I appreciate your business. I've been a Walmart driver for almost 32 years. You probably did buy the most expensive eggs we sell. But they are cage free and brown. I do like brown eggs myself. 😎

I have family in Katy. I planning moving there soon. They all have generators. Your neighbors may have generators too. One thing everyone warned me about moving to Texas was make sure your house has a good generator

Well, we just got our power back, which is why I’m watching now. Crazy how much damage the grid took from a marginal Cat 1 storm. Kinda makes you wonder if CenterPoint’s vegetation management program is up to snuff. Ah, well. This is why God gave us generators. Glad you came through OK! 😃

@douglassnyder8163 Howdy Douglas! You probably got some of the rain from this one in East Texas. We got relatively lucky here in Katy because the eye passed directly over us, which spared us a lot of the extended soaking that other parts of Houston suffered. 😉👍 --QM

I would say that is VERY minimal damage for 80 MPH winds... I've been thru several tropical storms that produced MUCH more damage than what I see where you guys are. Here in Florida, 80 MPH winds take out literally thousands of trees, the entire tree, not just a few limbs, and entire gas stations... all the superstructure over the pumps... we were 6 months cleaning up the down trees several of which were over 3 feet in diameter just on my property alone... we had multiple hundred acre fields of just tree debris, and I don't think we officially got 70 MPH winds... they picked up tree debris for months, and dumped it in those large fields, bulldozers pushed and burned them for months on end... if you had 80 MPH winds, you have different trees than we have here in Florida. I've about had it with these storms... I'm hoping to live elsewhere before next hurricane season... been here 62 years (same area)... I'm over it at this point.

I was interested in seeing the condition of the bike trail that you were on. My wife and I ride those trails quite a bit on the weekends. We ride the one you were on to go to the Bagel Cafe over on Mason Rd. You ought to check that place out if you haven't already.

Thirty years ago, a very unusual very strong storm hit my city, Constanța, Romania. And even if the city is on the Black Sea coast, and has pretty good sewage system, there were flash floods in different part of it, and the water supply system was seriously affected. The tap water preparation plants were flooded, and the tap water contaminated. The local authorities strongly advised the people to boil the tap water before use for drinking or preparing food. Since then, myself and my family are drinking mineral water, exclusively. Romania has some important mineral water resources, and it is affordable to buy large quantities for a good price. Through the times there were other storms, but nothing like a hurricane. The most powerful storms happen in the winter. The Black Sea is well known for sudden strong storms, which sometimes cause the harbors to be closed, but not much else. However, the snow storms and blizzards are way stronger, especially further inland, in the Danube basin, and every winter we have one or two such clashes with the nature, which cause the power outages in small cities and towns, blocks the roads, cutting them out from the rest of the country, force authorities to impose restrictions or close the roads and highways and disturb seriously the railroad traffic. Every time, the Emergency Situations Inspectorate kicks in and respond, many times with support from gendarmerie and armed forces.
It is interesting to see how people deal with such situations, and not from news reports, but from people like you, who share their experiences. Nice video, hope you and your folks are OK, be well!

Lost power for about 8 hours. Had a tree split, and a few minor things got ripped off my house. Down 359 there were a number of power poles laying in the road with the wires completely exposed. Can't believe the wind damage from a low Cat 1.

I'm in Cinco Ranch and we didint have power for days!!
Years back I bought a generator and a widow A/C unit so we at least had power to cool the bedroom.
We keep thinking about getting a whole house generator but the power doesnt really go out here all that often.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  Месяц назад

Yep, we're in the same boat. We have a 3kW 120V generator that can power small loads, but we don't have a small window unit or split system as a backup. I've considered installing a whole-house generator (Kohler 26kW 240V natural gas), but the $10K+ (installed) price tag is hard to swallow. 🤔

It ain't cheap thats for sure.
I have four generators of various sizes so power isnt an issue.
We also have the option of getting the camper out of storage and parking it in the driveway.
Haven't gone that far yet but it is an option.

My neighborhood only lost power for a short time around 7 am, but my breaker panel was having problems. I figured it out around 5 pm after I connected my generator to power important loads (refrigerator, phone chargers, TV for news, etc).
The mains breaker and some others were stuck or corroded and wouldn't flip properly. I convinced them to behave using a wooden drift and some southern engineering. 😉👍 --QM
