You do if you wanted them to last.. large motor equals larger power but i do believe you.. you can have deep bass and good sound with out 900 dollar speakers..just don't over power them or you will regret it ..I couldn't find recone kits for my kicker cvr 15s sold to the public.

My 15" DB drives are 3000 rms watts. Max 6000. Max doesnt mean anything other than it will, on occasion every now and again will hit 6000 watts. Rms watts is what you're getting constantly. In short, the bigger the motor the more rms watts you're able to push without "blowing" your subs

I don't know the price of the subs versus the amount of sound .BUT. I like kicker used to have an all kicker system in to 90s(six d20 tweeters two 3.5 mid tweeter two 5.25 , two 6.5 two 8s and two 18s all in the cab of an s10 pickup) but I can get the same bass out of audiopipe for 1/2 the price.. the amount of subs and a good solid build like this is what is making this exciting to watch. Kicker makes great stuff but so does almost everyone else and the market needs the price to be in the normal range not inflated do to name. I Had a dd 2500w amp on 2 kicker 15cvr didn't last to long went out with a bang. amp and all being blown in a sec . My point being is power handling is something there speakers can't do up to this point.. I wonder if he blows these on a regular basis ..please comment because maybe I'm wrong but I really can't compare sound quality over loudness and kicker is quality but and a higher price .but you can't make a 1000 watt speaker perform like a 2500 watt speaker for the same price..and if you could then you could make that 2500 watt speaker sound even better with that same set up..
As far as i know, their L7 is really the only noteworthy thing they have and those, as you said, are on the pricey side for what they are. I rand some of their round Solo Barics in the 90s and loved them but they just sort of stagnated. I never cared for the square shape made to try to lock you in to their gear. It also adds a point of failure and uneven stresses on the speaker. They sound great but when you blow one and want to change up, you will need a whole new enclosure or at least a new baffle so you get stuck with them unless you want to overhaul everything. I was out of car audio for 10 or 15 years and was disappointed when I got back in to it to see kicker pretty much doing what they were doing back then. They have stagnated and mostly run on their old glory. Fosgate hasn't done much better. Still respectable but not something I would probably never even consider getting.
