- Too fucking often do I see gold guides showing how you can make 20k gold an hour when you would be lucky to make 1k gold an hour. Today we're going to look at how people get those really high estimates and what's wrong with the logic and math they use. I'm not going to call any particular person out on here that makes guides or anything similar, I really don't have to.
I know Economics is boring for a lot of people but to me it is really interesting especially in a large scale, completely Laissez-faire economy like World of Warcraft.

Honestly, I am glad to see that more people are making realistic videos of gold farming. I've been disappointed one too many times after spending all my gold on pots and whatnots, only to pull through slightly up.

I'm glad to see someone made a video on this topic. There are way too many people on reddit and other forums pulling ridiculous numbers out of their asses trying to promote different farming zones. Just to give a bit of info i'm currently on 2 mil gold so i like to think that i know a bit about how the AH and the gold making scene works. I know other people have and make way more gold than me but i'm a lazy bastard and i'm totally against farming. Most of the gold i make is just by flipping and crafting. On the rare occasions where i'm "forced" to go farming i do it because i want a recipe/item (for example Rich purple shirt pattern) witch is way overpriced in my opinion. In these runs you obviously get a lot of items witch farmers use as an excuse to inflate their prices. They are NOT viable transmog pieces (yes, even if you think they look good). No matter what TSM/Auctioneer or whatever addon you use says about the price, chances are it is a crap item. Now, i'm not saying you can't sell them, you obviously can, and any good gold maker knows about the value of being patient and persistent with their stock. It doesn't matter of you post an item 10 times if it sells for 10k gold. The profit you get far out-ways the AH cut and fee for reposting it. The trick is not to be an idiot bout the items you keep.
A few rules to follow if you like farming transmog:
1. Set items are always good. ( Example: Jade plate, Overlord's Plate etc.)
Exception to rule 1: If you can't see a price (if the gloves cover the braces or the pants aren't show because the chest is a dress) chances are you won't sell it, unless someone really wants to transmogrify the whole set.
2. Weapons are good even if you think they look bad.
3. Vanity items like eye patches, goggles and other hats will sell.
4. Keep an open mind and a REALISTIC sell price (if you wouldn't pay that much for a transmogrify item witch isn't rare WHY would anyone else?)
5. And for fucks sake don't forget to undercut, if you think you're gonna sell stuff by posting it once every 24 hours (like some streamers bullshit you) you're an idiot. The only way you're gonna do that is if NO ONE else is posting that specific item of the the demand for it is through the roof.

I love you and your channel. I just recently subscribed within the last month due to one of your vids that I came upon by accident. First, you are the most honest, straightforward, no BS site around, and we know there are hundreds that cannot make that claim. Secondly, you give us the down and dirty of gold making, and let's face it, that is why we are here. The claims of 500k gold in a hour is so unrealistic, I can't even believe ppl fall for it. But, you made the most key point - all these claims are using addons that give the AH value of items. They are false claims ... I am on a server that wouldn't know prices if they were written on the 10 Commandments. I want totals of vendored items - raw gold. I am not going to keep putting a shield on the AH for 2 weeks, because I think it makes a great transmogg. I am losing money in auction fees alone. I have 200 pieces of Icy web silk that has an extremely high AH price, but after almost a month of trying to sell it on my server, I gave up. Keep up the great job making these terrific videos. I really like your no nonsense style!

I used to do a series where i tested peoples farming spots etc, they rarely ever worked. did a youtube video of a farming spot wich was alright, but what i got wasnt even close, so i just stuck to showing people good spots for farming sertain things (like motes of harmony etc)

Karma Kojima It's not completely unhelpful, it's just that some people post unrealistic numbers to get views. I have some videos on my channel for farming gold with some average numbers that I got from farming there and selling the stuff on KT Alliance.
Yeah it takes 20 minutes to "farm" the xmog gear and it takes months to sell.
Gods, I remember when the Battered Hilt was one of the most desirable swords for DW Tank DK's. Never even got 1 to drop for me. But, this is also when I couldn't even get a group that could do the Heroic 3rd dungeon. I eventually found a cheat, but it was hotfixed before I could run it. (hide behind the rock and let LK pass)

I just use TSM for listing things and after a few times use tsm to DE them all and sell the mats so eventually it all sells not always as much as i like but still
Stick to your roots man. I started following you because you have good in depth info on soloing things. If its a Gnathus or rare item in the process that's cool also. Best thing you can do IMO is not attach a price tag to anything in your videos unless you're giving a vague server example. Don't worry about the scammers brah, people will eventually find ya boy, Asmongold.

