    Very interesting Vincent. I've had my Oppo for a while now and I didn't know half the stuff it can do. In particular, changing the output resolution to make my LG OLED do the upscaling. I've always suspected my TV was better at this as Netflix/Amazon tends to look better than when I watch Blu-Rays. Thanks.

    Another well presented, thoughtful and analytical demonstration. Thank you for this - it helps improve my understanding and use of the technology to get the best out of my equipment. I used to use the Oppo for upscaling of lower grade DVDs but not any longer. Cheers

    Great video Vincent, really enjoy your channel.
    Could you maybe do a comparison between uhd discs and the apple tv4k?
    Im curious between the difference on a tech level and you opinion about it.
    I plan on buying my collection movies on disc and my 'just want to see' movies on the apple tv4k.
    Btw i noticed on the apple tv the fast forward/rewind dolby vision application isnt happening on apple tv4k? Im curious as to why not, its just always on even when forwarting/rewinding.

    Vincent.. Since upscaling of the OPPO player is average, and not being used for FHD BluRay.. Using a player like Cambridge CXU could improve FHD BluRay with the current tvs? As most of the movies available were recorded at 35mm film im most concerned about FHD movies performance playing at a 4k tv than UHD Movies at 4k tv at least for the next couple of years.

    Hiya Vincent, great channel, and I apologise for this question, as I'm betting you have been asked this many times, so you mention handshake issues, I get many of these on my LG, and Samsung 4k player, so what cable would you recommend?

  • @txmoney
    @txmoney 6 лет назад

    VERY USEFUL! Vincent, you're the best!
    I experienced the exact issue you mention about occasional handshake issues (1 second screen drop) with standard blue ray movies from my Oppo 203 to my LG OLED e7.
    Example: I recently played the blu ray movie, Manhunter, and got one scene where the scene blacked out for one second. I replayed the scene but did not experience the problem again.
    I also experienced a one second scene drop while watching the UHD movie, John Wick 2. Once again, I could not duplicate the issue with the movie.
    I will try the forced source direct mode on my Oppo and let my LG TV handle the processing.

    Vincent, could you please do a comparison between the new AppleTV 4K and the playback on a disc, for example this Oppo 203. I’m very curious about the quality difference between them as the content in the iTunes Store is way more friendly to my budget then physical discs alone. I expect that there would be a noticeable difference but just very curious to what degree. We need someone that looks into this who knows what he is speaking about.

      Great idea Walter. I buy my film on iTunes but ran into a TERRIBLE problem for all yesterday. 4K versions of iTunes films cannot be downloaded only streamed which means we do not own them. One of my films that I bought 3 years ago was DELETED in my library by Apple. When I spoke to them they offered ZERO customer service and told me that it was the film companies that do it and they have no control. They would not offer to refund my purchase or credit my account and told me that 'I'd have to buy the film again'. Pretty shoddy experience which has truly made me question the whole long term prospect of the iCloud and trusting these companies!

    Great video - like most of your videos :-)
    I have actually had the flickering from my Oppo 203 connected directly to my LG 65C7, which usually appears after watching 4K material and getting back to the Home menu. Hi Vincent.
    How can I check DV dynamic meta data being applied if I run a movie from the backup (USB attached drive) using the fast forward?
    I can't recreat this on a backup like you did on a disc. Is this related to the fact that from USB the resampling is much faster then from disc?

    • @codythompson9035
      @codythompson9035 7 лет назад +7

      lghaze42 THX certification is more of a gimmick than an actual indication of a quality piece of equipment. Not sure the process of getting something THX certified but I’m sure money is involved, and ultimately the end user will be the one paying for their certification, not the company.
      Most ID companies are trying to get most bang for buck and do a damn good job at it. My emotiva amp, svs subs, and oppo player might not have any fancy certifications but they blow most of the competition away at a much more affordable price point.

    Isn't another way of understanding this just looking at it as though it's *kind of like* DTS-MA (lossless) vs DTS-HD (lossy)? DTS-HD is the core, which will be played if your player cannot support DTS-MA, but if it does support it, you'll get an even more enhanced audio experience.
