Which player do you think is better? Do you think Magnetar is a worthy successor to Oppo?
Well it has no rear IR input, which is a shame... I have a Panasonic UB-820, but for FHD Bluray and 3D Bluray i still use my OPPO 103-D (shame no others have ever had the Darby built in!)
I use the 103D for DVDs still. I'm debating between the Panasonic UB9000 or the 820 you have. Worth it for upscaling older discs?
UDP simply means Universal Disc Player. CD, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD, Blu-ray, UHD Blu-ray etc.
I love my oppo UDP 205 and it is sad to see oppo is no longer. Nice to see there is still people like Magnetar making quality HDR players. Great video btw.
Thank you!
The answer is the Magnetar is barely even to a 6 year old OPPO. The difference is the OPPO was $500 on release date and the Magentar is $1500 for zero performance improvement.
I thought this was a zapitti colab o.o
Also all these companies are so money hungry and they see people really want an oppo 205, it's a huge miss in the market to not remake it or a clone
Great unboxing, great testing and comparison. Sub-par UHD player is my takeaway.
Thanks! We’ll see when I actually start watching content with it in my theater. Its very hefty and well built and I think it will be a good player but we shall see if it can beat the Oppo
Hi there, great review, so in picture quality is there much difference in picture quality between the Magnetar 800 and the Oppo 203?, have you had a chance to have a look at the Magnetar 900, and put it against the Oppo 203 or Panasonic 9000, been told the Panasonic may have better picture performance. Thanks
I’d say the Magnetar has a slightly better image than the 203. Have not had a chance to review the 900 or the Panasonic 9000.
Great player. I adore the udp 900. Friend has it. Best player on the market. His audio system is remarkable too so the 900 really is the best. If expensive.
Not sure oppo is worth buying now as their support for their players is going. Amazed to see oppo 205 listed for so much on eBay. Seen a new unused one at 9,000
$1600 is just cray. I wish I would’ve known about the oppo when it was still being sold. I ended up getting the Panasonic 9000 instead 2 years ago
I use my Oppo 205 as a preamplifier. I have a Roku going to the HDMI-in and the analog 7.1 out is going to my amplifiers. The player does all of the decoding and I switch between disc and the Roku for all of our movie/streaming needs. It's a perfect solution for me.
Interesting setup. Noice!
@@hatoraidcowboy It works great!
I still have all my Oppo players and they can play discs that other players have problems with.
The quality of the laser and transport are critical, and this is where these more recent models
seem to be lacking, they work great when new, but not after the warranty expires.
Oppo players can still be repaired, what will you do when these Magnetar players stop working?
I love my BDP-105. It'll play anything and everything. I have .dsf and .dff (1 bit 2.8MHz DSD and DST files) music files, and they're played without a hitch. Perfect gapless playback on all audio file formats, including .dsf and .dff.
Tagging works like a charm, including album art. Browsing is pretty quick. Setting up the system is a breeze, and you can go down the rabbit hole as far as you want to.
I've got the XLR outputs set to FR and FL, and am feeding those and the remainder of the 7 channels directly into my power amp (Integra DTA-70.1). The .1 goes to the active subwoofer.
You can set individual volume levels for each speaker in the setup menu, and then the master volume simply controls the overall volume levels.
Upgrading to the UDP-205 has become expensive, but I'm still thinking about going that way. It's such a shame Oppo decided to move away from the audiophile market. If I'm upgrading to the UDP-205, I'll be using the BDP-105 as a dedicated DAC for my computer.
The options for the UDP-205 blow the Magnetar UDP900 out of the water. The inputs on the Oppo show that this is a serious piece of audio equipment. They have the confidence to say: Yeah, you're gonna want to use our hardware for the best possible audio quality. I run the HDMI from my STB directly into the Oppo, so the BDP-105 has basically become my pre-amp.
@@bloodymarvelous4790 I still have my BDP 103D and 105D and as you say they will play any disc or file format.
It was a shame that they pulled out of the market so soon after the 203 and 205 were released.
I hope you can find a 205 at a sensible price.
WHO repairs them ??? I can not find ANYONE qualified and I'm in NYC!
@@marcob.7801Good question, there are no repair agents in any country, shipping them back to China will cost a fortune.
But didn't you state that Oppo players can still be repaired???
Oppo seems to be the one to go for. One thing that's hard to test is resilience to skipping. My current player is super sensitive and it skips on quite a few of my UHD disks. Thanks for the review!
A full review of the Magnetar is coming 😃 Thanks for watching and chiming in! I’ll def look for any skipping issues
They don't make the Oppo anymore.
@dalemacdonald201 Nope but wanted to do a comparison for those who still own Oppo and looking to upgrade
@@hatoraidcowboy What upgrade? The Oppo is superior in every single way to the Magnetar.
