I had the pleasure of listening to Voddie Baucham preach and shake his hand a while back. He is a true Gospel preacher.
Lucky you! I love him and his teachings!
I like how both these men are standing firm in their conversation and with how Voddie answers. There is no second guessing in his responses. We need more of this. God Bless you Voddie!!!!!
They have truly reflected on their faith and surrounding practices
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Plain and simple. It’s a heart posture. You cant regulate how someone worships.
I really like pastor voddie baucham's sermons and biblical teachings
Many of the contemporary music is about what God does for us versus His Holiness and how we serve and love Him
Absolutely. The modern church preaches about a vending machine god
I love Voddie, and I appreciate his straightforward answers. I used to belong to a church that did all the things he disagrees with here, and I have since come around to realizing that he is right about everything he says here.
For what the first Church practiced look at Acts 2:42- they devoted themselves to the Apostles Teaching, Fellowship, Communion (the common meal) and Prayer.
“We don’t do things because they’re new. We don’t do things because they’re old. We do them because they’re faithful.” -VB. AMEN!
Pastor Baucham, I love listening to you preach and teach. And I really like your socks!
Man, talk about a wealth of wisdom! I have never attended a church that has multiple services. But great reasoning here why NOT to do it.
Thanks guys!
Love Voddie. Truly led by the Spirit.
Very clear from this discussion that the hymns/contemporary issue is just a matter of opinion and stylistic preference.
Wait till you hear Voddie talking about youth ministry (or the benefits of not having it)...
I need to look that up.
Would like the link please. Thank you.
Great presentation. Just ran across a message by Matthew Harrison, like Vodie, very clear on what a Church should be.
To a point, if there is not enough room for the entire church, multiple services are needed.
Lutheran church at 9:00, Presbyterian church at 10:45, Korean at 12:15. All meet at one building. California prices are too expensive to buy. Good way to afford a building.
You just juked me by theese hours lightening like moments in this video 🤭
That's not what he's talking about. He's talking about one church with the same name having multiple services on the Lord's day.
"how is it then, brothers? Whenever you come together, each one has a psalm, a teaching, a revelation, (another) language, or an interpretation. All things must be done for edification." 1 Corinthians 14:26
I appreciate these discussions. I come from an LDS background so these things that Pastor Voddie says are common in my faith community.
Except for the heretical stuff the lds preaches. Voddie did a great sermon on the racist heretical preaching of the lds.
The worship is about the Lord! The hymns, god centric sermon and worship is vital! If you want what tickles your ear, go listen your favorite christian song in your music playlist.
Your preference is not highly appreciated. Seek what the Lord requires from us.
The Classic hymns are anointed abd they draw God's presence into where they're being sung sincerely. ❤
So good and helpful.
Voddie is a good listener
Love Voddie❤️
I am so thankful that Christ leads me in the truth of His Word when I pray and study His Word
Don't need anyone interpreting God's Word for me
A blessing! 👏🏽
Why are you watching videos then? Hmmm?
I loved his comments about multiple services being multiple churches.
LOL those socks!😃
I agree 💯
People may respond to this with vitriol, but Voddie is correct.
The only thing I have a problem with is when voddie said there can't be two of the exact same type services.
@Packhorse-bh8qn1: I never said that a local church is just a place to hear a sermon.
2: there is some irony in the tone and objective of your "admonition" about what a local church is.
very nice you started allowing comments. really hurts to be silenced for no reason.
When I was a kid we had no mikes, no PA, no big screen, nothing. Not even a piano. We sang without accompaniament, but, boy, did we sing! The people who lived across the street told us they could hear us on a Sunday morning, a congregation of around 70. Today, we go to a modern church of 150 with all the technological stuff...and you can barely hear some of us!! Haven't we grown too reliant on tech?
How about a church that meets 3 times on Sunday but the same pastor giving the same sermon?
That is the standard norm here in Korea. In large churches, the lead (head) pastor preaches 3 times every Sunday morning.
@@autumnsky32able I like that. JACK Hibbs of Calvery Chapel Chino Hills does that and each sermon is always good as the previous.
In this video, when they were discussing multiple services with different types of ‘worship’ for each they were assuming the same pastor preaching the same sermon at each service b/c that’s how it’s almost always done.
Agree with almost all that he said. Torn about Normative vs. Regulative. Only because "regulative" was not really defined biblically. But I would definitely prefer regulative, even at the risk of becoming legalistic, over some of the wild stuff we see paraded as worship today.
What about when there are multiple languages? Should the Church still meet at the same time or would this be an example for when two separate services could be beneficial?
Agree on different services mean different churches. Some say, but what if we have outgrown the space. Well, get a bigger space; or if you are more than a couple hundred, send out some FAMILIES to plant another church or two.
*edit. Added comment to soon, they addressed it.
Colossians tells us to "let the word of God dwell richly in you as you sing your songs, hymns, & spiritual songs, so if our music is not filled with biblical truth it is disqualified as appropriate worship music. How could it edify the hearers?
