Pete, Glad you watched it mate. We both thing on the same wavelength. This Dutch bivi is going to open up a lot of stealth camp options for me. I like the warm closed in feel that the bivi give and am amazed at how low the visual impact is. You are absolutelty right about using time in the here and now. Sounds like your in for a busy year. Over the last few months I have managed a camp once every 2 weeks. Got plans too. All the best mate Sandy
Re watched this five years on and enjoyed it even more, so nice to be connected with the ground of the forest, in a nice way, a place that inspires the very ground of our being and all the oneness of life. Beautiful film. Thank you. Harry
Nice one Sandy, really enjoyed that and such a stunning location. That manor house was unreal, like a doll house as you said! What it would be to own such land. That bivi looks the business, well put together and roomy. Really nice video, thanks for sharing., Mike
Thanks for the video Sandy, lovely countryside and similar to where I live up in the Yorkshire Wolds. Just getting my kit together and resurecting other stuff to do my first wild camp, unfortunately it too will have to be a stealth camp but at least it is on the junction of two long distance paths so at least I will have some cred for being there. It's well wooded and in a valley not overlooked by anyone so should be undisturbed. I like all your video's, they give us all plenty of tips and nice to see Elsa spending time with you too. Keep em coming. Regards, Steve.
I forget a lot of the times you have 2 channels & you're bushcrafter at heart & a knife master by trade. I really enjoy the outings thanks for taking us along Sandy
Thanks for sharing. Up here in Scotland we have the right to rome now so as long as we dinnae damage anything we can go most places. You should come up some time, lots of beautiful scenery.
So apt, an orange SIM in a Dutch Bivi! Thanks again for the guidance and encouragement by email yesterday. Picked up some more bits today at Wilderness Leisure and bumped into FunkyPrepper! Should be out for my first solo wild camp over-nighter very soon! Thanks for your continued inspiration.
Its five years since I first watched this nice little film Sandy, and it inspired me to begin wild camping for which I thank you. A classic . all the best . Harry
Another fine vidoe sandy, yours are always and always worth watching. Good to see you out and about out in the open enjoying your self again, liked your last few posts, special. Must have a look at the Dutch Amry hooped bivi now, thanks.
Thanks for bringing me along! I especially like the history of the area around you! To think that so much has happened on the land you've walked upon is amazing!
Nice bivy. I still think the hammock set up is the way to go (provided there's a couple of trees handy). Thanks for taking us along. Cheers from Montreal, QC
Love this video Sandy. We have wonderful countryside here in the UK and as you say it's there for everyone to enjoy. On an overnighter next weekend so will be sporting my Jacklore. All the Best Spenny
Wonderful video Sandy! I'm still in the grip of winter here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but hope to get out camping in four to six weeks. Two feet of snow on the ground still but the days are getting longer and the sun a little higher. Thanks for the history lessen, the nice music, and beautiful scenery. At 60 years old I understand the importance of using our time wisely. Thank you for making your videos! Sincerely, Ossie
Idris, I slept soundly from midnight til 06:30 when a pheasant chrtled close by and woke the dog who inturn woke me! Absolutley no condensation whatsoever. Really impressed with it. Sandy
Hi Sara, There is such a depth of history here going back to the great stone culture and the first settlers of these islands. The Ridgeway is the oldest road in Britian. I have walked and camped along the section from Avebury to Ivinghoe beacon. Thats a distance of 85 miles. That part of the ridgeway is known as the Neolithic section with huge open vista's and rolling chalk downlad. Everywhere is the sound of the skylark. Its a beautiful place. Take care Sandy
I really like that sleeping set up with the dutch bivi. I would love to do that set up but would have to shorten my dogs legs to get her in there so therefore I'm stuck with a tent! What a great spot to pitch you got there. Thanks
Hi ekhaat, The Dutch bivi is really great. Well made but as you say it really does need a tarp over it. With the addition of the tarp it becomes 5 star accomodation. It was so nice being able to unzip the bivi and just lean out and cook my breakfast under the tarp. I will be using it quite a bit this year. Sandy
Interesting video sandy. Always enjoy them. Keep em coming. I agree with your comment with regards to the cemetary. Life is short and we need to make it count, and for me that means getting out in the woods and hills as much as I can. All the best!
Cracking trip out Sandy, looks like a fantastic bit of kit that bivvy bag! Good to see that wind shield working so well for both the stove and the candle lantern. I just got a new gas cartridge for my Coleman Spirit stove, for a change after using the tatonka spirit burner and folding firebox for a while. All the best and MTFBWY!
Hi Rick, Glad you enjoyed this. If ever you want to do a camp let me know. I have places to use with permission too and can light fires and cook in the dutch oven. Hope you have a good day on the allotment today? Thanks for watching. Sandy
I find myself returning to this video over and over again Sandy. While not having enough time to shoot my own videos, watching yours is my relaxing part of the day. You're too awesome my friend.
Hi Sandy, after watching ive got myself a dutch bivvy and bash and got myself out for a night on the coast in Devon!! slowly getting more kit together! Thankyou for posting your vids on here they are a great help, and gave me lots of inspiration!! If you ever hit the Devon tracks it would be great to meet up!!to get a bit more experience under my belt!! all the best.Mark
Great vid Sandy, and good solid kit, I am a side sleeper and so have to be on the ground. That set up of yours will work anywhere, trees or no trees, with a couple of walking poles. Regards Ian
Hi Colin, Thanks for watching. This bivi would suit you for hill camping. No matter how windy it gets you can be sure it won't get blown down or torn unlike a tent. Sandy
Really like the historical stuff in the beginning. Also I use my wind block to amplify the light from my hurricane lamp too, but a GREAT use is behind a fire box Nano, rite in front of a tarp shelter. I actually found out about your channel through Pete's while researching tarp set ups, but I'm now subscribed to many from the U.K as your camping tactics work well where I live in America.
Hi Dan, Thanks for watching. It's great to get out. Glad you find my vids interesting. I will be doing a lot more this year. Can't get enough! Where do you live Dan, I am on the outskirts of Swindon but grew up in Shrivenham and Watchfield. All very close to Ashbury. Sandy
Beautiful video, Sandy. Gorgeous country where you live. It is a pleasure to watch your videos, always very peaceful. Your dog (Elsa?) looks to be a great travel companion. BTW Ashdown house gardens are very pretty from a google maps satellite view.
Great video Sandy. Ive been looking at buying a dutch bivi for a while now. That was a really informative video on the subject and now im confident of getting one. thanks again Sandy all the best mate Craig
Great video and interesting how you included the local history as well as the wild camp. Poignant message at the end and very true my friend. Cheers Sandy Terry
Loved your video! It was almost like watching a zen-like adventure... With the nice musique, historic references, nature sights and sounds, and your calm and warm voice. Very relaxing to watch. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.
Thank you for sharing your adventure. I think its wonderful to be able to see people and places from around the world. You live in a beautiful and historical place!
Hi Sandy, Thanks for sharing the wonderful adventure. I love hearing about the history and seeing the all those charming sites.. You had a neat little campsite set up that looked nice and comfy too.. : o)
Feb '24 and I've watched this to confirm that I've done the right thing in buying a DABB to stealth camp next week...... Thanks for the great review Sandy😉👍
Hi Nathan, The bivvy will be great for wild camping in areas where I want to remain hidden. And I also plan on using it when visiting mountanous regions. I was having fun. Sandy
Thanks Mike, I am really pleased I've got this bivi. It will open up a lot more oportunities for stealth camping. It was also very warm and I have no doubt will serve well as a mountain shelter when I go hiking in the Brecon beacons soon. Thanks for watching Sandy

