I would add lacking focus on 3rd party support in comparison to Sony (COD, Destiny, SW:BF, RDR2 etc.) to the list. Microsoft has become a lot less aggressive with 3rd party this generation, when during the 360’s run they practically controlled and had dibs on everything.
Well for me was liberating all games on Windows 10. Why do I need an Xbox One when my PC that had a higher initial cost does everything much better? Free online, cheaper games, Xbox games, Gamepass, all on PC. Another reason is that while Sony always had ALL third party (and secondy party) releases. Early on the Xbox One was (and is still missing many of these) Yakuza, Nioh, Street Fighter 5, Nier Automata, God Eater, Detroit Become Human, Ni Nu Kuni 2, etc. I mean Japanese developers had more respect for the 360 back then, it's like Microsoft cut the bridges with all of them this generation. Phil had to beg to get Yakuza and Kingdom Hearts on the Xbox One. Why would I want such a messy platform like this? It can't guarantee me access to all third party games and releases all they have - games and services - on the PC.

@@lxldeviouslxl Well, the problem with buying physical copies these days is that you have to then connect to the online servers and download the 50GB Day One Update. Now, if we're talking 360 and PS3 games, I was buying them up until last year, when moving interstate blew a large hole in my bank account.
lxldeviouslxl Imagine paying 300 bucks for an Xbox, 180 for an extra controller and two games, and 30 bucks for internet every month only to have a notification pop up when launching a SINGLE PLAYER game saying “this game requires you to be online”. When I’m playing the Witcher, Dark Souls, Fallout, Skyrim, or Fallen Order the Xbox becomes an expensive paperweight every time the internet cuts out. I own a house in a beautiful beachside neighborhood so I can always go surf and kick back at the beach for a few hours until the internet kicks back on, but if I lived in the states in some boring town I’d be pretty pissed. And used physical copies of games run like 10 bucks at the GameStop here, so why the fuck would I pay $60 for the same thing? No offense dude but you come across like a spoiled teen who got his Xbox for Christmas a couple years ago and is completely out of touch with what a struggle life is when you don’t have much money. I’m here struggling to make ends meet with a car payment, insurance, food (which is really expensive here in Hawaii), and random shit that needs replacing like the water pump to my house that went out a couple months ago and cost me about $300 to replace, which I had to look up RUclips tutorials on how to replace it myself because there is no way I could afford to pay a plumber. I had no running water in my house for that entire time. My Toyota also needs a new strut on the passenger side, so I’m looking at another $200 just for that. I also like to take my girl out on a movie date once or twice a month, that’s expensive as fuck. So yeah I’m gonna find every way I can to get games as cheap as I possibly can. People like you that literally have shit handed to them and act like life is such a breeze with dumb comments like “who even games offline in 2020” or “ what kind of moron buys physical copies anymore” are completely out of touch with the struggle of living paycheck to paycheck with zero financial help can honestly kiss my ass. I’m blessed enough to have had my dad sign his house over to me before he passed away, I don’t think I could make it otherwise when the average cost of rent out here is $1200 dollars a month. And now I have my little brother moved in with me because his parents dropped the ball and couldn’t even get him to finish high school and weren’t feeding him everyday and basically neglected him so I have TWO mouths to feed, and I already eat allot since I have a high metabolism and have to struggle to keep muscle on so I can paddle outrigger canoes with Hui Wa’a o Waiākea, the canoe club here in Hilo. The struggle is real out here “brah”.

Library transferring from the previous generation helps transition on the new one at the beginning because the flux of new games is low, but is not a major sales driving force (and PS5 will have with PS4 at least). And Sony should expand their backwards compatibility in the future, but it probably is tied too their PSNow strategy, so their arent talking about it yet.

Also kinda sad considering that Xbox Series S/X and Playstation 5 always claim that their games are "exclusive" only on their platform only to find out that those same exact "exclusive" games are on PC now don't get me wrong I hate exclusive games on any platform especially Xbox and Playstation because they can actually be good games that I feel anyone should be able to enjoy but for Playstation and Xbox to advertise that their games are only exclusive on their platforms only to then port those exclusive games over to PC is quite frankly just making their platforms pointless. Because why buy their consoles when you could just buy their exclusive games on PC and play it on that platform then compared to buying the exclusive games on their platform and playing those games on their platform?
You're clearly just copying a popular comment from some other place and using that for likes. It's utterly pointless. Do you gain happiness from gaining likes for things you didn't create? I think the PS2 was so popular because it was a DVD player that could play games. It costed as much as a DVD player did in 2000. With the ridiculous amount of people buying the PS2, Sony had the budget and insurance of fan loyalty to go full force on exclusives.

