Pau's brutal "F You" to her critics and haters in the Mexican media for singing in English. They were called Malanchistas or cultural traitors. Definitely NOT a plea for acceptance, but laughing at their critics while telling them the Warning will do it THEIR WAY! Beto Ramos is her drum instructor and mentor. Great reaction, thanks. Also see this song at Foro DiDi to see Pau's passionate face expressions.

Beto Ramos is Pau's long-time drum coach. During this concert each of them brought on a musical mentor to play with the band. Usually Pau sings this from behind the kit. But she does come out once in a while. A couple times Arejay Hale played drums when they toured with Halestorm. When they toured in Philly last May, one of their techs played drums and let Pau loose.
This song is a big FU, in a language the critics can understand, to the haters in Mexico who said they not authentic since they sing their songs in English rather than their native tongue. You call us Malanchista? Let me 'splain this to you in a language you can understand.

Yes, as someone already pointed out, she normally sings this song while drumming, as she does, but come on, you need to put her upfront at times, she is a killer frontwoman and you can see how much fun they are having. The camera shot of the three upfront is priceless!
La "Malinche" is a historic character, she was a woman gifted as a "slave" to Hernán Cortés (Spanish conqueror of the later called Nueva España), she was a polyglot from several native languages and dialects, who also learned Spanish and was a vital part helping Hernan Cortés with the conquest of Mexico as a translator, so to be called a "MALINCHISTA", is to be a traitor (or sold out) of/to the Mexican culture. La Malinche is quite an interesting character of our Mexican History.

I still like best the original live performance from Foro Didi Monterrey. People have already explained the "why" of this song, but Pau's delivery of the vocal from behind the drums leaves you in no doubt at all (as someone who doesn't speak Spanish) how she feels about the subject.
Fun fact (as Pau often says herself): Despite it being in their native language, Pau wrote the original lyrics, showed them to her mother who commented that they didn't make sense (she was so used to writing lyrics in the form of English phrases) and Mum basically went through them with her and made the Spanish grammatically correct.

On the bright side, Ale is perfectly happy with that…but she’s the secret ingredient. Always has been.

Pau needs a twin sister, so one could play the drums and the other work the audience from the front of the stage. As it is, she's the beating heart of the band in many ways. Drummer, arranger, lyricist, and the one who manages the band's sophisticated electronics. BRAVO, PAU!!!
Any good band has a support system and crew. All of the members have tutors on their instruments. In addition to that they have drum and guitar techs (you'll notice how often Dany switches guitars and how often someone runs out to help secure Pau's drum set). I'm not sure if the techs double as roadies, but their manager, Rudy, seems to be omnipresent as well. It's not just three girls. Any band at their level operates at a similar level.

I had to look up "malinchista" when I first heard the song. The word doesn't directly translate to English. As I understand it, it's a pejorative for someone who throws over their [Mexican] culture & heritage in favor of another culture. The band apparently caught a lot of flack for writing & performing songs in English instead of Spanish.
This was their first Spanish song & was basically a F*ck You to the critics.

    *Narcisista Backstory:*
Pau usually sings lead playing drums. This single (not on any album) came out months after they released *Queen of the Murder Scene* album.
Their first time playingthis song live was a *Foro Didi in Monterrey, MX fall of 2018.* The ssecond show where The Warning played the full album *Queen of the Murder Scene* album in it's entirely (but not in chronological order).
The first guest to play on *Narcisista* was guitarist Jay de la Cueva at the Mercury Lounge (NYC) 2019.
Halestorm drummer Arejay filled in for Pau during their last opening show for Halestorm. Two techs filled in for Pau during their *Mayday* Tours. Metropolitan was the first someone filled in for Pau so she could lead her sisters.
    Now you know some backstory.

It is to address critics in Mexico that got on them because they do most of their songs in English. So, this is their rebuttal to that criticism. They are saying, in essence, Go ahead and criticize me more, we just laugh at you and say, Na Na Na.... We are not Narcissists or "Malanchista" (A Mexican word going back to Aztec times, meaning to be a cultural traitor). The drummer is Beto Ramos, Pau's drum teacher, BTW. Beto was also the sound mixer and sound master for this concert... he and Pablo González Sarre (see below) were also members of the band _Los Claxons_ , a Mexican pop rock band from DPA/TW's hometown of Monterrey, Mexico...
some other guest musicians have been:
    - Pliego Villarreal (no relation to DPA but they do call him cousin and/or Primo)
    - Pablo González Sarre (Ale's bass coach and band mentor)
    - Arejay Hale (Halestorm drummer)
    - Barry Stock (Three Days Grace lead guitar)
DPA/TW have also shared the stage with other bands like Moderatto, a Mexican "'80s Glam Metal" parody band from Mexico City and Eruca Sativa, an Argentine alternative rock band...

