I can concur 100% to that. Love who you love and that's it. Not like one has to fall in love with the entire world. No one is forcing their sexuality on anyone else. Live and let live as long it isn't causing intentional harm to anyone else.

Good day
this just randomly came up in my recommended and i'm just so happy that they took the time to edit the titles and captions and everything to respect elliot's journey :)
Heis so brave, I'm speechless. I don't even dare to come out to my mom, and he just comes out to the entire world. Great job, Elliot and Ellen.. You inspire people everyday, and make them believe they can be whatever they want to be, and that they just need to be themselves. It's great to see that they just talk about their sexuality openly like this. Praise.
One day we'll live in a world where there's no need to be brave in order to come out. Until then, stay strong and know there are millions out there who support you :)
Prodipto majumder My mom probably doesn't even care. My family is not the type of family that would make a big issue about it, but something stops me from telling them.
Chungus Big, yeah it’s all how they were taught. In the movie 42 about Jackie Robinson, there’s a scene where Jackie is on the field and people are screaming the N word at him, and a son is looking at his father doing it, and he started doing it to. Just like that, that boy might grow up to be a racist all because of the people around him
I came out as bisexual not that long ago. Ellen Page is right - there really is a weight off your shoulders that I feel in every aspect of my life. It's comforting to be out. I really didn't think it'd have that big an effect on me but it really did. Both of these wonderful women are so inspiring. :D
I was married to a beautiful female for over 20 years I still love her you with all my heart but I finally admitted to myself that I was bisexual but that was not the reason we separated my name is Robert and that was the hardest thing for me to admit to myself
ChloeOfTheCookies I came out as bisexual arround 6 years ago, but now that im studying a different carreer and making knew friends im scared to tell them cause they are almost all girls and we are getting really close, Im afraid that they become distant or feel unconfortable arround me
Kimmie Turtle That's gotta be hard, girl. I can only speak from personal experience, but I believe that if they're your friends then they'll accept you regardless. If they don't, you have to ask yourself if these are the types of people you want to be around, if they don't accept you for you. My friends are all girls and they're fine with it. A few of them came out as well. Perhaps they're in the same situation as you but are waiting for someone else to come out first? Again, this is only from personal experience. Good luck. :)
They changed the title and caption to reflect Elliot's new (to the public) identity! It's amazing that they took the time to find this video and modify it :)
Hi, everyone. I would like to take this opportunity to COME OUT and announce to the world that I am Straight. Wow you might say, that's no big deal. Then why are we judging gay people? Remember no matter what your sexual preference is you are human first with feelings and emotions.
Congrats, you can "come out" as what everyone is assumed to be at birth. Yes, I hope to see that some day we don't have to come out or hide our sexuality but the fact is, we are treated horribly for who we are. Coming out is important, especially when it is someone who gets as much attention as Ellen Page, because it reminds the homophobic world that we are here and we aren't backing down. I understand that you meant no harm but it really is insulting that you think it's the same to "come out" as straight. You never had to come out, you don't know how hard it actually is. Please don't tell me you also think there should be "white history month" and "men's rights activism" as well.
bowiechick I am sorry if you feel insulted by my comment. that was not my intention. All I was intending to do was show people no matter what your sexual preference is you should not be stereotyped. I might not be gay but I do have a great understanding of what it is like living in shame and fear of what the world might think of you if you lived your life to its truest, that's another story for another day. Take care.
bowiechick "we are treated horribly for who we are"? NOT YOU. You live in Oregon where same-sex marriage is legal. You have rights. Quit with that victim mentality nonsense!
You all keep asking why gay people have to come out, it's because literally EVERYONE I'm everyday situations assume you're straight, they'll say thing like "Do you have a boyfriend yet?" And even doctors assume you're straight. It gets very uncomfortable to correct them because you don't know how they'll react, but it's also uncomfortable to have to flat out lie and change pronouns or say you're single when you're not. I was sexuality assaulted by one of my male friends who one day decided he wanted sleep with me, and I declined and declined and finally told him I was gay and didn't want it and well that made him angry. It IS scary and brave to come out!