“Psalm, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs” of Col 3:16 and Eph 5:19 are to be understood in the context that Paul spoke them in. These three are all titles found in the titles of the Psalms in the Septuagint(Greek Translation of the Old Testament). We don’t have any command to make new songs, but, to sing the songs that God gave his people in the 150 Psalms.
@@johnking9161 Did you listen to Voddie's explanation? Sing unto the Lord a new song, as we should always be praising God through all time for his blessing.
@@yvonnestone426 It says sing not make a new song. Your interpretation of these verses like Psalm 98 is eisigesis not exegesis. Would you allow a Arminian to say John 3:16 means Christ died all sinners? Would you allow Papists to use Matt 16:18 to say Peter is the pope. Psalm 98 and other Psalms like it that use the term “New Song” doesn’t mean out of nothing new it means a renewal just like the New Covenant in Jeremiah 31. Who can say Psalms 22,72 and 110 are not new songs in light of the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Where in the New Testament does it say "When you assemble for worship..." Point is, it doesn't. I understand the regulative principle but, worship is never mentioned in relation to the assembly of believers. Why is that? How can worship therefore, be regulative? Will you dismiss this or will you check it out?
Making up rules to impose on other people makes me feel powerful.
It’s interesting to see how some christian channels are completely dedicated to criticising other churches rather than actually preaching. I don’t know how I feel about this
I think the point, here, and in most of the Christian channels that, as you suggest, only criticize certain aspects , methods, beliefs, and culture within various communions across the faith, is to faithfully assert that which points toward the best and most accurate, God-approved, scripturally sound, God glorifying, and truthful expression of worship within the Christian faith.
Many Christians are ignorant regarding worship about what is acceptable or not acceptable, what is authorized or not authorized, what glorifies God versus what glorifies man, what kind of worship is performed in Spirit and in truth versus that which is done in the flesh and is deceitful.
The interviewer and the interviewee, here, are dedicated to honoring God in every way. They follow a long history of men who hold the highest regard for the living God. Their desire is to teach God’s people and anyone else who is teachable the importance of obeying God’s Word, faithfully. These men do not claim infallibility, but they do believe Scripture is infallible and that it is their responsibility and duty to teach it truthfully so that those who hear it and receive it might avoid unscriptural, aberrant, and even blasphemous forms of worship.
I hope this helps you to understand their perspective and desire to honor and glorify God. They aren’t criticizing just to be criticizing. There is very serious purpose for good behind their conversation.
It’s not about your feelings, it’s about the truth & discernment. Do you not want to save a brother walking off a cliff.
This wasn't 'preaching,' this was a Q&A session.
Preaching is for Church. Teaching is what Todd does on this channel. He educated much on what’s good AND what’s not according to scripture, such as bad practices in church and false teachers.
It is good to educate on what scripture calls us to do and to call out those who do what it doesn’t.
Hey
How do I watch the full video?
How about if a church adopts platonism and gnosticism? I guess it at least categorizes as no longer a biblical church.
A church is not a building or a service or a second service. Its the body of christ, we people are the church. So I disagree to his point of having multiple services.
Yes yes yes your suppose to branch off and start another church a sister church ⛪️ & that is suppose to be a wonderful thing.
So it’s not about style or particular sound but when a song doesn’t carry the same cadence as a hymn (even though many of the lyrics are extremely similar) then it’s not good anymore. Hence him referencing the Getty’s which are writing modern hymns. Writing modern language to familiar melodies. Seems to me this is actually about the fact that it sounds like a hymn lol.
A new concept of 'a church' started in (or just prior to) the 21st Century that causes me to run away from is 3 or more congregations in remote locations will project on a large screen the preacher from another location. There's 0 intimacy.
Voddie has some interesting personal preferences. Not sure they’re actually based on biblical principles-but I guess that’s why they’re merely what he prefers.
He's Sola scriptura so yes, however his Oxford education was influenced by jesuit herecy, he has taken that into consideration before preaching.
regulative principle = exclusive psalmody
Coming to this really late I know.
The video is so weird. He sounds like he is describing the Catholic (Catholic=universal) Church.
1 Corinthians 14:26
God bless Voddie, he always seems to speak from the both sides of his mouth. 😮
Not sure what you mean. To speak from the both sides of his mouth is: to say something that is the opposite of what you have said before. Could you give me one concrete example (with proof) of your assertion?
@@mikerush9024 I wrote in parables & of-course It's a bit hard to comprehend, so reflect on it for a few more weeks & then write back. Peace.
@hamidrabiipour9707 "What I said makes no sense, so I call it a parable and concider those who don't understand to be simple minded. Maybe a few weeks to figure it out will help them" is a weird stance
@@hamidrabiipour9707also, the phrase that the other comment mentioned is certainly the most common understanding, which you haven't given any substantial proof of. In good faith, that might not be what you meant, but it definitely seems like that😊 is the case
All powers not given to federal government are given to the states
The problem with so much of Voddie’s answers are not in line with the regulative principle. Where are Musical instruments commanded apart from the ceremonial worship fulfilled by Christ? Should we go back under the law? No Church used instruments for the first 600 years and they were not widely used for the first 1200 years of the Church.
