using a tablet i found it so much easier a) for my dyslexia b) you don't end up with crumpled paper in the bag or if it rains and your binder is in like a handbag style bag you get wet paper a tablet it so much easier to carry and most schools now are online anyway like my college worked on google classroom etc
OMG. Your handwriting is really beautiful
I've always hated taking handwritten notes, I felt so guilty about all the paper waste, so much so that I could never convince myself to print out notes, which ended up hindering me later on (shocker, I know). Recently I've switched over so digital and I am in LOVE-when I tell you I've never felt so motivated to take notes! of course it isn't for everyone and my issue with traditional note taking was my purely my own fault, however I would definetly recommend digital, (again, only if you have the means to do so, it isn't absolutley necessary and everyone works differently, I just personally really enjoy it).
Thank you so much for putting the calendar in the description because I tried downloading it and it didn’t work but then I tried it again and it did and it’s been helping me so much with my organization skills so thank you
I love I pad notes personally but thats just my preference 💕
I WANNA LEARN HOW TO TAKE NOTES LIKE THIS! THERE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL

so from watching this, i concluded that i will take notes on real paper. i am in grade 6, so i dont need to take notes.
we have a book which includes question we have to answer in the book. its not like textbooks we have to annotate. i just take notes for exams so i remember things better. plus, the ipads produce harmful rays and my mom does not let me stay on my ipad for long. also, i ordered a bunch of stationary so i dont want that to go to waste.
so, when i do need to take notes like you, it will be a few years from now, so i will need to upgrade my 7th gen ipad to another one, and i’ll take a bigger screen version.
I love the flexibility of using an ipad, my paper notes look terrible due to the amount of scratching I do, with ipad my notes look neater and don't have to worry too much about keeping stuff organised.
I don't download other apps like instagram or whatsapp, I use either phone or desktop for those
I wish I could afford an iPad😢😢 love your videos and omg your handwriting 💕
Such wonderful ideas and suggestions. My ipad is almost 8 years old and it really is time to update it...although it is still functional there are so many things it can't do nowadays. Is there a specific version recommended for notes like you are doing? I am not attending school but feel a good notes app like what I am seeing would be so beneficial for so many aspects of my life and continual learning for my brain. I will be updating the ipad within the next couple of weeks (waiting on the money lol). I am not really in need of an expensive one but need to know what space requirements you'd recommend at the minimum with using apps like you used in this. Your recommendations would definitely be considered.
Congratulations on 6k ❤🎂
Thanks 😊
Freshman in college here lemme give u my opinion I bought that iPad Pro, keyboard and pencil after 1 month use I rather use a notebook. If u Bern using a notebook ur whole life keep it that way don’t try to change. Good thing is my notebook doesn’t drain my eyes and run out of battery.
Awesome video! I absolutely love your handwriting, have you thought about making a font out of it?
Yep, it’s on my Etsy shop☺️
I ordered my 1st iPad pro today & now I'm watching it's advantages and usage
Happy 6k subscribers Emily!
yay thanks!
ipad saves you a lot (a LOT) of paper and makes doing work so much easier. however, i do catch myself really missing the experience of writing on paper lol
which is why having a paperlike screen protecter keeps some of the feel.
I have recently been getting interested in getting an iPad for note taking. After seeing all these videos I’m now more leaned into getting one, and now I can afford it due to my leftover fafsa money. So glad I watched these videos
have u gotten it for urself?
Hi Emily your handwriting is amazing!!😀 I love your videos!!
