      @TopGunZero 2 месяца назад +10

      Yeah, people give Brown credit for guarding Luka (which was a big deal) but they somehow ignore Tatum guarding 7 footers... as if Tatum was a center himself... Tatum was the key to the Celtics defense because he destroyed Dallas' pick and roll offense.
      Luka averaged 29.2 in the series finals. He averaged 32.4 against Minnesota and 24.7 against OKC. 29.8 against the Clippers.
      The Celtics broke down Dallas by taking everyone else away, but we want to focus solely on Luka because the media makes him out to be a better player than he is. He is not an all around player, so shouldn't be in top 5-10 discussions.
      Dallas won't be back in the finals next year and maybe they never go back with this group. They are just as likely to miss the playoffs altogether.

But he’s been a statistical leader on a celtics squad thats been making the ECF basically every year and the finals sometimes and now won it all. If this continues and they add another title or two, itll be one of the most dominant careers ever for the both of them.

      @@mrenzo2004 Agreed. He has some of the dumbest offensive possessions I've ever seen. IDK if he's coached that way or what but it just seems that his possessions often correlate with the Celtic's offense stalling. It's maddening. I don't know if he takes the ball when the offense breaks down, or if the offense breaks down because he's hogging it.
      I also don't like the floppy drives that often end up in a turnover and a complaint. Dude is a specimen with his length and strength. He's not center-strong but he should be able to give us way more highlights than he does. But sometimes he looks clumsy instead.
      But he's been playing great defense and passing more and cutting down on the turnovers. His numbers are good, it's just the problem that his points 'look' hard, when many players in the same atmosphere make it look 'easy.' Something is off.
      And he just doesn't have a great camera personality, which isn't a knock against him but makes people resent how good he is. People want the top talent to be more like Luka and ANT, which is fair, and I think people sometimes get impatient with players who don't give them more drama.

      The Celtics coaching staff is encouraging those threes. The more threes we shoot the better in Joe Mazzullas eyes and if the possession is going nowhere, taking a three is actually an efficient shot for Joe. That’s why a bunch of our players shoot and jack up threes when the offence is stalling we want to get an “efficient” shot up while also setting up our defence if Tatum was constantly driving during those end of the shot clock situations there would be a disadvantage in the transition defence. You gotta look at things more from a coaching, Joe Mazzulla perspective. JT is encouraged to shoot those threes and the rest of our players especially if the shot clock is going low and if you look at JT’s side step difficult threes it’s more usually during end of shot clock situations. This strategy won us the chip. It’s mazzulla ball.

    I’m a Boston fan, Jaylen Brown definitely deserved FMVP. As it pertains to defense for Jaylen and Jayson. Jayson’s impact on defense was just as important as Jaylen’s. Dallas had the same amount of lobs as the other 15 teams in the playoffs. What would we be saying about Jaylen’s defense on Luka if Tatum wasn’t guarding Lively/Gafford and it was Horford instead coming up to guard that pick and roll? Tatum being on Dallas’ Centers kept Horford out of the action which took away a very important part of Dallas’ offense which was the lob. Not too mention Tatum’s rebounding ability also made that possible as he lead them in rebounding the entire year including playoffs and finals and the previous few years as well. They both tied in defensive advance stats at 106.5 I think which supports my point that Tatum guarding the center and securing the rebound to end the defensive possession was just as critical as Brown on Luka. Then on the offensive end, Tatum was the catalyst on offense. He setup all the plays. Lead them in assists and points. His efficiency left a lot to be desired but his impact on both ends of the court for his team should not be discredited. Tatum is definitely the Celtics best player and a top 5 player in this league. What he did was not a fluke either because he guarded Evan Mobley in the ECSF and he guarded Myles Turner in the ECF. Tatum just made 26 March and Brown will be 28 in October. One could argue that Jaylen being almost 2 years older has more grown into his man’s body which makes him be a little more efficient at this point in time. Jaylen might be further in his prime than Tatum who still has some more weight to gain to get his man body. Imagine Tatum in 2 years about the same point age wise of his prime as Jaylen is now. He’s already more talented so he has the potential to be an absolute beast!

    Not a statistical thing, but I also respect a player who stays with one franchise to win more than someone that travels around, trying to win with different teams. It's easier to move to somewhere with a great core, or that has assets and are willing to build for/around you. It's hard to stay at home, deal with the team deciding whether you're "their guy" or not and listening to all the doubt that builds up over the years. Tatum did that and he did it through all the doubts and bad times. Glad to see him winning the title. Skip saying that Jaylen was better because he was the one defending Luka really tells how little Skip knows about team construction and the defensive scheme that Joe Maz ran. That defense was entirely to deprive Luka of options from his dunkers and corners. The whole thing revolves around a lynchpin: Jayson Tatum holding down the dunker spot. Any success that Dallas had in game 4 came from Luka pulling Tatum out towards the free throw line to re-open up those options.