I remember my childhood being filled with joy and entertainment just by the Original Xbox. I never had internet at home, and I didn't have the DVD kit to play DVD's on the Xbox. All I had was the console, many games, and the controller in my hand to take me to an adventure I was excited. The Spider-Man Movie The Game was the first game I remember playing, and it was amazing just swinging through the city, and playing the story of the movie (for half the game). But when it came to Halo 2, it was the best game I ever played when I was young. After my Xbox died, I got a PS3 for my birthday and I was happy to have it. Now, I have a PS4. I love both these consoles, but I always wanted a 360 and later the Xbox One. Sadly, most of my friends just can't stand Xbox players, systems, or anything related to Xbox. I grew up playing Xbox, but later Playstation. But I'll never forget what made me get into games in the first place, and where I came from. This is why no matter what, I'll never forget that the Xbox was a system that brought me and millions joy in our lives. And I believe Microsoft can do it again. Not just to those who grew up or enjoyed any of the Xbox Systems, but also to new comers who are willing to try Microsoft's systems. That's what I would like and that's what I hope Series X is capable of doing.
@Naquin Green I'm pretty worried about the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, but I'm confident they'll get things right and will both be good consoles. I'm sorta worried about the power, but I prefer them focusing what can they do when said power and see if they can expand it, or lessen it. You don't need the most powerful console to have a great experience. Just you, your controller, and the fun, the challenge, the plot, the characters, the adventure, and the immersion of the game. That's what I hope they focus. If they do that, then I hope everyone can be happy with the console (Or PC) of their choosing. I support all platforms

As a long time Pre-EOC and now EOC player i will say that the start of EOC was perhaps the biggest miss step in gaming history considering how big Runescape was at the time. I will say though that nowadays, for the last 6 years that i have been playing it, they actually made it work. It may not look at the same target audience anymore, but that is not realistic. Back then we were all 8-14 years old and those who still play are now in their 20's or older. I enjoy it and i enjoy osrs but i think RS3 gets too much hate for the game that it currently is which in mu opinion, even with its flaws is amazing. I really think Sega had a HUGE hand in giving the original Xbox a ton of unique games especially Sega of that Era. A lot of those cool Japanese games like Jet Set Radio Future Perfect were originally planned Dreamcast games and when the dreamcast flopped. @Naquin Green Cortana was always going to die, yknow that 7 year lifespan? The mistake was not letting her stay dead in 5. Of all the mistakes in 4, that was not one. Killing her and seeing the effect it had on chief's psyche was one of the few good things about the game.
If you ask me personally, I think are fault there. I mean, since Halo was the killer app for the OG Xbox, and how we couldn't get enough of it throughout the years, it came and bit us in the ass. Some exclusives here and there, but fans wanting Halo. Which is why it has been on the Xbox brand had been on the decline.
Yeah that is absolutely false. Exclusives generate competition between companies with the goal of pushing the envelope while striving to outdo and one up each other with quality AAA games. That in turn leads to better products and more choice when it comes to the customers. But hey if you'd like your no exclusive dystopia then you'd better be prepared to enjoy a stagnant, stale, and a never evolving string of uninspired games.