Honestly, I am happy for both of them on mustering up the courage to tell people they're gay but they way I see it is you shouldn't have to. Straight people don't stand in front of a crowd nervously saying that they're straight. Now don't think I'm saying anyone of the LGBT community members should not be allowed to come out but I just find it ridiculous that our society can be so close minded and hateful that someone has to "come out" before they can be seen publicly with their partner or even worse that "coming out" is the point where shame is shed. I know there are many flaws in what I'm trying to say here and that there are a gamut of arguments for and against my stance however, I'm simply stating that no one should have to carry the pain, guilt or shame of "coming out" because one should not have to. Be who you are all the time. I know that is difficult in a judging society but be you and screw anyone that wants to tell you otherwise.
Think of it as when black people were not allowed to go to school a bunch of years back. If you think about it deeply, it does make sense all these important figures are "coming out". It is not about the attention or waving your sexuality, the important part is to show people that it is normal and that everyone or anyone can like the same gender and be a successful, happy human being.... 30 years from now, no one will think much of it and coming out wont even be necessary. Black people were hated by the church all those years back, now to be racist to another person is something that can even get you in jail. The important part about it now is the ground work that will allow future kids and people in general to love whoever they want without having to worry about being mistreated or hurt physically.
Tori Harding That's an ideal that's being worked toward, but that's still a long ways off, unfortunately. There's still a massive amount of homophobia and transphobia, and demonstrating that LGBT+ people are, in fact, people you know and like, is a good way to help further that effort toward sexualities and genders no longer being "one is normal and presumed, the others are things you HAVE to say you are."
I agree, you shouldn't have to "come out". Or be stuck in a closet for the rest of your life. Being gay or straight should be the norm, like having blonde hair or brown eyes. You shouldn't have to "come out". But we all know that society sucks.
@@JessicabelliciMa1 because it's still considered normal to be more heterosexual than homosexual or bisexual. Because the majority or people are straight
I applaud any person whose always in the public eye who comes out. It really does help. I'm on of the extraordinarily fortunate few who had a supportive family and network of great friends when I came out, but not everyone is that lucky. People coming out publicly tells kids in the closet they are not alone, and that can save their lives.
Brandon Petruska agreed, but i don't think celebrities have to make big speeches or do a tell all interview to make a difference. They can just get on with their lives with their partners too, and that's really telling young people that it's 'normal', because making such a big fuss over what gender you are sleeping isn't really 'normal'. Straight people don't have to do it.
Self serving is used as selfish. So coming out means living life as truth not a lie, is that selfish? People can lose jobs or get beat up, how is that self serving?
I'm bi ... The only member of my family after my dad disowned me that I felt I could tell and trust was my uncle for some reason I couldn't tell my mum and still can't ... My uncle was so understanding and we texted about it but since he died through suicide five months ago I've felt like I've got no where to go and it's horrible but knowing I'm not alone keeps me going
Chloe Edwards being bi myself i used to punch my dick to not get erections wen seeing naked man... now that i'm an adult fuck it, sometimes even gay people tell me to stop lying and choose a gender to love ..
HENNI Mohamed Yeah, ironically gay people can be really close minded too. But pay them no mind. Sexuality is very complex and every person is different. People need to realize and respect that. I'm a bisexual and homoromantic woman (I'm sexually attracted to both genders but only develop romantic feelings for people of the same gender) and I don't know how to explain that because most people don't even know what a romantic orientation is or don't differentiate it from sexual orientation. I've been asked if I'm scared of men and I know some people would think that I'm just gay but too afraid to admit it. Or the classic "you just haven't met the right one". Lol yeah, sure. Most people are really uneducated about this stuff, so don't let it get to you.
I feel like the term "coming out of the closet" has a sort of awkward, negative connotation to it because of all of the bullying and harassment ppl have gotten over the years. She should just say "thanks for revealing who you really are, and staying true to yourself".
Yeah I know right! I feel like they're supporting the "stereotype" of being gay is wrong, or something like that. I totally understand what you mean. I feel like gays would be offended by saying that
Wuwlf Still, just using that phrase I think would/should offend a gay person. I would just say "revealed" or "told anyone". Nonetheless, it was a good interview and stuff. I don't want to sound critical or anything
