    Dear J:Could i know what 'pay at the first born' and 'pay through the nose'means?

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  3 года назад

      To pay through the nose is an idiom which means to pay more than what something should actually cost. For example, if you rent a car without insurance and then get into an accident, you will have to pay through the nose for the damage.

    Dear J:Could you tell me what 'pay at the first born'means?

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  3 года назад

      Hi Jimmy😎. When we say 'firstborn' in English we are usually referring to someone's first-born child, the child they gave birth to first. For example, I have a younger brother but my mom only has two children, so I am the firstborn.
      The exact phrase that you're asking about though, I've never heard and am not sure what it would mean. Sometimes we have the expression 'to pay with your firstborn' meaning that a person's first-born child is kind of offered as a sacrifice for something, like in the story of Rumpelstiltskin. 😅
      I hope that helps 🤗.

      Hi Ayane ☺️. A territory is an area of land in a country that doesn't meet the qualifications to officially be considered a province or state. Canada has 10 provinces and 3 territories. Our 3 territories are Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. They are in the northern part of Canada and have smaller populations than our provinces 🇨🇦. You can learn more about it in this video here: ruclips.net/video/2gh_r2IS5pc/видео.html 🤗.

    • @JeNsJyugyou
      @JeNsJyugyou  3 года назад

      You can pay your respect to anyone, this expression doesn't have to be used connected to someone who has passed away. To pay your respects to someone is a bit of a formal expression, so I personally only use it in formal situations or to discuss formal situations. I hope that helps 🤗