YOUR HANDWRITING THO- 😳🤩
SERIOUSLY WHENEVER YOU SHOW YOUR NOTES IN THIS VIDEO MY JAWS DROPS 🥴
I even thought it was a font 🤭
okay i’m gonna shut up so i’m subscribing-
The typography is top notch👌🏼
I'm planning to buy an iPad (I haven't chosen yet between Air or Pro) for starting my psych major next year as I've seen how heavy it can get on my back to always carry so much stuff and as it's easier to lose my paper notes... I could need it right now but I wanna wait for the students's promo this summer to also get free airpods :)
i would choose the air since it's much cheaper and basically the same thing as the pro
For me the biggest advantage is my backpack is a lot lot lighter. I have drawers full of notebooks of all types of sizes with books I've written or starting to write, doodles, notes, ideas, and I literally do not want to go through them all. I still find random notebooks from my classes everywhere like why did I keep this chemistry notebook but with the Ipad I literally can downsize all my notes to fit in a compact easy to find place and I can keep backups of all that on an ssd and that is my substitute for all that clutter a small box of ssd's but the switch was easy for me. I do love handwriting but not enough that I can't switch. I love my fountain pens and my inks and everything but when you carry around ink bottles and all that it's not so fun. Ipad gives me all those ink colors, albeit not as vibrant or shimmery as fountain inks, but I do get pretty close to the colors I love and that works well enough. I like being able to check one page for everything my brain just dumps lol
Wooooooooooooow, how beautiful you take notes! I'm a physics student but I didn't see the word Quantum or ... written in that way 😂 It is perfect.
I think your notes are much more effective than our professor's pamphlets 😂
The thing that got me was the amount of paper I was wasting
tbh i’ve been thinking on using my ipad for classes w pwps, while the notebook for classes that tend to focus more on actually immersing myself into them (humanity, language) but at the same time i’ll kinda leave a space in a notebook for a review of what i studied in the pwp. that’s what i think as a biology student JAAJAJ
Im a current incoming freshman to college and im deciding to get a tablet because i carried heavy loads all during high school. So a tablet is best for me to minimize back pain and for efficent note taking. ❤️
Can u take notes in class on ur iPad???
Your rough work is cleaner than my actual work
My favourite way as I can't afford iPad pro-
As I have yoga tab which is not that expensive so I normally don't take my notes in that but in a square grid notebooks and in the tab I use it for learning things for example when I don't get some thing I go on RUclips and search on the topic and I go on learning websites and do things thier and to feel like laptop I change my Chrome in to desktop version.
I can make my notes a little clean as I m not computer but it helps to memorize easily too. Hope it helps ❤
Wow you look so freaking rich xD
And your nails/hands are cute
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! YOUR A LIFE SAVER1

what app do you use to download your digital textbooks?
Your taking notes on chemistry . I love chemistry. I had a 98 in chemistry (in high school)
You have really nice drawing skills!
How do you get the boxy-looking lettering Emily?!
Got iPad and apple pencil for note taking but never did note taking on it, it doesn't feel good so paper is better
For searchability, does it apply only for goodnotes or other note taking apps too?
the main problem with ipad notes as it will increase eye strain and in the long run probably mess up your eyesight. however, if you dont use your ipad all day youre probably fine
I am still so unsure if I should get an ipad! I am an online student and only take 2 classes a semester so I not doing any crazy amount of notes.
I love taking handwritten notes but I find it could be more convenient to store all my notes digitally and can be easier to access. Rather than having all my notebooks scattered around. Also, handwritten notes can be tedious and time consuming but i'm unsure if using a stylus can make it even harder and more distracting. With taking hand notes I feel I take so much time writing everything down it could be nice to copy and past from a digital notebook and organize into a document.
so I am so unsure what is best for me. I am mainly worried about storing my notes somewhere safely, keeping them organized and being able to spend less time writing (not sure if it is equally time consuming writing with a stylus but at least you can copy/paste in an ipad).
Hello, nice video... Could you tell me after the time from the point you have bought the iPad, how you grades changed? Because I am not sure if there will be an effect that writing on paper made me remember more than writing on iPad or if there is an effect that organisation of all notes in iPad makes my learning more effective... What is your opinion? Thx
hmmm i am not sure i can answer this because i was taking only paper notes in high school, and i got an ipad for university. see, there's a big learning difference with the content in university and highschool. so, i really can't compare my high school vs. university studying habits as they have changed a lot. but what i can say is that the ipad makes your learning more efficient and if i had an ipad in highschool, i may have been more productive, but i don't think my grades would have changed much
@@emilystudying ok, thank you very much for your answer Emily... Really appreciate it! ... definitely i am Gonna buy iPad air with apple pencil!