Mathew Mozaffari my dad is happily gay with his partner for 15 years and he uses the term "closeted" all of the time in reference to someone who is gay but hasn't come out. My best friend is gay as well and she uses that term. I have never met a gay person (and I've talked to many) who think that the term "coming out of the closet" is offensive.
Everyone saying "who cares" "it doesn't matter" "I didn't have to come out as straight" literally get a grip. The reason gay people have to come out is because otherwise you are assumed straight. Gay people HAVE to come out so they can begin to live their lives without people making false assumptions about them. Gay people don't have the luxury to just BE sorry bout it.
Ellen really was the trailblazer for SO MANY celebrities. If I'm not mistaken, she was the first big public figure to come out and KEEP her career on the fast track, and I am so thankful that she did that so many other famous celebrities could have successful careers despite being gay.
People who are gay should just be able to say to next person "I'm gay." and people are like "Cool. Whatever." It shouldn't be a scary thing to say. Humans can be so disappointing, esp in this day & age.
I knew Ellen Page was a lesbian when she was still a teenager. it never stopped me from adoring her in every way .She is one of the most intelligent female leads from the time she was still doing films in Nova Scotia. She's gorgeous, talented, well versed and everything I'd want in woman yet she is still gay.She would never go for a heterosexual male like myself but my feelings and crush will always remain. I'd put her in any role she felt fit to play. Gay or straight. Congratulations Ms Page!
I'm 18, but I just can't wait until I'm old and a grandparent. I just want to see what all has changed. In the past 10 years, being gay has really changed. A lot more people accept it. By the time I'm old, hopefully it's become acceptable by most people. But just like racism, there will always be a few.
Most of the world do accept it, around 60% of people living in america and europe are in favour of gay marriage. Most of the people that are against it are 50+ years old so yeah when you are a grandparent gays will most likely be accepted by everyone
cahan mclaughlin um you forgot Asia, where I'm sure at least 90% are furiously against it. The people here speak of it as if it's the plague, and I'm not just referring to the older generation.
Yeah but i dont really think asia deserve to be included in this subject. Most people in asia are on minium wage and/or homeless and gaming isnt even allowed in china?
MOST is a bit too harsh, don't you think? Certainly more, but the statistics definitely don't justify the usage of MOST. And um I don't understand how gaming is related to this? (but no i don't think so the chinese are one of the fiercest players i've seen)
I think it is so sad that, just because actresses or actors for that sake, have to make an actually speech where they tell about their love life? Who cares if she is gay or not, it doesn't matter to me, as long as she has someone to love and love her back. Did the non-gay actors make a speech about not being gay?
Unfortunately, people are assumed to be straight unless they say otherwise. And the tabloids love to make scandals out of the every day lives of celebrities. Also very unfortunately, there are people who *do* care if she's gay or not, who will judge her, who have judged her. Her coming out and saying "I am gay" is empowering herself to be who she is, not who others expect her to be. Someday, it won't matter and there won't have to be a "coming out speech" for gay people. Right now, it's important to understand and accept that all people are different, we are all individuals who have different feelings, needs and desires. Having celebrities saying "I am gay and I'm ok" is extremely important for many young people who have been told all of their lives that being gay is a sin or is wrong or is dirty. No one is made to feel that way about being straight.
The speech was for the Human Rights Campaign, so it kind of made sense. It's cool when straight allies make a HRC speech, but I was able to relate to her a lot more once she came out
If you actually watch or listen to her speech, it's not about the fact that she's gay. She only mentions it about halfway through. The speech itself is about masculine and feminine stereotypes and the prejudice and struggles that many members of the LGBTQ community face.
I always cringe when someone says how proud they are that someone has come out. And not because being gay is wrong, *no*. But because we have made this such a huge deal in our society, like coming out is the biggest and bravest thing you could ever do. It makes me cringe how they treat it like exposing a dark secret which they had to be ashamed of in the first place. Like it's not common or okay.
I never thought she was lesbian, but once she came out, it kinda makes sense. You can almost 'sense' it based on her personality, kinda. Idk. But I'm so proud of Ellen Page! She's an amazing actress, role model, and woman! This took a lot of courage and she did it! I'm so happy she feels better about herself now! I'm not gay myself or closet but I look up to her so much!!!! Love ya lots Ellen and thank you for being yourself!!!!
Being gay shouldn't be a shame. It shouldn't be something that you have to be scared to reveal. Being gay is still a form of love, and it sucks that it takes courage to come out.