Does it support Dolby Vision in an MKV container? The oppo supports mkv HDR but only HDR10.
It does not. I tried 3 movies and I only got HDR
According to the website, there is an update for HDR10+ via USB for OPPO player
Wow, they are still supporting the oppo? Will look for the update.
@@DefiantAMLI don’t know if it’s official or moded, but you can write HDR10+ firmware update for OPPO 203 model
Yea that update came out a while ago.
Glad I didn’t get rid of my 203 still the best on the market.
Yup, love my 203!
Panasonic UB9000. Best of the bunch as per HDTV test’s Vincent Teo. This includes the Oppo 203.
I’ve been trying to get my hands on a UB9000. Everyone loves them.
Hello, the Oppo has a trigger output. that's a great thing 2 have. because when you have 1 trigger in an AV and wanna listen 2 channel music (amplifed) then in the minijack chain the other amps go on also if you don't want it. But with this option in the Player the other amps can link up when wachting movies when needed! The Panasonic 9004 is great en we enjoy but it's for me a missing important option!
Since the Oppo has been discontinued, maybe you should have compared it to the Reavon UBR-X200? Will they send you one for review?
Nope, they wont send me one 😩 I reached out to them a long time ago.
@@hatoraidcowboy Magnetar UHD blu ray player $1599! Does it set itself up?
😂 Yea the price is steep.
@@hatoraidcowboy Maybe try again as Magnetar and Reavon now use the same distribution company here in the US.
i have
Magnetar UDP800 I'm trying to run an Arabic subtitle that doesn't work at all, not through usb For the external disk and not for internal files And I chose the Arabic language for subtitle?
I love my two OPPOs they are the best gear I have ever bought. They have lasted years. Only thing they don't do is 3D or streaming which is fine.
Idk 3D is sick if done right. Currently got a Sony XBR-65X850B, Oppo-203 , Arcam AVR FJM 850, Bowers and Wilkins 604 S3, 600 S3 series center with M-1 for surround(s), JL-E110, and what's called a Buttkicker. Absolute heaven 😍. I'd love to find a 75-inch 3D TV, but unless you're finding it locally, you're gonna pay through the tooth on shipping. I also think passive 3D TV's is much more enjoyable than watching off a TV that's designed for active 3d capability (it's just easier on the eyes). Idk I think I'm pretty lucky with what I got for a setup as I'm not a wealthy man, but I only got maybe 6k into this entire setup 😅. Heck ya, I'll buy rich people's stuff they barely used at a fraction of what it cost them originally.
Hi there are you getting the Magnetar UDP900 and do you have the Panasonic 9000 I’d love to see a comparison video between the two. I’ve just bought the UDP900 it’s a beast 33lb🎉
Hello! I may be able to request one eventually but I dont have one right now. It looks incredible though!
Jus, Tell me about the sound and video quality of MAGNETAR UDP-900? is it not freezing during the playback of 4K Ultra UHD Blu-ray vertical disc?
I told you you would get this unit in soon! :) What did you think of build quality and noise opening and closing the drawer? I saw a video 2 weeks ago on this unit and the tray/drawer sounded cheap when it was opened/closed... ?
I havent plugged it in yet. Lol I just got back from Dallas on Friday and filmed this real quick. I’ll have all that info in the next video for Magnetar. 😃
Are you getting the UDP 900 For review
Not that I know of, but I havent requested one either.
We want to see it on hand for review to know above the video and sound quality
Nice review especially on when the Magnetar freezes up. That’s good to know. Can you tell me the information on the great background music you used for this video?
It’s royalty free music from epidemic sound. I forget the name but I’ll look!
With Panasonic ub9000 so good at 1k and good reputation why would someone pay $2500 for Magnetar.
I have oppo 203 and pioneer elite LX500 both excellent players. Even oppo 205 was reasonable price. Extremely niche market they are selling to.
Cổng HDMI in trên Oppo để làm gì vậy bạn, thanks
You will not be able to replace the best, Oppo.
I bought a second hand oppo 105 and Panasonic UB820 4k player both superb and both bought for about an 1/5 of the price
That player is never worth that money they're taking the piss
7 years now my oppo 203 i have seen not yet one is beter then this one oppo 203. they are more money and do the same to muts money for this one. For me it was 850 euro 7 years ago. Iff he is not working anymore i see what i gone buy then. Now i have a good picture from oppo 203.
@hatoraidcowboy ---- I don't like the color/texture, needs more controls on front, and ports on back.
High quality Styrofoam? Really? Well, I guess I'll be buying it then. Nothing beats high quality Styrofoam.
Has anyone opened the Magnetar? Is it the oppo on the inside?
