Question of the Day: Please write about a time that you were caught off guard / a time that someone caught you by surprise. My answer: When I was living in Japan, there were many things that caught me by surprise at first due to cultural differences between Japan and Canada. However, when I returned to Canada I was caught off guard by reverse cultural shock. 😅 How about you?
@@euphoric6790 Thanks for your comment. Your first sentence is perfect. The second example doesn't work because it is to catch someone off guard. ( ~ caught + who + off guard.) You could use, "He caught me off my guard when he told me that he loved me." But, "He caught me off guard when he told me that he loved me" is the most natural and correct choice.
Aww, ☺️ Thank you so much for your sweet comment 🥰 I'm happy to be able to help you and your husband improve your English together. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for your comment, Tony. I am glad that you enjoyed this lesson. (PS. Catch, Caught, Caught. "This lesson caught me by surprise.") You can review irregular verbs with this lesson: ruclips.net/video/kPdyAK8My9A/видео.html
This my first time watching this video.. Oh! And I loved it so much. The way you explaining is easy to understand for non native speakers. I would definitely follow your next videos! Please correct me sentence I was caught off guard by my own appereance after I cut my hair.
Thank you for your nice comment. I am so glad to hear that this lesson is helpful for students. ☺️ Your last sentence made me chuckle a little. Did you give yourself a 'quarantine haircut'? 😅💇🏻 As per your request, I have re-written the part your comment that contained a few errors with the following corrections (The rest of your sentences were perfect): "The way you explained is easy to understand for non native speakers. Hang in there! Things these days are difficult for everyone. Remember that you're not alone in this, we're all in this together. The seriousness of the whole coronavirus situation has caught the world off guard, but we will get through this! ❤️

Before I went to Canada, I always focus on the Soviet and Russia. Russia gives me more power. This power helps me go to the Canada. So I like to comparing with Canada and Russia!
Early settlers to Canada were from France and the UK and this is still reflected in the common first names given to children. Although Canada has become more multicultural these days, Russian names are not really that popular in my opinion. You seem very interested in comparing Canada to Russia. May I ask, why?
I was sinked on the bus of the airport. Reason 1: My family were disagreed with study in Canada Reason 2: I was made my cousin been unhappy with me. Reason 3: I didn't finish my summer work yet. Who gives me more power during that time: The border of China and Russia,Vladimir Ulyanov Lenin,Joseph Visaronovich Stalin,The huge territory and influence of the Soviet Union,Warsaw Treaty Organization. That's the reason!
Interesting comment. I am not sure what you mean by, " I was sinked on the bus of the airport." The past tense of sink is 'sunk', but sink means to go under water / to be submerged in water. I don't think an airport bus would be in the water. Perhaps you mean, "I was thinking on the bus on the way to the airport."
Hi Morteza✨. It is still shocking even three years later. Great use of 'caught off guard' though 🌸. I hope everything is going well with you these days🤗.
Thanks for your comment ☺️ It seems like you have a very romantic husband 🙂 (PS. Be careful of the verb form, " When I received a gift from my husband I was caught by surprise.")
Why my power is from the Russia? When I heard my cousin speaks English in very native Canadian accent , I will tell myself:"You're not only one, because someone's accent are more stronger than you which is from the Russia, Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria and Albania!""
Means: They're grow in Canada, so they can speak English very well. Also not only me have very strong accent. Russian usually have very strong accent too! That's what the meaning of Russian gives me more energy.
Thanks for the question, Ahmed 🔥 They are similar, but they don't have the exact same meaning. If something is set on fire, then it was ignited on purpose, but if something catches on fire it is usually in flames unintentionally. For example: The arsonist set the office on fire after losing his job. Unfortunately, a nearby restaurant also caught on fire. 🔥 I hope that helps. ☺️

My family said:I agree with you, but you should prove yourself. So I always get the power from the Russian revolution song.
That's very interesting.
In my eyes, Surname First Name in Canada are : Vladimir Sergeyevich Vasilyev, Dmitry Petronko and Nikolai Ivanov etc.