I agree, there's nothing particularly wrong with the Xbox One, just everything it was supposed to make use of. The UI is better by magnitudes and so is the ergonomics of their controllers. The only things Xbox needs is good exclusives again, that and maybe better quality parts for their controllers, my Xbox Elite controller lost it's rubber grip panels within 1 year of sporadic use and just last night my LB broke and flops back and forth. It also seems to have the same analog sticks as regular controllers, they wear out in around the same time under the same level of use. A $120 dollar controller shouldn't have those problems.
@@Ronbrg Yeah, I only bought it because I expected a better product, I definitely won't be buying another one. Despite the offerings to come, the focus will be about these being on GamePass and being a great value to the service. MS has fans rooting for the company's ledger rather than the games. That's the new Xbox identity.
I love how you have the Gauntlet Legends music in the background. Reminding me of how awesome the Xbox brand was. Just like the Gauntlet series was. But also reminding me of how Legends was a send-off for that franchise done right while the xb1 feels like Microsoft is running out of steam.
Ever since Phil Spencer took over ever move MS has made has been improving the brand. The Outer Worlds was critically successful. Crossplay becoming more common and this new console looks to be a true leap in tech. I have high hopes for the Xbox. Though if all the games are coming to PC as well then I'll be sticking with PC lol
You see, that's ultimately a win/win. Whether someone commits to xbox series X or sticks to PC, they are still on the same team. And *cross-platform* is a good innovation for all gamers going forward but Microsoft can (and will) benefit from this more than the others as long as they don't lose sight of the direction they are now *finally* going.
It’s really interesting how the goal posts have shifted this generation. When Microsoft has the most powerful console now suddenly people don’t care about power when in 2013 all you heard about was how the ps4 could do 1080p and how the Xbox only did 900p despite the huge frame rate dropping issues on ps4 at the time. It’s just interesting to see people overstate Xbox problems in some areas and undersell ps4 problems in others based off how they feel or what matters most to them, but it’s also interesting to see those things constantly changing the moment Xbox does something people had been clamoring for for ages.
You did not even watch the full video He said that Xbox only has power but its not something that gamers care that much about and care more about exclusives and great games Power is just icing on the cake But xbox dosent have that "cake"
To be fair, until halfway through this generation the only thing the two had to differentiate from eachother WAS power. If the exclusives are minimal/not great/available on old hardware, what can you talk about beyond power and how pretty it makes a game look?
Cheese and rice... it's *Jason Borne* but on Xbox one Z+MegaUltraX69 you get 5 MORE pixels for just 800 MEASLEY dollars! (Not including the online service or anything but the console)