I've walked the Ridgeway too Sandy, but never diverted off to see Alfred's Castle, or the unusual Ashdown House- nice to see both... Hooped bivvy looks ideal for that kind of stealth camp in Feb. :-)
I Googled Alfred's Castle and Ashdown House and found pictures of the area. It's fun finding out about the countryside there. Very nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Really enjoyed this video. A well done blend of everything, bushcraft, survival, camping, gear review and a bit of historical info etc. Really nice relaxing video. What more can one ask for? Well done!
Nice little overnighter with the hooped biv' Sandy. Good you could try it out in situ to a bit of stealth....we loves our stealth lol. Cheers for the name drop mate. Poinient little comment at end of the vid for sure about we're a long time 6ft under or dust to the wind, time is precious, we can't save it.....it can only be used in the "now" not before not after, so we need to use it wisely & more more of it outdoors the better. Plenty planned for me this yr - rivers hills n woods. Cheers Pete
Really enjoyable watch as always Sandy mate Ive got a similar shelter to try out soon .. I spend most of the time outside the tent and only go in to sleep so these types can be a good option . With you on the private land ! I fish a stretch of river that's owned by a knob who lives in Spain .. I buy my rod license even though al never be asked for it where i fish .. I have copleted the Ridgeway from Avebury to Ivinghoe once but have tried in total 3 times. The first two times my feet got the better of me. I find I can walk further in cool weather. The heat makes my feet blister. Alfreds castle is the smallest of the forts. Very interesting and Ashdown house has a real picture book dolls house look Thanjks for watching Sandy
This was a lovely video, I really enjoyed watching it, nice shots of the old hazel woods and deer too. You are a obviously a strong bloke though ! Bivi bag, Tarp, guy lines, old bomb arctic bag, groundsheet, pillow and 3 sleeping mats plus pegs, I work out be pushing 7kg just for your sleep system, that move than my whole kit with food!!!
Just bought one of those bivvy bags and it looks great so far. Much better than the Brit ones from the 80s. Funny though, that I have modded mine to be just like this with the side opening zips added... A little tip is to get a couple of the large tritium glow keyrings and hang them inside. They give out just enough light to see inside the bivvy yet invisible from outside and don't ever run out of batteries! Handy to tie one to your torch, knife, firestick etc etc..
I love the Dutch and Polish gear you guys have access to in the UK. Inexpensive, but great quality. In the US, your only option seems to be US surplus, and that's getting harded and harder to find at a reasonable rate. Keep up the great videos!