¿Cuál es la capacidad máxima de disco duro externo (conectado por el puerto USB 3.0) que admite este reproducctor Magnetar UDP800?

What is the maximum external hard disk drive capacity (connected via USB 3.0 port) that this Magnetar UDP800 player supports?
I believe it is 16 TB
@@hatoraidcowboy
Yes, I saw it on their website. 👍🏻
Well I hope it performs well, since it looks pretty average, if fact cheap. I have the Oppo UDP105D which is a great player so to upgrade, the UDP800 would need to be good. From the Oppo 105 there is the 203 with 4K and the 205 with 4K and upgraded audio, which can still be had on the used market, unfortunately not cheap.
Definitely not cheap!
Will this company be up to firmware updates.
I’m pretty sure they will but I can ask.
Does any of these players
Play PAL into NTSC DVD’s?
Not sure.
@@hatoraidcowboy how can I know
I would contact Magnetar. Oppo’s are manufactured anymore
@@hatoraidcowboy please
Yes, they will play both PAL and NTSC. Your TV should be able to automatically recognize the format.
You can also set the player to 3:2 pulldown if your TV doesn't support native 24p playback.
Region coding is a different story though. You won't be able to play Region 1 DVD's on a Region 2 player (and vice versa). Same goes for Blu-ray Region A on a Region B player (and vice versa).
Oppo has mythical status. No player will ever be able to compete. It would take unrealistic player that does everything the Oppo 205 did and a faster Zappiti like interface for network files all for less than $100 to break that myth. A better more useful comparison would be for the players a consumer can purchase new. How does the Magnetar compare to the Reavon X200 for the same kind of money and the top of the line Panasonic UB9000. What are the advantages to going to one of these players at these price points over the lower priced alternatives. That is what is beneficial to viewers that are not in the know. The constant comparisons to Oppo is not good since the only way to get them is used at who knows what kind of condition. If I could get a brand new Oppo for a couple hundred more than the Magnetar I would, but I can't The newest one I can get is 5 years old as they stopped making in 2018.
Disclaimer: I have the Reavon X200 and love it. I still feel I spent too much for what it is. If the X110 was available in July/Aug 2021 when I got mine, I would have got that instead as it fills all my needs but for those that want to use an external DAC for audio the X200 and it's higher price makes sense. I am disappointed with the explorer interface for network files in the fact if you have a lot of files it is painfully slow to find what you seeking. Even when you have your movies/music in Alpha folders to break down the number of files it is looking at in any given folder, it is slow. Slow to the point I broke down and did buy a Zappiti for media files and use the Reavon now purely for discs.
Thanks for watching and your feedback!
The comparison to Oppo is because there are still Oppo enthusiasts who are looking for a viable replacement since Oppo is now defunct.
I have reached out to Panasonic and Reavon for review units but they wont send one. Maybe I’ll try again. It’s still a good comparison since Oppo players are very highly regarded.
If you are selective, you can find oppo's in excellent condition still. I purchased my 203 early last year as a nearly new unit for $600 shipped. It came complete with everything in the double box. You just have to be patient and selective and ask for complete details and pictures. The 205's are more difficult to find because most people won't let them go still.
And about Reavon UBR-x200?
Still in the box….lol havent had time to review it
Truthfully no. I don't believe it is. I have both the OPPO 203 and the ub9000 and you would be hard pressed to find any better option. My 9000 is in the rack for movies and I use my 203 as a transport for my 2 channel music.
For 3 times the money! 🤣 🤣
$2,599.00 why does it cost so much to play a $30 movie
Thw 800 is only Round $1500. The 900 is about 3k.
I love my 205. I just hope it doesnt die before me.
If you have the high-end home theater setup that you will understand that why you need high-end universal player
That question makes absolutely no sense.
Why does a car cost $20,000 when fuel is only $4/gallon?
Once again the Panasonic UB-9000 has aleady beat the oppo for movies. This player won't beat the 9000 if only because it does'nt have hdr optimizer.
The UB-9000 lacks other features that the Oppo has though. To each his own 😃
@@hatoraidcowboy The UB-9000 is still in production, Oppo isn’t!
This is true, but even so The Oppo is still regarded the best player by many enthusiasts 😃
Regardless of the Panasonic, I have changed my mind about buying it since its video freezes after several uses during the playback of 4K Ultra UHD Blu-ray Disc, Also along the time the disc will not eject, then you will have to send it for repairs
- Sadly not true.
You would like to think that as a much newer machine it should be better for all film sources but it's ability to play and upscale sd (DVD) - it still cant match the Oppo and then it cant play SACDs either, which is the reason why the Oppo is still able to fetch crazy money second hand!
At least the Panasonic has HDR10+ for any films not produced with Dolby Vision - which isn't that many these days
