i have bought many times off whatnot it seems i am happy with about 1 out of 5 books. spine ticks, corner tears, ect.... alot of the books have issues on the back of the book as well. MOST sellers oversell their books on whatnot. its not their fault they are salesman. but do be on the look out for it, which is hard because you cannot see the books very well. so i guess its all just a gamble.
stop buying off whatnot guys, period. If your gonna buy online, any normal selling venue is better. Regardless of what people say, good ole trusty eBay is still a great option. Tons of options of what you want and you can inspect it better AND it tones down that impulse aspect you get on these bs auctions. In my experience from watching live auctions also is that most of the books sell for more than they should and more than you'll find elsewhere. A good amount of the books shown on this channel that you've told us how much you paid for them are cheaper on ebay. People get caught up in these auctions and pay too much ALL the time and peoples pride and want to win makes em run the prices up too much many times. I'll watch these auctions and just shake my head at watching people get railed, or rather rail themselves all the time and they can barely even see the book on top of it.
Some books just aren’t worth sending in to be graded dude, it’s not so much about the grade but it’s also about the demand. A Fantastic Four #348 even in a 9.8 probably wouldn’t move as fast as it would raw. Remember Very Gary buys whole collections from people, so he’s not gonna constantly have 9.8 candidates to send in. Doesn’t mean that they aren’t great books someone would want for they’re collection raw. We all collect differently. Sounds like you’re really going off the deep end with this 9.8 obsession. Are we chasing comics or grades here?
Well I don't send everything for grading but I do focus on grading and it's value. With the market down anything lower than a 9.8 really drops off the cliff in value, so focusing on the condition is critical.
Rusty does like the 9.8s. It’s a passion with him. But he also has a lot of books that he buys that are just fun books that remind him of books he had as a youth
i hear you using the phrase "lets take a chance" alot. Unfortunately disappointment is often gonna follow "taking a chance" in this hobby. Unless you have money to throw away, i wouldnt be taking chances on things that are in the hundreds of dollars. Or really even over 20 or 30 dollars personally
You're about to spend lots of money and you're being distracted by other things...that's like watching a movie on your phone while you're bidding at a live auction😂......
You aren't wrong. The tractor thing was extreme, but even with a whole lot less distraction it is difficult really getting a true sense of the books. That was my point about building a trust with a seller and to what degree they accurately describe and show off their comics.
Nice pickups on the books! Whatnot is a good place to find books. I have found that I prefer the smaller shows. Better chances for giveaways and prices on books, not always a certainty though. But mowing and bidding on auctions, that may be like throwing darts while on a trampoline.
Thanks. The books were good books regardless of condition. LOL the tractor thing was a one-off. I was on a time crunch to get it done and TBC is one of my favorite WhatNot sellers. But you aren't wrong as I should have picked one, not both.
You expecting to get a 9.8 is the wishy washy part. No one can tell you a raw book is a guaranteed 9.8 and you should understand that. Minty copy does not mean a guaranteed 9.8 book.
You aren't wrong, but the comment was made based on my history with these sellers and trying to get an idea of where their descriptions fall grade wise. That's why on most of these sellers it's takes multiple books to get an idea of that range. Thanks for watching. I appreciate the comments.
What not I don’t buy anymore been awhile. Too much bait and switch scamming on that site. Too many scammers there now. From Pokémon to comics. Last time I bought was a X-men 266 NM the guy raved about it and I got it in and nope not even close. At least with EBay I can return it no matter what the seller policy is.
I’ve had some bad luck on whatnot. Got taken advantage early and dug myself in a hole that I had to climb out of once I ran into my worst mishap. Purchased x-men 266 twice and never received the book. Had to fight like hell to get the book and my money back. Needless to say I still use the platform, but I’m very very hesitant and picky with the books I choose. Thanks for sharing your pick ups and stories 👍
I've pulled back even more since this episode came out, mostly to stop spending generally. When I do buy it's now generally with sellers I have a history with.
@@CollectorAuctions that’s a great outlook. It’s pretty close to the same with me. There’s two sellers on whatnot I shop from frequently, the rest are Facebook or Instagram. Just not worth getting taken advantage of if you aren’t sure on prices of books.
I give it out sometimes but to be honest I do it most so the wife doesn't add up my spending lol, plus this was supposed to be on the condition of books vs. The sellers descriptions.
Hulk#340 is a nice book and it's not that pricey of a book,I would think you could get a copy for about $100.I don't have one but if I found one cheap I would get it but my main books to get is TMNT#1,Hulk#181, X-Men#1 1963, Amazing Fantasy#15 and Batman#1 1940 which is going to take me a long time get them cause they cost so much but those books should always hold there value and if they do lose there value then I am sure every comic will drop in price.
I had a couple from the PC that I got graded, got a 9.4 and a 9.6. The market was really good, so I sold both but I've since pick up the one in this episode and one other that is miscut but a really nice copy otherwise.
I don't buy from WhatNot anymore unless it is for run filler books. If I'm looking to get a book for grading, I stick to claim sales, my local LCS (where I can inspect the book more thoroughly) or an occasional find on ebay.
I'm getting to that point with these sellers. I was sitting there last night for one of their shows and resisted the urge to bid on anything. This dealer has a history of some really good books but even them I've been disappointed with. My wife reminds me to keep my gunpowder dry for Baltimore Comic Con next weekend.
Wyatt was a favorite of mine in the lee Kirby FF, but even more so in Byrne's She-Hulk. Red Wolf is a fav as I own a couple of original art pages from that Avengers debut.
I stopped WN last year because 90% of the books are trash copies sold for mid-high grade prices. I've switched to my LCS, can get great deals from him and know the condition of the book. The buyer frenzy on WN also gets people to pay more than they should, and shipping ain't cheap.
Shipping is crazy as each win adds up quick. I see a lot of sellers have adjusted it some but still to much. I also had a FB retailer, who is one of my LCS's. They do a 24 auction in FB that ends at 10am. Since it's local I didn't have shipping costs but the quality of the books were not always good. The same kind of feeding frenzy we see on WN would happen there on big books and I was disappointed most of the time.
I found a DC Presents #26 first app of the New Teen Titans on Whatnot but they guy wanted $300 for it and I told him that was over priced and he blocked me because of that well screw the sob cause that was just wrong and I wish there was away I could report him. I find good books on Whatnot but some people think there books are worth gold. I did however get 2 original art sketches from the Kevin Eastman channel that is just awesome.
The giveaways you received from Hell Destroyer Comics are in some type of sleeve with the title of the book on top. What are those? They are really nice?

