Rick James deserves a lot more respect..he was an iconic star and helped bring and promote so many acts. He even gave Eddie Murphy a damn hit song. I feel kinda bad that the chapelle show kinda ruined his image. My parents are from buffalo and I had a pretty good appreciation for his music but I was in high school when the chapelle show skit dropped and “I’m Rick James bitch” “F your couch” “and cocaine is a helluva drug” kinda tarnished his legacy. Literally that was all people were saying in the halls for months. Like truly a meme before we knew what a meme was. People look at him as more of a clown instead of a true musical pioneer that he was. Maybe not people who were outside when he was popping. But definitely anyone 40 and under
