I wish he'd just stop doing key moments. It seems like he tends to gloss over mistakes "Ah, yeah, that was a mistake apparently. But it's only -1, so it's not a big deal, let's keep going" and then gets pogged up by "Game Changers" that are just "The opponent made a blunder and you didn't immediately counter-blunder". And then things like "Over the course of ten moves you went from up by one to down by one, then in ten moves you brought it back" don't get a key moment so they don't get looked at at all, when that's probably the most important stuff if you want to get better
So I went on a school trip with a bus years ago and the bus stopped on a gas station at 2 am to let some of us pee. First of all I was surprised it happened at such a late hour but I was thankful because I really needed to go. I was uncomprehensibly sleepy but I managed to get to the right toilet room. All the stalls were closed accept one and I quickly occupied it. About 2 minutes into my poop someone got the same idea and started looking for an open stall. I was the only one else in the restroom so I had to give him an answer when he was to knock on my stall door. When this moment inevitably came I forgot all the right acceptable responses, so when he knocked, instead of me saying: 'occupied' I said: 'come in'. The person on the other side did not laugh nor express confusion, instead he just fleed the area all together. To this day I still don't know who was on the other side and for all I know it could be someone I knew who could've recognized my voice and now knows this unsatisfying thing about me. This has nothing to do with chess, I just wanted to share a story.
Just in case anyone wants to actually know the mate in 8, it's (alternating white and black's moves): Rfe1, Rg2, Kh3, Bg4, Kg2, Be6, Rad1, Bf6, Nf6+, Ke7, Qg5, h6, Rd7+, Kf8, Qh6#
you should try some chess puzzles for a video, i feel like it'd do you a lot of good spotting those check and take's like the one you found analyzing your last game, loving the series so far NL
I get that it's kinda embarrassing but i really wish NL did more analysis on the games he loses/draws (also wanna see that game that got lost to the sands of time)
Hey NL, whenever you get a long mate in an analysis, it'd be cool to watch you treat the game as a puzzle from there out, playing both sides. It might pad out the video a bit but I think it'd be good practice to look for longer lines near the late midgame/early endgame.
@@MELTYYYY he doesn’t check his best move on enormous mistakes like this 14:45 and that’s why this comment exists. I don’t think people care about him bonding best moves unless he makes mistakes/blunders
Game 1, e4 critical mistake: don't reinforce the pawn, take with the d-pawn. This forces the release of tension on the d6 square, resulting at worst a trade of rook for queen, probably winning the game. Had me yelling, my dude. I'm getting Baba Is You flashbacks.
22:00 haven't seen the rest of the game or analysis. i predict that nf6 is the best move. if they respond bxf6, queen takes and puts the king in check, and mate will come quick with the open files and the rooks. if they do bxf1, you do nxg8 for the trade. after the trade they have to move their bishop, and black responds with rd1 for check which puts mate on the table again. 25:08 re7 is the best move here. if bxe7, qxf4 (queen takes rook). if kb6, rb7 is mate. if kb8, qg8 is mate edit: it didn't matter at all, and i didn't think it would either. just fun to find moves!
6:08 I think Bf7 would've been interesting, if he moves the rook, you take the knight and they have to open the h-file and expose the king to recapture it
In the first game where you attempted the retry, if you'd have moved the bishop there it would have forced his knight out to protect the checkmate and you would have had his queen.
Here's the PGN for the M9 if anyone wants to give it a try or just see the full line via analysis, it's a pretty cool mate. Dude when you moved the queen to e4, you could have instead moved the knight to d5 and it woulda been a really funny play. Would have absolutely forced him to engage, probably would have either taken his queen and put him in check or traded queens and came out a bishop ahead.
Mate in 8 was moving his rook and then using his queen to take the bishop next to blacks king. He wouldn't of been able to do much about it besides move his king, at that point you pin him in like you did at the end.
Why is it when watching someone else's game I see all sorts of tactics and traps but then in my own games I hang pieces lol. At 10:53, if you play Rc1, your opponent playing Rxd6 is a trap since you then can play Rxd6. If your opponent plays Qxd6, you'd have a Rc8+, forcing Qg8 and winning the queen, then all of the left pawns through skewers with the queen. I'd never find that in my own game, but something about watching someone on youtube makes these stand out to me.
i cant unsee the mate in 1/loss of black queen after knight d4 at 1:56 :D and right after hes talking about not seeing the mate haha aaaand another mate in 1 after bishop h6. (nvm i saw)
i was playing yesterday and i saw on analysis (of a bot game because i suck) that at one point the best line of play predicted mate in like 10, because i had to keep the king in check the entire time so the opponents moves were predictable
1:40 - Wouldn't he be able to just take the pawn with bishop? Then if: you take bishop, he takes it with rook. you take rook with rook, he takes it with queen. I mean, he would not be able to lose on that, or did I miss something? I'm just 1300 elo bullet player though :D
most people in that position against a practiced player would have played it out and lost and most don't have the time management skills to accept a draw from a winning position so don't feel bad it was a pretty good play