"Musical instruments in celebrating the praises of God would be no more suitable than the burning of incense, the lighting of lamps, and the restoration of the other shadows of the law. The Papists therefore, have foolishly borrowed, this, as well as many other things, from the Jews. Men who are fond of outward pomp may delight in that noise; but the simplicity which God recommends to us by the apostles is far more pleasing to him. Paul allows us to bless God in the public assembly of the saints, only in a known tongue (I Cor. 14:16) What shall we then say of chanting, which fills the ears with nothing but an empty sound?" (John Calvin, Commentary on Psalms 33)
Our church does not use musical instruments, as harps and psalteries, to praise God withal, that she may not seem to Judaize." (Thomas Aquinas, Bingham's Antiquities, Vol. 3, page 137)
"musical instruments were not used. The pipe, tabret, and harp here associate so intimately with the sensual heathen cults, as well as with the wild revelries and shameless performances of the degenerate theater and circus, it is easy to understand the prejudices against their use in the worship." (Augustine 354 A.D., describing the singing at Alexandria under Athanasius)
“The use of music was not received in the Christian churches, as it was among the Jew, in their infant state, but only the use of plain song." -Justin Martyr
"The church, although lapsing more and more into deflection from the truth and into a corrupting of apostolic practice, had not instrumental music for 1200 years (that is, it was not in general use before this time); The Calvinistic Reform Church ejected it from its service as an element of popery, even the church of England having come very nigh its extrusion from her worship. It is heresy in the sphere of worship." (John Giradeau, Presbyterian professor in Columbia Theological Seminary, Instrumental Music, p. 179)
'Praise the Lord with harp.' Israel was at school, and used childish things to help her to learn; but in these days when Jesus gives us spiritual food, one can make melody without strings and pipes... We do not need them. That would hinder rather than help our praise. Sing unto him. This is the sweetest and best music. No instrument is like the human voice." (Charles Spurgeon (Baptist), Commentary on Psalm 42.)
And yet habakkuk was the first rapper. Shigionoth is a loud emotional poem to music. Many instruments were played in the old testament. Your preposition is very flawed or your biblical literacy is lacking, maybe a bit of both.
You also ignored the use of instruments in exodus.
@@SteveWest-R215 They were having a national celebration after the Exodus not a worship service. Every worship service in the Old Testament had a Sacrifice. The account in Exodus was not a religious ceremony ,but, a national celebration. The church for the first 1200 years was biblically illiterate on this point and Rome was right? You can believe that but, I can’t.
I dont see how multiple services means multiple churches.
Biblija govori o ucestovanju svih clanova, nasa skupljanja nisu vise duhovna, vise su forma,a uvijek se branimo filozofiranjem,a ocitovanj Duha nam vise nisu bitna
A church that has a traditional service and a contemporary service is a huge turnoff to me.
People that were ties remind me of bankers ?
Yes it's all revealed in the bible as a "hidden wisdom." And it is learned IF you walk in the Way in/of Jesus as taught by Jesus!! But after Jesus resurrected and returned to the Father, the Father removed the teachers of the Way only to give us a teacher of the Way in/of Jesus in these endtimes beginning in 2001, to teach us how to worship in Spirit and in Truth having our faith established by our walking in the Way as first Jesus taught, and now as the prophet teaches the lost doctrine in and of Jesus.
You don't teach it, you don't even seek it!!! And you reject Gods teacher of the Way in/of Jesus.
Gathering with believers, good. Prescribing pagan-derived practices such as sermons, choirs, silence of members while a “leader” speaks…not so much. We have allowed the traditions of men, once again, like the Pharisees, to supersede the commands of God.
I like his insight, but some of his arguments address a strawman of some “counterpart” ands not the real issue
Acts 2:42-47. Get back to basics, back to the Bible. Most of what we call “church” or “worship” today is neither. “Sermons” were not a part of the house gatherings in Acts 2, neither were music style preferences.
Hillsong should be rejected by all Churches as Worship music. Same with Bethel and Elevation. All of it written by false teachers and stuffed with false theology.
So much answers less biblical verse
Voddie has every right to think as he does. But it's hard for this black-hearted sinner to think when God said, "Judge not but ye be judged" that it doesn't also apply to Baucham. You should understand I'm not attacking Baucham for what he believes. I'm concerned for his soul in judging others as if he were equal to God. I know for sure I lack that level of understanding. He has every right to behave as he believes. But not to judge others. And that's God's word, not mine. Take care.
We’re literally told to judge according to the scriptures.
Are you judging him for judging?
Why don’t you read the whole context of that verse? Must be because of who is guiding your thoughts. Your supposition is wrongly based.
Firstly If you are in Christ, you are no longer a black hearted sinner
Secondly Im not sure where you got the idea that he was being judgmental
Judge not, least ye be judged!
I believe is the verse. So you will be judged, by the standard that you are judging, I believe to be the Application here!
Look at yourself, are you better or do you think your perfect?
Let God be the Judge!! ✝️
What a load of nonsense!
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Actually, they said nothing. Oh, I am sorry, be biblical, but they said nothing biblical.