There is something you can do about those videos which could even score you quite a few views. Though it may take some time, not sure how dedicated you are.
How about launching a series or something similar where you would go through all of those guides, while recording, and show how much gold you are making following a specific guide. Don't upload hours of content, of course, cut or speed-forward to relevant moments such as when you get an interesting drop. Fraps would try to murder your hard drive though.
I'm no youtuber and this may only seem like a good idea to me but yeah... Would love to see you taking the fight to them ^^
Yeah I thought of doing guides and showing how much gold a spot actually makes, but with prices and the Ah the way it is, it would always be subjective and you're always going to get people coming back and telling you that you're wrong
Well, the beautifully wrong thing with most of them is that they don't consider the prices of the AH on other realms. Pointing that out could actually be pretty fun and as a disclaimer of sorts you could always just drop the date on which you are recording your AH section of getting that gold and the population of your realm. Raging people would be people that aren't paying attention to the video.

I've whispered a lot of top auctioneers and sellers I found through undermine journal and I've noticed the most successful transmog sellers are the ones with a large transmog bank (at least 1000+ xmogs in the ah) and they all use tradeskill master to find noobs who put good transmogs for little gold which notifies them and they sell them for a lot more. So more items = higher chance to sell.

Hey man I was wondering if your guild is looking for more people for 10 man raid groups? I don't really have any high end pve experience except for full DS/heroic DS clears back in the day and level 60 raiding but nothing up to date. I switch to pvp and got rival etc so I am not an awful player just never really interested in pve tell now. Do you guys accept people like me with less experience? also My gear is only like 510 cause I just started playing again 2 days ago. Your videos are awesome keep up the great work!

I'm 516 and I just started again after a 4 year break. My last two weeks of LFR/Flex SoO have been 100% gold + 3 rolls. Would I try a past heroic? Burden of eternitys aren't dropping either. I've got all my chests.
I'd farm gold until Warlords, the expansion is so near getting extra gear would be a waste of time

I never bother farming anyway, I've got 90k sitting in my bags which just accumulated over time, there isn't even anything I want to buy, I have more pets than I know what to do with already, and the only mount I ever use is my onyx panther.
You are very correct here sir, I actually found farming AQ on my own when looking up expensive stuff on the AH, Im on a very high pop server, so a lot of stuff is expensive, but more people farming. I've found glorious legs and still have them lol, I farmed aq for a week or so before I found it to be an udder waste of time re-listing, losing money on unsold auctions ect. Right now I have a big problem I can't seem to find anything good to farm, all my old tactics are nill right now. I used to be able to buy Lord Blastingtion scopes on the weekends for 250g and sell them for 1k on tuesdays when everyone was raiding, now the price never really fluctuates anymore even if I just make them myself. I've seen all your cloth guides and for me they are horrible with a high pop server, runecloth and frostweave are basically better off vendoring, and embersilk is only about 20g a stack on a good day so I'm out of ideas at the moment for farming, aside from trying to farm rare drops which is also a pretty big waste of time. but +1000 don't waste your time farming transmog gear, most people that want it will probably just farm it themselves because they are bored, and its not a consumable so as more people get it, the pool of buyers dwindles drastically.
Soloing the old raids on 25 man heroic each week isn't a bad way to go. You can make anything between 6k to 14k per toon each week. Not to mention potential BOE transmog gear or mounts that may drop for that bonus amount of gold.
the Timeless Ilse is a good Vendor farming zone where u can get up to 7k/h I've been farming it a lot and well, I actually get around that amount per hour

Well, I farmed SFK and got Gloomshroud Armor from my 3rd run and sold it ( on Ravencrest realm ) with 70k gold.
I probably got glorious greens i some point.. and i probably vendor them haha

If you want to make 100k+ really get the shadowmourne quest items,mount goes for 80k+ Tabard 50k+ Muradin's Favor 10k+ and the Locket 10k+ it's long but definitely
worth the investment.