@@lifeisshørt_420 because more and more people use an online connection to connect to other players. With less and less people actually using split screen, they decided it wasn't worth working on. @@supremehare9893 Did they add it with both new xboxs and ps5 or is it also for xbox 1 and ps4? i have both last gen consoles and i haven’t played on them for a while due to my internet shutting off and i haven’t been able to pay.
I was surprised and shocked when I saw you telling Microsoft to go attack the Japanese market, make games that appeals to us, I really appreciate that because it dose feel like Xbox has been neglecting us J-Box Boys, we have been feeling like characters from Mad max looking for water and it was probably worse here when it comes to games exclusivity, back when Overwatch was announced I honestly thought it would give the Japanese xbox community some more steam since a game like Overwatch seemed like a game Japanese people would play on xbox more then on a Playstation, but Sony bought exclusivity, in fact nearly all 3rd party games from outside of Japan has been a Sony exclusive aside from a handful of obvious titles. Fortnite was introduced to the xbox last in Japan, technically you could play it on the xbox but I think that was border line illegal?, you had to change your xbox nationality so you can download the game like a VPN, it was weird and you needed so much hooping to get something simple, I like the xbox for a lot of reasons, the people i met, the friends I made and I know for a fact I would not have had that with a Playstation, because up until recently, like I think late 2018 to early 2019, Playstation players in Japan, Did not connect with foreign countries, officially. I want the xbox to grow not just for nostalgia but to also see some steam in the games market, think about it, ever since sony and nintendo had been in the top stop, Japanese game companies have been lazy, not being productive, while American companies have been productive....but also greedy to the point that gamers are all getting ready to drop a nuke on everyone. With what i am seeing I honestly think the next gen will be good for xbox and gaming as a whole, I hope at least. and whatever happens I hope the trend of Japan being a few years late in the game wont get the PS5 nuked over a trillion times. *cough* PS5 wants a lot of micro transactions, even after all we have been through. *cough cough*
Windows 10 to be exact also pretty sure their aim is to broaden their audience for more cash flow. Very consumer friendly for those who have a xbox and a PC
@@ANewEvilRising Yeah I'm more than happy with them having the policy of releasing their first party games on Xbox and Windows. They own both platforms, they profit if the game sales on either. Makes sense to me. If it was cannibalizing Xbox sales they would have stopped it by now, and it makes sense that it hasn't. Someone wanting the simplicity and price point of a console isn't going to change their mind and buy (or esp build) a gaming PC just because gears and Halo is on Windows (I say this as someone who plays their games on PC and doesn't own a console). The problem is they don't have any CONSOLE exclusives that people really care about and haven't for a while. Meanwhile Sony has been doing quite well in that dept. But hopefully with the spending spree they went on buying studios like ninja theory, Obsidian etc we will see some worthwhile console exclusives for Xbox start getting announced in the next year or two.
@@sean8102 Xbox has always been ahead of things in term of PC, I can honestly see why they're kinda not really getting ahead with consoles. Sure, you'd think because that working on PCs it's that easy to make a console, and it probobly is, but when you're priority is to go forwards then backwards, I see why PC is their staple
I actually really like the fact that I can play Xbox games on my gaming laptop with an Xbox controller as opposed to just buying the console. Also Game pass is a brilliant idea, I can play gears with my friends for $5? Whatt
Although I think they're doing this because they want to please their current consumers that own their console right now because they know they're probably not going to sell more consoles than Sony or Nintendo at this point because of the crappy 2013 E3 reveal so they have to cater to their current consumer.
"It takes a lifetime to build a reputation, minutes to destroy it, and forever to rebuild it." Great video touching upon all the things that made the Xbox One fall from grace. I didn't even think about how Microsoft could've eliminated paying for XBL Gold as basically the PR equivalent of an Uno reverse card. There are a few things I'd like to point out, though... It seems that Microsoft isn't focusing on getting new exclusives for the Xbox One right now because they're licking their wounds and getting ready for the Xbox Series X - a new generation is a soft reset after all, and if Microsoft can secure exclusives for the XSX and put on a better show than Sony -(imo they're already off to a good start by not skipping e3),- they'll be able to start the next generation with a ton of momentum, rather than trying to squeeze a bit more out of the already-in-decline Xbox One. I'm willing to bet that Microsoft will blindside us with exclusives this E3 - or, I hope so... Anyhow, another thing to consider about exclusivity is that once the chips are already down, it becomes much harder to negotiate exclusivity deals, so it may not necessarily be Microsoft's fault that we're hardly seeing anything. The GameCube suffered a lot with regard to securing exclusive third-party titles; even when they did secure exclusives, like Capcom's promised five exclusive GameCube games, half were just ported to PS2 a year later, and a couple of them didn't even materialize. I also don't think advertising raw power is a bad thing on Microsoft's end - in fact, it seems to be their strong suit. After all, the original Xbox was the most powerful console of its time, so I feel like the Xbox One X kind of carries on that torch (think "No power greater than X"). Microsoft, having much deeper pockets, can afford to put more powerful and thus more expensive hardware in their consoles and then sell them at a loss. When it comes to it, having more power at a comparable price might just win a few extra buyers over. What irritates me as well is just how great quality-of-life is on Xbox One as well. I can't even take free cloud saves for granted, given that I have to pay my tribute to the Nintendo Switch Online mob, and I'm just outright risking it on PS4 because 80 canuck doubloons a year isn't worth it when the PS4 isn't even my main platform (can I just pick and choose what services I want to pay for, so I can pay less?). Backwards compatibility with enhancements is really cool as well - playing the original RDR in 4K is quite the experience, and it feels a lot less cynical than Sony remastering old games. Yeah, it's great to see these games looking better than they've ever been, with new, modern amenities - but it'd be nice to at least have the option to play the original games for cheaper. Basically, I can sense that Microsoft is currently sowing the seeds to give the Xbox Series X a compelling platform to stand on by the time it launches - free cloud saves, the most backwards compatibility of any console in history, and other additions like Play Anywhere and Project XCloud make it look like the Xbox platform will be more tightly integrated than ever - and that's good, since Microsoft will need all the help they can get to bounce back next generation. It's ultimately all up to the games, I know. But I have faith that Phil Spencer and Major Nelson know that. And I have faith Microsoft will step up to E3 with a fresh plate of exclusives.
Brandon Ealey but Sony didn’t abandon the PS3 the same way Xbox abandoned the Xbox One. The Last of Us was still fresh in the minds of Sony fans when gen 8 hit. The Last of Us 2 might have the same effect with the coming generation.
Devenn Eng they still have very little to work with. Most the studios they’ve acquired were small indie studios. Their big win was Obsidian, but they could fuck that up by pushing for a faster development.

I would add lacking focus on 3rd party support in comparison to Sony (COD, Destiny, SW:BF, RDR2 etc.) to the list. Microsoft has become a lot less aggressive with 3rd party this generation, when during the 360’s run they practically controlled and had dibs on everything.
Xbox bringing it next gen tho, I doubt they pissed all that money away on studios to do nothing with them
Well for me was liberating all games on Windows 10.

@@lawnmowerdude doubt it, PS3 and PS4 didn`t had it and they managed just fine, as well the majority of Nintendo consoles. And its questionable if this was a major factor on the PS2 success. People buy new consoles to play new games, not old ones. Sure it`s cool but is not a deal breaker for the majority of people.

