  • On 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show,' Oprah Winfrey looks back at when the late Joan Rivers fat-shamed her on 'The Tonight Show' in 1985. The media mogul opens up about how that experience compounded her emotional toil at the time, after Oprah had auditioned for her dream role in 'The Color Purple' and was concerned her weight would keep her from getting the part.

Oprah also never told Joan that she ate a lot of potato chips. It was Oprah, who mentioned that she gained 50 pounds, to which Joan replied, How did you gain the weight? First she said lied saying it was Weight Watchers and then gummies but all along it was meds to lose weight. Why lie about it and now she is out of Weight waters as a board member. Tell the truth people even if it hurts. I loved Joan Rivers and she had some really tough years but she was a winner in my book. Oprah is not so much now for me. After she said that the older generation just needed to die because of race relations. Shame on her, she is no spring chick herself. yes, this is not fake news. Heard it from her own mouth and that is why she lost it for me.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - Oprah's show was demeaning and shameful for many overweight people. Joan was a comedian and a good one at that - she was simply asking Oprah a question and encouraging her to be her best. The fact was Oprah gained a lot of weight during this period, and Joan was asking what the public was thinking. She didn't drag it out for a 60 minute psychology special, unlike someone.

In your role you could have counselled Meghan and help her understand how difficult it would be for her to adapt to a new culture and in particular with the Royal Family but you instead supported her in trashing her extended family and now her own children will not reap the benefits and richness of having grandparents and extended family.