I freakin' hate that too I've been trying to find a video showing just a dungeon or best dungeons or whatever to make DECENT gold, as much as I'd love to have 20k+ gold per hour I know there's no way it's ever gonna happen. I also don't wanna hear about transmog gear (as I know next to nothing about what makes gear awesome and makes people wanna spend all their gold on it) or getting money through the AH...to me it takes too long and there's no guarantee you'll even sell what you post. I mainly use the AH to post pets I get from soloing raids. I have made the Vial of the Sands for myself (took almost 3 months of around 18 hours per day of playing to get all the mats and gold together to make it), now I'm trying to make another to give to my brother, I've got all the mats except the 8 sands of time that cost 3kg each...I need 24k gold I have almost 3k but it's taking forever. If anyone knows the best heroics to get gold through (and I'm talking just looting and vendoring) please let me know (I can solo everything in BC, WotLK (with the exception of the Lich King himself >.> damn guy likes to blow me off the platform everytime, and parts of Ulduar), can do some cata and Jade Temple on normal.
I've seen a video that showed how to farm gold by only vendoring stuff. You simply run the Stonecore on normal for several times and vendor all the greens, greys and blues. The second boss can drop a mount so you can combine a gold farm run with a mount farm run and even a reputation farm run if you aren't exalted with the dungeon tabard factions from Cataclysm yet. You could also disenchant the stuff and create bags with 'em and the cloth that drops there. By this you can make surely above 1k gold an hour minimum by only vendoring stuff, it can also be several thousands but not really more than 3-4k, depending on how many greens, especially 2h weopons, have dropped. This is somehow realistically compared to Asmongolds critique in this video.
By now I am doing trash runs in the Pit of Sauron heroic to get my reputation up with missing WotLK factions, including getting the red dragon. Until now I've made about 30 runs and the Battered Hilt dropped once on the ca. 20th run. I put it on the AH (Perenolde EU) today and I'll see if it will sell. After those runs I'm almost exalted with the Wyrmrest Accord starting at somewhere mid friendly.
The only problem doing this is the 10 instances an hour limit so either you do stuff like this once per day or take a break once in a while, I recommend getting SavedInstances to show you your IDs and how many minutes they'll take to expire.
Someone might also like to reset instances by clicking a button or hotkey only, this is the macro: /script ResetInstances();

I've seen folks selling cloth ( I think it was embersilk) for a couple of hundred gold a stack on the AH- I'm on Wyrmrest Accord. I once had this person cuss me in whisper for flooding the AH with a couple of dozen stacks of it priced at twice the vendor sale price. But I had to do something with all that stuff cluttering up my guild bank you know? lol

thank you man, been starting making gold guides and i agree with you so much on that 20k an hour. If anything you can get lucky and get a drop worth 20k, but you cant add that to a average per hr since its a 0.001 drop chance usually.
I've come across many guides like the ones you're talking about...you would need to be going butt-nugget crazy doing wow things to be earning that much gph... most people aren't machines... last I heard.
I got Vanguard legs from aq20 randomly took me weeks to sell them at 25k (keep in mind they were closer to 60k on the ah) lol

Yes I think we can all agree that the guides are just terrible and if it was such a good gold making method that the person would want to keep it to themselves. However, as a newer payer, they do really help me out with teaching me the types of things to farm and how to go about doing them. Use the guides as a base, and then take your own spin on it. :)
Tessrific also to add on don't forget that yes sometimes the guides do have the value and the things are worth tones of gold...but the problem is they don't sell on the AH making them junk.

It took me almost 2 month to farm 100k gold to get the alliance chopper, and I did it by selling crafting items. It dose take a long time to farm a lot of gold, Asmongold is right about these guys. you can not farm that much gold in a shot amount of time they say you can. It takes a lot of patience and a lot of to time to farm a lot of gold.

I've only seen 2 NOT bullshit videos that actually work. 1 was for a spot to farm Embersilk cloth, and the other was some dude making 3-4K raw gold from just soloing 25M Heroic instances and vendoring all the loot. The solo raid video actually worked, I farmed 9K in 4 hours and made enough to buy a WoW token (I have 10 100s on horde side and 4 on alliance side so I basically ignore the weekly CD)