I shall be going out camping again very soon Howard
Excellent video. We love your gentle, informative approach. All the best from Dave and Viv

Yes I thought th reflector was a good idea too. Main reason though was to stop any light being seen from passers by like the land owner etc:)
Lovin your videos Sandy! Great to see the different gear you use and locations you camp. Subscribed
Nice little documentary - i do a lot of wild camping myself. Always great to see other people's techniques . Cheers
The hoop really gives a sense of security and keeps your head warm. Really cosy. I recommend it.
Hi mark,

There is a lot of history in these parts, going right back 5000 or more years.
Sandy

Hi Sandy, Thanks for sharing the wonderful adventure. I love hearing about the history and seeing the all those charming sites.. You had a neat little campsite set up that looked nice and comfy too.. : o)
Pete, It will be a good shelter for the Ridgeway, but I would recommend taking a small tarp to give additional shelter whilst cooking etc.
Sandy
Superb overnight camp Sandy and, full of interesting facts, Liked the look of the Dutch Bivi........Les. .
Hi Peter,
Thanks for watching.
Sandy
Feb '24 and I've watched this to confirm that I've done the right thing in buying a DABB to stealth camp next week...... Thanks for the great review Sandy😉👍

So it finally arrived and you had to go out with it the same day lol, great video Sandy and a great bit of kit

Hi Alb. The bivi is worth it. Glad I bought it. I want to use it in Brecon soon.
Sandy
Thank you for a very informative video. I am looking at getting a basha and bivvy set up for my kayak and this seems to be a great option.
There sure is a lot of history in these parts. Thanks for the sub. I will be posting a lot more wild camping vids this year Hope you enjoy them
Sandy
Thanks Bushman,
It is a great piece of kit and I will use it often. I will take a look at your blog spot too.
Sandy
Hi Ken, It was borderline anarchy saying I was tresspassing and encouraging others to do the same. Ofcourse there is often good reasons not to camp in a certain area. For example, there could be rare flora or fauna etc that could be adversley effected, but these woods were derelict and no conservation goes on there but nature it's self, so I didn't feel guillty. So, so sorry to learn that Elsa is no longer with us. Very sad. My thoughts are with you and your wife. I am disabled and enjoy your videos very much. You do what I wish I could. I live my "outdoor life" through you. Thankyou. RIP ELSA.

I have copleted the Ridgeway from Avebury to Ivinghoe once but have tried in total 3 times. The first two times my feet got the better of me. I find I can walk further in cool weather. The heat makes my feet blister. Alfreds castle is the smallest of the forts. Very interesting and Ashdown house has a real picture book dolls house look
Thanjks for watching
Sandy
Beautifully put together film, Sandy! I enjoyed that very much.
That DPM camo pattern really blends nicely in your location.
really nice video sandy, interesting history of the ridgeway path, thanks for sharing.
Great video Sandy really like this set up! Superb! Danny
Nice piece of gear the Dutch Army Bivi. Great video.
Great Video! Glad I decided to look at the vid. I look forward to seeing the rest.
Hi Jack, I was impressed with the bivi. Well worth it inm my opinion. As for history there is volumes of it here. It's a haunted landscape!
Sandy