I hope that one day there won't be "coming out", that people can just do their own thing and never be questioned and that sexuality will never be thought twice about
Because it is reminding her of the struggle she had to go through and that moment in her life that was very emotional. Hell I don't even know how she held it together.
i came out a few weeks ago. I was planning to do it a few years ago, but i was looking for a very good reason. so I met the love of my life and i just wanted to share how happy i'm with him. :)
The comments are kind of disgusting on this video. I admire Ellen for coming forward and being true to herself in a hateful world where at best people go "I like you even though you're gay". Like "I'll support you despite this flaw you have" or straight people not taking it seriously like "I'd go gay for her lol!" or "awh no she's gay I wanted to fuck her". This isn't a joke. She had to live a lie in a world where people assume you are heterosexual from the off and you have to ANNOUNCE to the world that you love differently. All this because something as innocent and pure as love is seen as abnormal at its kindest.
Having a preference for seafood doesn't mean she's afraid of pork. On a serious note, I love Ellen Page and I'm happy for her and I think it's sad that people are scared to come out and say that they are gay.
nienientje It was just a joke, perhaps a little bit crude but tongue in cheek. Ellen Page is a great actress and human and as I stated earlier, I'm happy that she came out and I hope it gives courage to others to do the same as well.
nienientje Sexuality is a preference… not a choice, but certainly a preference. Saying that you’re a lesbian is literally the definition of a preference… she’s saying she PREFERS women to men, romantically and sexually. That’s a preference.
LittleMissAmbiguous While true, you seem to imply that she could enjoy men or like them too, which as a lesbian, she wont. Just clearing that up. It however definitely is a preference.
Sinead Norris Yes, thats a good thing. However, the fact that she even has to "come out" in the first place is sad. The pressure that people have to deal with because of their sexual preferences is unfortunate.
Yes ! I have been waiting for Ellen to come on. There is something about her voice, it breaks my heart even when she isn't talking about something sad. Everyone deserves happiness :)
It is amazing how many comment's and people behind them are STUPID. I congrats both Ellen, If they are happy go for it girls. It's hard sometimes not to feel ashamed of something or regrets (not only about the gay thing) but also for a lot of other stuff. We need to LEARN to RESPECT MORE, and mind our own busineess.. Peace
Aléxia Brooke Um, surprisingly enough, no, not over a youtube comment. Maybe, instead of me trying to be helpful and correct what I thought was a mistake, you should be helpful and correct your attitude.
Balderz I don't know why you thought that because I wasn't showing any attitude and how could you tell that over a youtube comment? Instead of assuming things, maybe you should ask first. Fired back.
Aléxia Brooke Sorry, where I'm from "No shit Sherlock is an insult. I'm sorry for assuming, in future I'll try and confirm if someone is insulting me before I retalliate. Side Note:- "Fired Back" This can make you come across as immature but I won't assume anything.
I can't imagine how scary that must have been for Ellen Page. Like seriously, I get so freaking nervous when I have to talk in front of my class about some shit like the french revolution, how scary is it to tell the whole world about being gay? You go Ellen!
People tell me I look like I'm 15 without my makeup on, Really is a compliment, Let's me know I got my momma's genes! MoviesForLife i don't really like Beyond: two souls as a game but rather as an interactive animated movie of some kind story flow was creative (memory traits were arranged in a mixed up order thus explaining why Jodie said in the end her memories were a mess), emotional scenes got me emotional, awesome and touching soundtracks all in all, it was a 6/10 for me, simply because the playstyle is rather dull and repetitive, but the story somehow made up for it, plus it got many endings worth checking out (P/s : with "The last of us" being the standard for all story-based RPG games since 2014, upcoming similar games are going to be judged harshly for sure. TLOU is just phenomenal and it makes other games look bad)
imJo king okay then , I can respect your thought. , like I said I love this game because I love ellen page . and you said I don't like . okay I respect that .
The only thing all lesbians have in common (other than liking women) is that they are women. I think she fits this criteria. I'm not sure what looking gay vs. straight would really be though.
You can tell that Ellen was holding back her tears and had to divert the attention back to Ellen when Ellen told Ellen that she went through this on a tougher era, at the same time, you can see clearly that Ellen was also holding back her tears throughout the whole interview.. Ellen and Ellen did went through a lot up till this point, and it really isn't easy for Ellen at all... Ellen's interview with Ellen in Ellen is so professional.

