    A tip after just finishing my 2007 TL... If you find that the belt slips off pulley X while you are trying to get it onto pulley Y, use a bungee cord (with large hooks) to hold some mild tension on the belt while threading it.

    My 2004 TL spent it's first 12 winters in Chicago salty slush. The belt on my car failed because the alternator bearings froze. So the worst part of this job for me was also replacing the alternator. After the bolts were removed the alternator would not budge from between the two lugs that hold it in place at the bottom. It would rock back and forth about 15 degrees and that was it. It took quite a while to work it out, and more effort than this 76 year old could easily expend. Every bolt was a chore. The most difficult was the one at the bottom of the tensioner. It was difficult to reach and to get a socket on. The great fear was rounding off the bolt head.
    Removing the passenger front wheel and lifting the splash guard out of the way made this bolt sooooo much easier to remove, including the time it took to remove the wheel.
    As others have suggested, definitely replace the tensioner if you're replacing the belt. The complete kit from Rock Auto was around $65.

      I feel your pain. Every bolt on my moms 2007 tl is a chore & impossible to come off as well as very hard to reach. Opposite case w/ my c207 chassis Mercedes where everything is designed to be serviced, so there's always working room & I haven't dealt with a fussy bolt yet

    Really helpful i did it. I only used a 14 mm wrench and a wood stick to put the belt back in place

    Hey for my 06 TL, the belt doesn’t stay in the center of the Belt Tensioner when i turn on the car and then off, the belt goes almost out of the belt tensioner. Any idea what could be?

  • @mqeqeshe1
    @mqeqeshe1 6 лет назад +3

    You really should replace the idler/tensioner pulleys while you're at it. The bearings usually don't last too much longer than the belt itself, and if a bearing goes out you'll be replacing the belt again on the side of the road.

    how tight do you have to tighten the belt to ? any required torque specs ? or can i just tighten till it feels tight and snug ?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  6 лет назад +4

      There really isn't a torque spec. Tight and snug is good. Thanks for watching!

    i have an issue when i keep having to replace my
    belt because it ends up squealing a lot and shortly after a brand new belt . Any tips on what it could be ? i’ve gone thru 4 belts over 1 year and i repaired my pulley system but it still doesn’t seem to do anything

      having similar problems, it could be your power steering pump which is the highest positioned pulley

  • @b16crxt
    @b16crxt 7 лет назад +3

    what would cause the belt to align at the outer edge of the tension pulley and squeal at low RPM?

    • @lollmao9199
      @lollmao9199 5 лет назад +1

      SC CRXER in sever cases pulleys tend to swivel causing minor side to side belt movenet causing squeal at low rpm , but make sure belt is alignt properly in all slots

    Do the alternator have to be loose to put the belt on?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  5 лет назад +1

      Nope, because this is a serpentine belt system and you just need to relief the tensioner. Thanks for watching!

  • @eduardoturcios8201
    @eduardoturcios8201 7 лет назад +1

    how much tension do you apply?

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  7 лет назад +3

      On the belt tensioner to relieve tension to get the belt off? Quite a bit, I used my arm muscles instead of my wrist like I usually do to take bolts off.

    This is not an easy job. If someone says so, then they must know tricks that I don't. On my 2008 TL, I ended up jacking up the front passenger side, removing the wheel, removing the splash guard to gain access to the crankshaft pulley and route the belt around it. I could not reach down from the top to get to it. Even then, it's a pain to get the belt on all of the pulleys at once. Perhaps it's a 2 person job just to have someone to hold the belt or hold the tensioner.

      I never done it before. Do you think removing the front bumper could also help in a way too? Sorry if that sounds dumb lol.. also because I don't mind taking it off because I have done it comfortably so many times now (removing front bumper).
