  • My first drive with Tesla FSD 12.4.3 was zero intervention, though it wasn't able to find a spot to pull over at the end. It looks like completely hands free self-driving is ready for wide release!

Yes, it is incredible! and to think that the media and public at large aren't thrilled with anticipation for what is about to unfold is mind boggling . Watching the birth of FSD on RUclips has really highlighted the lack of vision that the vast majority of people have. They either desperately want it to fail in their quest to cling to what's familiar, or they only see the mistakes. The reality is that Tesla FSD can now handle over 90% of driving scenarios with no human intervention required. It will be far superior to human drivers in the near future and will be as boring and commonplace as driving internal combustion engine cars are today. It'll be no big deal and we will quickly forget that we used to have to manually drive ourselves everywhere.

Is when I’m in the fast lane with FSD and another car is coming up fast behind me my Tesla model Y will move into the middle lane to let the car go by and then, if there are no more cars coming up quickly, it will move back to the fast lane again.

A very badly located crossing. Far too many cars parked too close.

Failing to move adds to confusion for those with no right of way.
High risk of low speed collision.

First thanks for your support to Tesla FSD and years of being a Early Access participant. I look to you and Chuck Cook for methodical testing of each version. I got out of the program a number of years ago when vehicle became stuck without updates (awaiting FSD improvement sync to feature versions). However, I did receive an early version of 12.4.3 on my Model S, Plaid (AP4). Although 12.4.3 is smoother, I found many regressions --- wrong routes, speed limits incorrect, jerky speeds for no apparenct reason, failure to manuver around vehicle that 12.3.6 could, getting in the wrong lane (actually, got our of the right lane 2/10 of a mile before having to make the right turn), failling to make turn into my neighborhood that was fixed in 12.3.6. When manuvering between cones in a construction area, it decided to try to go up a steep curb which I had to prevent. Completely missing turns due to wrong lane. I enjoyed using 12.3.6 but find so many problems here in Atlanta with 12.4.3 that I wish I could go backwards. For me 12.4.3 is not unsafe, but I've never completed an extended drive w/o an intervention. Hopefully, Tesla's team will work on another "point" release before going wide... That's why we test... thanks for your channel and all the other Early Access drivers out there.

It still absolutely astounds me that so many drivers in the US roll through a stop sign. Stop means stop. Period.
In most countries around the world rolling through a 🛑 Stop sign will earn you an expensive ticket. Here in Australia it’s hundreds of dollars and serious points on your licence if a cop sees you, and therefore more than likely writes you a ticket.

My city replaced many stop signs with yield, to avoid people having to stop and restart on a snowy, icy hill, at least when no one is coming.
When i lived in Oslo a couple of months, the law was that one should yield and preferably not stop where minor residential streets met slightly larger residential streets. They thought that worked better for traffic flow.
Given that American drivers seem to prefer yield to stop, I wonder if they'd find they like roundabouts.

Sadly for me in my rural routes, other than lane centering (which is better), 12.4.3 is a regression in every way compared to 12.3.6! It pulls partly straight out into intersections, pauses, and then tries to make a hard 90 degree turn instead of following a natural arc. It switches lanes back and forth for no reason. Gets "locked" at lower speeds and you have to "remind" it to go back up to the speed limit by pressing the accelerator. And is just overall more unsure. 2024 Model 3 Performance with hardware 4. Still, progress can be a little bumpy at times. Kudos to the FSD team for having their eyes on the prize and working so hard!

I kept thinking the sticker in the lower right of the windshield was a warning sign on the street ahead! I would also rather see the nav screen larger and with the car's direction pointing up, which would also bring the actual speed, target speed, and speed limit into view. With FSD, I really don't have to have the full screen showing all the stuff around the car.

like it is so close to greatness, and might even be better than some drivers, but the fact that sometimes it might screw up, makes people really nervous. i believe it is the future, and if self driving is the only thing on the road, it will straight up be better. but its just convincing people that the screwups that go viral are a nonconcern. i also believe that road signs and roads should be designed for self-driving cars in the future, so that the roads help make the cars more reliable and remove the small chances of failure that there might be, in say extremely low visibility weather. maybe something like instead of light that cant penetrate through snow it uses another wavelength that the cameras can pick up or some other cheap sensor through heavy rain or snow at long distances. or reflecting stribs on the road that reflect light that the car puts out from the headlight that the car can see but not the passenger.

That was pretty good. One thing that always bother me with FSD was how hard it would brake instead of being more human like of easing into the brakes.

Compared to regular traffic in any big city this is kids' play. Take it into downtown SF or any big city in the rush hours. In terms of difficulty it was like lesson 2 in driving school. So it gives you zero confidence it can handle real havy traffic.

With Auto Speed, you don't have the option to throttle the speed to account for conditions. In version 12.3.6 its left turn lane changes are sometimes squirrelly and it does not slow down when first responders have flashing lights in a lane on the road. In addition, it attempted to change lanes into the lane where the first responders had flashing lights, which caused me to take over. I use FSD all the time, but it is called supervised for a reason. The hard braking on yellow lights is still an issue on 12.3.6.