Even with a great dealer some bad books sneak thru. I'm going to be more disaplined I think and really limit my WhatNot time.

A lot of times taking a chance means giving the seller a chance to see if their books were as described. It won't take long for sure.
100000% facts....if you can't see it with your own eyes

Macmancomics has always sent me minty books . Priced fair and they have a good reputation. Hope this helps
2:45 & 6:00 what are those cases? It looks like do it yourself cases.
They are uncirculated comics that are sealed immediately. I'm not too familiar with them but have seen them out there at shows a little bit.

Is there a reason you left out the purchase amouta? I would think that's pertinent information for this type of video?
I give it out sometimes but to be honest I do it most so the wife doesn't add up my spending lol, plus this was supposed to be on the condition of books vs. The sellers descriptions.
I would love to have a 340 at any grade. My grail for the moment. 😊 very nice.

Wyatt Wingfoot was Comanche. - 4 yrs before Red Wolf hit the press.

Always liked the fantastic four 348. Just purchased a 9.4 CGC for $35. I think your analysis is spot on!

That's awesome on the sketches. I'd like to know the process to return a book you aren't pleased with. On eBay it's pretty straight forward
What seller ? I had an experience like that
@@mikeanderson3762 I don't remember his name but it looks like he had his own comic shop but they was just dirty how he did me.
The giveaways you received from Hell Destroyer Comics are in some type of sleeve with the title of the book on top. What are those? They are really nice?
I think the comics were pulled when printed, never distributed and immediately encased. That's about all I know.
Astonishing x-men 3 is key cameo Abigail brand
Thanks for the info as I wast sure.
Excellent 👍
Thx. Appreciate you watching.
Yes
I’ve heard Superman lost is a good series
I will have to check it out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
funny how you win 2 in one sitting , yet I have been in triple digit raffles and never won ... I think cause my username is to long
Well it was hilarious. The room blew up. I've never seen a pattern with anyone's giveaway though.
Ive won 178 giveaways since May...i buy alot too but started as a full on goblin 😂
