They're telling the truth. No one sinks money into a house, moves their family, etc and a mere 28 days later flees. They couldn't possibly have made enough money in 28 days to merit fleeing a damn house, belongings, etc for a bunch of bs, money and inconvenience

I just watched my amityville horror , Daniel Lutz sounds like a credible human being he's articulate and on point about his account of what happened
I just watched it myself. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy. You can see he was severely traumatized through his whole life as a result of this and other abuses.
Haunted or not, there's NO WAY that kind of murder can take place in the house without there being something felt from it.

One of the reporters Joel Martin said in a radio interview that there was some mysterious deaths with the new owners but they didn’t want to share it as they didn’t want the publicity.
I remember reading somewhere or hearing on another video that there was activity in the house prior to the Defeo murders. That the father tried to have an exorcism done in the house 6 months before the family was murdered. Don't know if it's true....just remember hearing it somewhere.

I absolutely believe the Lutzs, for the record, they passed the lie detector test. Secondly, since new owners don't report anything doesn't mean it didn't occur. Lastly, I used to live in a house where things happened only a few times then never occurred again.

It's hard to get a body language read on either them or the Warren's during interviews because they don't shake their heads yes or no that prominently during questions. Or they appear to lie about things that are inconsequential

I AGREE. I BELIEVE WHAT THE LUTZ'S SAID ABOUT THE HOUSE BEING HAUNTED THEY WENT TO THEIR GRAVES SAYING THAT IT WAS TRUE AND THEY PASSED EVERY LIE DETECTOR TEST THEY WERE GIVEN. SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE ATHEISTS WILL SAY THAT IT IS A HOAX AND THE REASON IS THAT IF THEY SAY IT IS NOT A HOAX THEY ARE SAYING THAT THERE IS A DEVIL SO IF THERE IS A DEVIL THERE IS A GOD THEY WOULD BE ADMITTING THAT THEY BELIEVE IN GOD TOO ED WARREN SAID THAT IN AN INTERVIEW AND HE IS RIGHT. George lutz looks kinda like Ronald Defoe
Yeh it is creepy cause they had the same beard and hairdo back then. It was even talked about in the first moive the resemblence. Then when the Cromarties took it over Mr. Cromerty kind of resembled Mr. DEFEO senior a little the body type. Mr. O NEILL LOoked like Ronnie with beard, no one seen what Brain Wilson looked like.

He was mad bc they would not work with him. and the attorney was mad bc he didn't get the contract to make money. It may not have been a haunting in the house, it could have been a Poltergeist attracted to the family. the lies were told by others! Highly doubt the Lutz family would literally be scrutinized by the media and public for years and loose all that invested.
Bad energy does come from bad locations which also causes cancers, so kathy lutz lived out her words to the grave, unfortunately. RIP
The Cromarties bought the house and got their cut. The lawsuit is why they moved in.

The funny part is that now the boys are stating that yes, everything happened, but it's all George's fault. I wonder. What are they getting out of saying the house was haunted. Besides a chance to blame George for it.
Its a tough one. They moved in after those horrific events of the murderers with all that trauma and defeos spirits probably might still realize they are not dead and resented these new people moving in right away. But Ronnie defeo only one still alive but his story has changed a bit. I believe they might have experienced something extreme. A door portal could have been opened at some point Based on strife in a family. The house passed through several families before defeos moved in some event has occurred. I think i read someone might have died in that house of old age somewhere around the 1920s. The Rileys got divorced in the house in 1965 one of there daughters Christine Riley Belford became an actress in Hollywood she grew up in the house married Nick Pryor an actor who was in the Omen another cursed films she was in the moive Christine talk about paranormal weirdness. It is beautiful home with all the fixing up its been through though invasion of tourists must be difficult to live with. The Cromarties they lived 10 years there moved because of invasion of privacy i also read one of there sons died of a drug overdose in the home. The O'Neills there eldest son died in 911 attacks they moved out of the house in 1997 4 years before that 911 tragic event. A few of investigators of the home have died from heart attacks after trying to unmask the home. So hmm they say the devil will try to stop what you are doing to unmask him. I wish i had the money to purchase such a pretty home and live there search for the ghosts lol but yeh it would weight alot on my mind with such a tragic event occur but yeh i might be afraid too.
That lawyer seems like a slime ball. How in the hell does the kaplan lady or the lawyer know it wasnt haunted. What are they basing their opinions on. Steven kaplan was a "parasychologist" but a skeptic. That dont make any sence

I don't believe their story about the house being haunted, but who knows. The facts about the murders of the DeFeo family are more interesting than the whole haunted aspect of the house.

Most of the furniture came with the house after the Defeo family was dead.
Because what they were making off telling their bullshit story was worth more than anything they had in the house
28 days maybe they did see something that scared them. Or yeh they got themselves so deep financially in the house they could not stay who knows. But to abandon some of there possessions who knows. It creepy enough that the kids slept in the beds esp the little girl that they died in Missy had Dawns bed in her room. But as George said he did no one had a problem with it at first.

Ed and Lorraine entered the house and claimed particular things that occurred, as well as a priest who simply came to bless the house. So they are liars as well I'm assuming..

Also the atmosphere from the murders made it creepy too so that didn't help...

this story was long time ago any way I think the real horror here when ronald Defoe murder his whole family cold blooded with a gun with the lutz family maybe they did experience something who knows I wasn't there so I can't really say.

May have annoyed subsequent owners who, for some strange reason, actually thought it would be a good idea to buy that house. Other than that, I don't see who was hurt as a result of the book's success. Sure, it was almost certainly a hoax, but I would still congratulate George and Kathy for providing us with an entertaining yarn that still sparks interesting debate.

@allanro28 There's too many inconsistencies, inaccuracies and flat out contradictions in the storie(s) to accept the Lutzes' account of what happened. Whatever really went down at 112 Ocean Avenue, the 'ghost stories' started and ended with them and them alone.
