The true definition of civilisation is being able to listen to rain drumming on your tarp, or skylight, or te3nt roof, knowing that you are warm, dry and cozy.......

The rain came...ahhhh that sound on the tarp...one of natures many gifts and Elsa keeping you company in the hammock. Truly wonderful. Thank you Sandy for sharing. Happy wandering. Paul :)

I'm glad that the forecast did not let you down Sandy. I also like the sound of rain on a tarp & hope to hear it live myself at some point in the future. All the best to you & your good lady. Neil.

I love the sound of rain on the roof, Sandy.
When I was growing up, we had a tin (corrugated iron) roof.
Sure miss the sound of the raindrops and the thunder.

Great video as normal Sandy. The picture of you resting by the tree with Elsa on your lap just calls out peace and harmony. I had this video going with the sound of rain whilst operating on 15 meters cw. What a combination! 73 de Colin

So glad you got the rain you wanted, that's awesome!
There sure is nothing quite like the sound of rain on a tarp (or tent).
Dad & I had rain on the last trip out, LOVED it.
Of course I do prefer to have the tent pitched before the storm, but have had to pitch in the rain twice on overnighters.
It sure was a lovely view to wake up to.
First of all I was wondering where Elsa would sleep, and then I wondered about having her in the hammock; but I see the answer below.
Hope your wife Mandy is on the mend, and getting better.
    Thanks for sharing
    Cheers & atb

Wiltshire Man I'm looking forward to a proper winter. I've had enough of 40c+ summers and endless blue skies. If you tried sleeping out in a forest here you'd have to contend with snakes, clouds of mosquitos, ticks, spiders and a dozen species of aggressive ants, some an inch long with stings at one end and pinchers at the other!

I've spent many a night listening to the patter of rain on my tent and generally find it very pleasurable. There are exceptions, however, and ear-plugs are now part of my kit. There's an audible difference between a refreshing Summer shower and a Noahide deluge.

Sandy, I love your videos and the best ones of all are your solo camps. Your infectious enthusiasm for good 'ol English rain made me laugh out loud at the beginning and brought a smile to my face that lasted all the way through.
You manage to show us that the simplest of life's pleasures can bring joy and contentment if we have an open mind to savour the experience.
Good for you Mate - may the sweet rain, the breeze and the open air continue to refresh your spirit.

Loved this vid. The scene with ur little dog on lap with little fire and tarp / hammock is priceless. Cant beat hammock wild camp. Recommend changing lighter to clipper - flint wheel removable, so wen gas runs out can remove flint wheel and use to get sparks for fire. Positive healing thoughts to ur wife.

Enjoyed it Sandy, nice and relaxing... I always found tying a line between two trees and running the line through loop of the leash to let my dog have some running room to let them enjoy their time and keep them occupied while setting up and striking camp, just a tip I thought your furry children may enjoy... Have a Blessed one.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  10 лет назад +4

Ken, Thats cruel using bear as a pillow..Haa. Elsa uses me as a pillow. I must confess I do sleep better when she is not with me but she always knows when I am heading out. No matter how careful I am to go about the planning she knows. I even packed my kit in the car once on the evening before I went out. The next day when I opened the door she ran straight for the car and waited. She never does that normally?

Hi Sandy, Its truly great to be out in the rain. I was going to go out on my first solo over nighter this week but I've had one of those weeks where nothing has gone how you expect it to, so I'm looking at some time next week fingers crossed. Looks like we may have some bad weather coming in next week so I will have to pick my time as I have a four mile walk to where I intend to camp, then four miles back again, don't fancy the walk if its pooring down but its fie under the tarp. I'll let you know how it goes

Maybe a nice tip in regard to the firewood storage for the next (few) day(s): Putting the sticks in stove byte size into a burlap sack and hang it under your tarp will dry out the wood even more if need be and keep it out of the way.

There needs to be more people making camping vids in the rain. They are so cozy and i just love the rain so much and being out in it. Without the time or money i at least get some joy out of people like this making vids. Please more rain videos!!! And love the ones that bring their dogs too!

Niiiice! There is a dent in the rain gutter just outside my bedroom window so the water rushes out and hit's the cement walkway when it rain's. I sleep like a log and look forward to the afternoon rain's in the summer here. I hope your recording came out like you were hoping. I saw your video of the weekend with the guys. Sure looked like you all were having fun and the resulting blades will hold the memories for years. ATB to you and yours, Louise :)

The funky weekend was great. I love to camp in the rain so long as I can stay warm and dry.

Best wishes to you and your wife Sandy, i guess she's passed the danger period now (even though her recovery is taking time). I've gotta have that very same Op soon, broke my ankle on a motorcycle years back, its rotten with Arthritis now and needs replacing, also have a history of blood clotting after ankle Ops, (never mind). Anyway another fine vid, thanks.

Good luck with the ankle James. If they know the history they will use anti coagulants from day 1 I guess. Many's ankle is mending now but she still needs crutches and can't walk far

I do enjoy your videos friend. They seem to to really capture the feel and ethos of wild camping in Britain . I also live in Wiltshire and very much enjoy the countryside here.
