It's honestly the biggest mistake by far (in my opinion). It's just so easy to let your lifestyle creep up without realizing it! Thanks for watching. :)
i remember right after graduation, the thought of student loans scared me so much because now i REALLY have to face it. thankfully i took control of it fairly early and i'm so glad that i did because i still have friends and classmates who don't even know what to do with them
absolutely agreed! and friends are the worst actually.. and the gift as well, because without friends you're nothing.. but friends can eat your whole wallet empty... mostly, you do it to yourself! totally agree! thanks for sharing!
These tips are facts! Lifestyle inflation can keep you from adding more to savings. Usually people complain that they can't save, but when they get a raise or promotion, they will spend it on something expenses. Instead of adding that extra money to savings. Ignoring your student loans is vital, I did this in past while I was in school. I was doing a lot of forbearances, instead of actually trying paid those down. Like 1!👍
These are some great tips to avoid! I totally agree with you that your 20s is the decade that is really important if your goal is to reach financial independence in your 30/40s! Great video looking forward to more in the future!
You’re my new favorite RUclipsr! ❤️ I watch/ listen to your videos like a podcast while I exercise 😄 Thanks for the info! Your videos are so helpful and I absolutely love the Charles Schwab walkthroughs. 🙌🏼👏🏼
Omg number one was not what I was expecting but it is SO true!! My first job was as a veterinary technician... people do NOT give enough consideration to the financial aspects of pet ownership. 💚 Glad you brought it up!
how amazing to find this kind of videos, people need this more than ever , thank you for being such as good influencer, i fully support your creativity, new friend here, let's stay connected and stay safe.
Not gonna lie, the past few days i've been looking at cute dog videos on RUclips and getting tempted to get one lol. I think the most important tip in this entire video is Lifestyle Inflation. People leave college and then see their friends living lavishly (using credit cards and living a fake lifestyle) and getting tempted to match that. It's hard to keep up with these types of people and i get it, it can be hard to save money and spend less. But ever since I adopted that type of lifestyle, i've been able to save so much every month while also putting away for a down payment. All came down to learning how to sometimes just say NO to friends.
🙂 Loved it my friend. Ankther awesome video filled with awesome content. Keep sharing these amazing stuff. Keep up your hard work, I absolutely love what you do! :)
I could live on pennies while in uni, and then allowed lifestyle creep to kick in, one of the reasons I love the budget as it does keep that in check and focus money on what is truly valuable :) great video Alex even though I graduated a few years go. Nice edit as well :)
Thanks for all the useful tips Alex, ignoring student loans or any loans for that matter is detrimental. I know some people that rather “invest/speculate in the market” than paying off their credit cards... trust me, even the best of them can’t get 19+% consistently. Pay them off!!! Lol
OMG yes I wish people understood that more!! Choosing between student loans at 3% interest and investing is one thing, but credit cards should always be paid off ASAP!
Great video! I have often struggled with the issue of paying down student loan debt vs investing. Loan forgiveness opportunities have ultimately been the deciding factor for me though.
Man when I came out of college that lifestyle inflation and going out every weekend really got me good.....luckily I recovered but could’ve be so much further along 😭👍
Great video! I was actually very surprised that getting a dog was number 1. But yeah, getting a pet can be is very expensive. I made the mistake of moving into a very nice apartment once I got my job after graduate school. It wasn't that I couldn't afford it, but it was definitely harder when I decided to downgrade to a less nice apartment in the effort to save more money. Lifestyle creep is so real!. That sponge bob scene was hilarious ;D keep up the good work!
Great advice Alex - it may not be fun for people to think about using a raise or better still, a bonus or surprise commission check (if paid that way) toward paying down debt fast, but the lift of burden is a much more long-lasting feeling than a ride down the freeway in their fancy new car. Then, shutting down lifestyle creep a must - "keep up with the Jone's" should be buried, replaced with "debt-free geek and lovin' it!!!"
Thanks for watching - I totally agree! That's why I suggest finding a lifestyle you'll be happy with for a long time so that you're not tempted to increase it every time you get a raise/bonus.
I wish I didn’t make some of those mistakes you mentioned. I know if I would have made better decisions and listened to something like this I might have made some different decisions when I was younger.
The friendships are the hardest part for me! I like hanging with people who spend all their money because they’re fun but it causes me to spend more money too lol Great video! I didn’t think about dogs
First, I wish I had watched this when I graduated! Second, you really surprised me with the first tip, totally unexpected :) But you are absolutely right on this - dogs are expensive. I recently read an article about how much Americans spend on pets, amazing! Big #13 like
In all seriousness, the dog point is the most accurate and most applicable one to the youngins, especially in Toronto where the avg condo is getting smaller and smaller ...
Hahaha omg I knew someone would get on my case for that car reference. 😂 And yes - the costs of owning a dog go way beyond just the adoption fee and food!
You are right dogs are expensive!! Their food bills add up at the end of the year!! i spend about 1.5K a year on my dog ouch! (Still love him though) lol
Really great content. Loved all the good tips in this video. This is exactly the kind of content I love. Big like from me and a sub! Although, I'm not Gen Z... I'm hoping for FIR at this point. LOL (no E)
Hi Alex, new subscriber here 🛎 This is great advice!! Try to conserve spending, start an “emergency fund”, start saving for retirement ASAP, and pay down student debt (or start to) Don’t do what I did... go out and finance a fancy car. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Ps. Thanks for watching my silver video
Great tips Alex! So important to get your finances in order as soon as possible!
Lifestyle inflation is huge..... too many people I know STILL do this.... get a raise, spend the commensurate amount more:...
Nice video!!
It's honestly the biggest mistake by far (in my opinion). It's just so easy to let your lifestyle creep up without realizing it! Thanks for watching. :)
I definitely agree with these, especially lifestyle inflation. Seen it happen to people so often
I've definitely made a few of these mistakes myself. Yet another great video! :)
Thanks so much for watching!
i remember right after graduation, the thought of student loans scared me so much because now i REALLY have to face it. thankfully i took control of it fairly early and i'm so glad that i did because i still have friends and classmates who don't even know what to do with them
Yes definitely - I've watched your student loan journey and you've made great progress! You just gotta take it one payment at a time.
All very great tips for new grads.
absolutely agreed! and friends are the worst actually.. and the gift as well, because without friends you're nothing.. but friends can eat your whole wallet empty... mostly, you do it to yourself! totally agree! thanks for sharing!
OMG so true - that's why it's important to surround yourself with friends who share a similar mindset! Thanks for watching!
@@AlexQuinnYT absolutely, and that's why I'm watching all these other youtubers with similar topics, so surround myself with like minded people :)
These are all such valid points! Those things can add up so quickly.
Indeed, lifestyle inflation happens very fast after college. Wise tips 🖖
But Alex, why should I save for retirement when I can ball out in my Mercedes Benz car and have Gucci bags and belts
You're asking the real questions here... 🤔
Great list - reminding to focus on wise financial decisions from the start!
Thank you!