Ellen is amazing. Either one.

Praise.
I agree! You shouldn't be ashamed to come out though. If she can do it in front of all those people anyone can :)
DutchMattyBRapsFan you're welcome!
One day we'll live in a world where there's no need to be brave in order to come out. Until then, stay strong and know there are millions out there who support you :)

Lack of education, how someone was raised, wanting to feel superior as well as how that group of people is portrayed you the media and in general

What a sad truth that "coming out" is a thing....
Good luck. :)
Ali Dangou No, bi. Did you not read the first sentence of my original comment?
Ali Dangou That may be so, but what prompted you to so plainly comment 'gay' to me? You don't believe in bisexuality? Is that the case?

Take care.
bowiechick
Thank you
bowiechick "we are treated horribly for who we are"?
There are 2 Ellens that are both gay, hmmmmmmm, that's amazing!
isn't it the greatest ..Hollywood is celebrating !
May the world be a safer place for LGBT.
Straight people doesn't have to come out because everybody thinks we all born straight and we change or ''choose'' to be gay
bullshit
I agree, you shouldn't have to "come out". Or be stuck in a closet for the rest of your life. Being gay or straight should be the norm, like having blonde hair or brown eyes. You shouldn't have to "come out". But we all know that society sucks.
Skyrim
Fuck you.
i hope for all the gay people out there, that there comes a time where it is not nacessary to come anymore 😀
because exactly there is no coming out for straights people why there is a coming out for gay people?😑
Thanks! I hope so too🌈💪
CHABIE DER BÄR what for har
@@JessicabelliciMa1 because it's still considered normal to be more heterosexual than homosexual or bisexual. Because the majority or people are straight
Thank you so much, I hope that too❤️
I applaud any person whose always in the public eye who comes out.
Oh shut up
I'm happy for you Brandon that you have supportive family 🌈
I really appteciate the title's been changed! 😊👏
She was a beautiful woman , shame that she did that to herself.
@@JK-cj3qe ¿?
I find it silly. Its like erasing history. At the time of the interview she was a woman so the title should be as it was before the change.
Chloe Edwards Stay strong, things will get better. And of course you are not alone :)
Chloe Edwards You're never alone. You have thousands of bi friends all over the word, and we're all together in this struggle.
Did you guys hear the news? Gay marriage legalized in all U.S. :D
I feel like gays would be offended by saying that
they didnt say coming out of the closet they just said coming out as in coming out
Wuwlf She clearly says "closeted" at 3:37 .
Ellenception.

NJAY8/16/08 HAHAHAAHAA
Thanks for changing the titles to his name 🥺
Or better yet they don't need to say anything and people shouldn't assume everyone is straight.
that's how I am!! I don't give a flip what gender or race you like! If you are a nice person than I have respect for you!
Kelly Ng Agree. I meant more like people just saying, "I'm gay" like someone would say "I like the color blue."
yeah that'd be great
I knew Ellen Page was a lesbian when she was still a teenager. it never stopped me from adoring her in every way .She is one of the most intelligent female leads from the time she was still doing films in Nova Scotia. She's gorgeous, talented, well versed and everything I'd want in woman yet she is still gay.She would never go for a heterosexual male like myself but my feelings and crush will always remain. I'd put her in any role she felt fit to play. Gay or straight. Congratulations Ms Page!
Has your comment changed?
My two favorite Ellen's in the world!!!
HOW CAN I ONLY JUST HAVE REALIZED THEY'RE BOTH CALLED ELLEN?!
Dane Trotter SAME lol mind blown.

Cynthia Podmore I could not have said that better myself, Cynthia! :)
The speech was for the Human Rights Campaign, so it kind of made sense. It's cool when straight allies make a HRC speech, but I was able to relate to her a lot more once she came out
You said it best Merle!
If you actually watch or listen to her speech, it's not about the fact that she's gay. She only mentions it about halfway through. The speech itself is about masculine and feminine stereotypes and the prejudice and struggles that many members of the LGBTQ community face.
Pro Tip: Want your daughter to be gay - name her Ellen. xD

All this because something as innocent and pure as love is seen as abnormal at its kindest.
hateful world? youre so full of yourself LOL
You've made her point exactly. Well done.

nienientje Sexuality is a preference… not a choice, but certainly a preference. Saying that you’re a lesbian is literally the definition of a preference… she’s saying she PREFERS women to men, romantically and sexually. That’s a preference.