I specifically remember that Sony commercial back in 2013 when they presented the title "How to trade your ps4 game", and then they literally show the guy handing a physical game to the other guy in one second and everybody just went wild after that. We all knew it was done. Sony demolished Xbox that easy.
Fun fact: the two employees that were in the commercial are not in Sony anymore.
They were fired :/

@Naquin Green
I'm pretty worried about the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, but I'm confident they'll get things right and will both be good consoles.

Not gonna change my stance though. Never had any interest in any interest of the XBox and XBox 360 exclusives, and some it's excusives weren't real exclusives as quite a few were released on PC first, and I always had a pc with gaming capabilities. Moreover 360 didn't trully dominate it's generation, no. Xbox 360s won the first 2 years, because it was realeased much before the other 2 consoles, but as soon as Wii was released and PS3 became cheaper(main reason if not the only reason why it was losing to 360), both quickly overturned the ranking in the later years of the generation, with Nintendo easily taking the lead and PS3 above 360 by a bit. People love to dismiss PS3 japanese exclusive games(mostly JRPGS), but while they are niche games they have a solid, loyal fanbase. Moreover if you wanted a fighting game you went to Sony consoles.

I really think Sega had a HUGE hand in giving the original Xbox a ton of unique games especially Sega of that Era.
A lot of those cool Japanese games like Jet Set Radio Future Perfect were originally planned Dreamcast games and when the dreamcast flopped. Sega originally wanted the Xbox to be a spiritual successor to the dreamcast and offered backwards compatability with Dreamcast games.

Exclusives are bad. They limit user freedom to sell more products.
One of the things that the Xbox 1 uses to make me made is the achievments don't work offline at all. If I did the entire original MW3 campaign offline then I get none of the achievments associated with the missions. - 8 new exclusives coming this year
- A Console made for games
- A big push on the Asian market with games like Yakuza, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts finally coming to the Xbox.
The only extra features I used were swapping around the different joystick configurations, I never used or could find a use for the paddles and the double stage triggers leave a lot to be desired. I like how it feels sturdy, but it's just not. Making the high-wear parts irreplaceable was a bad design choice. Bumpers, triggers, grip panels, analog stick units, buttons, etc. should all be replaceable and controllers should be designed for maintenance. Not even close to being worth $120.

That xbox one reveal really put a huge dent on the xbox console. They fucked up so hard it’s crazy.
The outerworlds is trash. Fallout knockoff.
Good luck getting a PC as powerful as the series X anywhere close to $500-600
@@XBLHAX ?
@@stacybell7042 yeah you read that right.
You did not even watch the full video
He said that Xbox only has power but its not something that gamers care that much about and care more about exclusives and great games
Power is just icing on the cake
But xbox dosent have that "cake"
To be fair, until halfway through this generation the only thing the two had to differentiate from eachother WAS power. If the exclusives are minimal/not great/available on old hardware, what can you talk about beyond power and how pretty it makes a game look?
@Awakened Virtue soo yo say that there is a big conspiracy to destroy xbox.
@Awakened Virtue Like the average consumer gives a shit about that or knows what it means. Other things caused it.

@@lifeisshørt_420 screens are getting bigger and why can’t they make games that gets rid of that line in the middle?
When did they get rid of split screen that’s my question?
@@lifeisshørt_420 because more and more people use an online connection to connect to other players. With less and less people actually using split screen, they decided it wasn't worth working on. truly one of the greatest games of all time.
Hahaha you J-Boys should not be forgotten! Maybe Microsoft thought it was a waste of time because Xbox's have never sold too well there
To be fair, we've seen a lot more Japanese games over the past couple years making their way on to Xbox.
@@kevinlee6003 nier automata being a major example....maybe I should get it.
When Xbox gamers actually start buying Japanese games, maybe Microsoft will invest in making some.

Game pass.
They're moving us all over to pc.

"It takes a lifetime to build a reputation, minutes to destroy it, and forever to rebuild it."
Great video touching upon all the things that made the Xbox One fall from grace.
Sodapone Sony failed at least once so not forever to rebuild a rep more like 12 years
@@brandonR.E That's true, although Sony did rebuild the PS3's reputation more by the latter half of the console's life than the Xbox One did.
100% agee. I was gonna comment these things, but now I don't need to. Very well put, too.