The song is about them not listening to Mexican media saying they are sellouts to their heritage because they sing mostly in English.

Beto added a little “flair” to the drum part compared to what Pau normally plays while singing and drumming this song.
Why wouldn’t you? It’s a big stage for Beto as well and I’m sure he was encouraged to do so.
Look up Beto Ramos on the internet, he’s quite an accomplished drummer and producer and is credited with being the Sound Mixer & Master for this Teatro Metropolitan production.
DPA has had many mentors over their careers and it seemed very important for them to share the spotlight with those that believed in them in the early years and made huge contributions to the band with their expertise.
Speaking of Ale, there are a few videos floating around with her doing lessons with Pablo when she was young and they are very interesting.
There’s also a video out there with Dany when she was young with a guitar teacher playing yellow submarine that is hilarious.

This song was in response to critics complaining about them doing all their songs in English and calling them cultural traitors. It is an F U to their critics in Spanish. Mony(mama) was a ghost writer on this song. 😉 edit Beto Ramos is the reason Pau is such a great drummer he took her in when no one else would teach her and has been there for the band since.

I have seen several different versions of the song, some w her behind the kit and others where she is out front.
I don’t think she ever will but she could absolutely do a Phil Collins and come out front as a solo artist. She has all the talent.

I love this song. I had to look up the meaning of malinchista which can be a very derogatory term. The song made more sense to me when I discovered that.

I think the 'na na na na na na na na" bit is more like "blah blah blah, whatever" - like the adults in the old Charlie Brown TV specials. The critics are saying things that have no relevance. It's just background noise.

This is hugely fun. But you *gotta* see a live performance with Pau singing behind the drum kit, it's a blast. She does all the hand movements and stuff. This song made me look up the origin of the uniquely Mexican insult "malinchista" - involves the Nahuatl woman known as "La Malinche" who was essentially sold to Cortés to act as a translator and assistant in his war against the Aztecs (in which the Nahuatl were allies). She ended up having a child with Cortés and marrying one of lieutenants before disappearing from the historical record. Her reputation in Mexico has oscillated over the years: sometimes she is seen as victim or symbol of survival under the colonial domination - sometimes she's seen as a traitor who betrayed the native people (thus the insult). Anyway in Mexico this is a very serious insult, it appears, and this song is their angry reaction to it. Underneath the sarcasm is an undercurrent of rage (and that's there a lot in their music, gotta say).

You've got the gist of it exactly correct, IMHO. Some have said this is pretty biting sarcasm... but to me Pau was going pretty easy on them. "Them" being basically a couple of newspaper commentators criticizing the band for ignoring Spanish in favor of English lyrics. Apparently, one of them went so far as (at least vaguely) accusing them of being "malinchista" which is apparently what really tripped Pau's trigger.
I don't know the details, but whomever wrote that clearly didn't understand how planet-wide music industry *works* , or the character, upbringing, education and nature of the sisters themselves. I won't say she's "a slow fuse"... depends on the circumstances - but this accusation clearly just, well, pissed her off. This whole family and crew are very proud of their Mexican nationality, and deservedly so. And she was having none of it. Thus this tune.
Again, I first read the translations people were putting out, and then their explanations of the circumstances... and my opinion was that the sarcasm in this tune was kind of astonishing subtle (from a "coarse American" perspective) in most cases. She could have been a LOT more explicit and harsh, but restrained herself (or, her mom talked her into being more restrained - probably a combination of both.) At any rate, it all wound up in this most amazing of tunes, and is still a major favorite of mine. Perhaps ranked second or third... but it's always hard to tell with a band who's "most favorite tune is the one I last heard".

*Scary Thought:* An reactor could react to 3 different Warning videos a day. Everyday for the next year. In one year. That reactor would not react to the same video in that year. Maybe the same song several times. But not the same video.
Scary part is you got 2 more years of that to go & counting.
Truth is The Warning is over saturated with content on RUclips than any other band on RUclips. Their channel, reactors & fan made.
    Yet.
They don't feel like they're over saturated.

@@zack_reacts Exactly ! And that’s why unfortunately a lot of very good Mexican (and Latin American) bands haven’t succeeded internationally, cause they only sing in Spanish and their fame gets limited to the American continent and maybe Spain and very few other countries.
The huge impact that TW is having worldwide is of course their talent but also because they are singing in English so that way they can reach a wider audience.
I’m 100 % sure they will be the most important rock band to come out of Mexico (and probably Latin America) - if they aren’t already
