- Sure, you can use a riding lawnmower to cut grass. But you can also slap on a helmet, put together a pit crew and race. Yes, lawnmower racing is a thing, and it is extraordinary. Think NASCAR or Formula 1-just a bit slower. In England, the British Lawn Mower Racing Association oversees the sport. We followed the members of the Who’s Racing team as they compete in a grueling 12-hour endurance race in Five Oaks, England. Get ready to witness the Greatest Show on Turf.

This is so cool. It's a legit race. And when you add the engineering and lawn mower modifiers, it's so interesting to watch. This is indeed the purest form of racing
I’ve been along to this event a few years ago with team “ grassed and furious” sadly we didn’t finish as the engine blew in the early hours of the morning but it was great fun 🛠😀👍🏻

In the netherlands we race solex motorized bicycles. The ones with the engine on the frontwheel. Great fun

I live in the netherlands and we also have these mower races, only here you can (almost) change whatever you want as long as it looks like a lawnmower. So the mowers have 600cc 100hp bike engines which makes them stupid fast.
300CC+ in a lawnmower is literally a tiny version of a Lancia Stratos.

My mower has a 500cc single cylinder it's completely stock
Here in the U.S. we have the FXT (factory experimental twin) class, which run V-twins up to 720cc. They sound more like muscle cars than mowers.

The little town of Twelve Mile, Indiana started what was called the "Twelve Mile 500" riding lawn mower race in 1963. It's been goin on every July 4th ever since.
This sounds like the absolute best use of 12 hours.

This and 24 Hours of Lemons are some of my favorite kinds of motorsport. F1 and GT races might have the cutting edge of engineering, but the spirit of what makes these sports fun is in the plucky ingenuity of people who have to make due with significantly less than idea resources, and still pull off some amazing stuff anyway.