I completely agree - lifestyle inflation especially is super easy to fall into by accident if you're not really conscious of it. Thanks for watching!
These are some great tips to avoid! I totally agree with you that your 20s is the decade that is really important if your goal is to reach financial independence in your 30/40s! Great video looking forward to more in the future!
Absolutely! Thank you so much for your watching :)
Great video here. Spend less than you earn and make more money from different sources helps too. Happy to support!
Absolutely - thanks for watching! 😊

Omg thank you so much!! I appreciate the kind words. :)
Love the list, great tips! I never thought of drinking in bars as a lifestyle inflation before haha
I'm guilty of mistake 3 and 4. I didn't want to pay off my student loans when I finally got that consistent paycheck after college. Fantastic tips!
It can definitely feel daunting right? Thanks for watching! :)
Omg number one was not what I was expecting but it is SO true!! My first job was as a veterinary technician... people do NOT give enough consideration to the financial aspects of pet ownership. 💚 Glad you brought it up!
Absolutely! Dogs cost way more than just the adoption fee and the monthly food. Thank you so much for watching!

Good advice for my High School graduates I teach as well!
Absolutely! Luckily student loans aren't really a thing for high school though. 😂
I want one of those Chevy “beaters” lol
Pregame really makes the difference. Definitely helps not spending so much on nights out when you graduate. Enjoyed the vid!
Definitely! And college students should be used to pregaming so it should be easy to continue doing it. Thanks for watching!

Not getting after that student debt is 1 for me!
Great video! I have often struggled with the issue of paying down student loan debt vs investing. Loan forgiveness opportunities have ultimately been the deciding factor for me though.
Good luck with loan forgiveness! It's a great option if it's available to you.
@@AlexQuinnYT thank you! I just hope I get it. I have 5 more years to go.
Man when I came out of college that lifestyle inflation and going out every weekend really got me good.....luckily I recovered but could’ve be so much further along 😭👍
Same same 😭 Oh well, it's not productive to regret the past!
I felt equally attacked and inspired by this video.
Great tips Alex! I wish I saw this video when I graduated 😅
Thank you!

Haha thank you so much! And yeah, it can be really hard to downgrade once you're used to living a certain lifestyle. Thanks for watching!
Definitely agree with especially take advantage of compound interest by kick starting your investment and savings early

Thanks for watching!

Haha yes it's a balancing act for sure! Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for watching! Yes, a lot of people seem surprised by the first tip - I think most people don't realize how expensive dogs are!
Pretty sure most people have made some of these mistakes for sure hahaha, hopefully this helps future students! Haha
Definitely - thanks for watching!
Brain: don't comment on the car analogy, don't comment on the car analogy ...
Me: GIRLLL YOU EVER DRIVEN A PORSCHEEEE
In all seriousness, the dog point is the most accurate and most applicable one to the youngins, especially in Toronto where the avg condo is getting smaller and smaller ...
Hahaha omg I knew someone would get on my case for that car reference. 😂 And yes - the costs of owning a dog go way beyond just the adoption fee and food!
@@AlexQuinnYT No no it was totally reasonable :p
All tips are great but Love tip #1 don't get a dog!! So expensive. And cleaning is very difficult.
Isn't it funny how the time we don't know the most about investing is the time where it's the most important!? lol thanks for sharing!!
Absolutely! I'm so glad I found the FIRE community at such a young age. Thanks for watching!
Haha, my wife keeps asking for a dog, and all I ever see are dollar signs and the bank hurting. AGREE 100%! 🤑
I still plan on getting a dog, but I'm waiting until I'm in a better financial position! Thanks for watching. 😊
