As a child growing up in Antigua, I still remember the ash falling from the sky from Montserrat. I was only five but that memory has stayed with me decades later.
im the same with the ash from Mt St Helens in Washington state. Its eerie.
I can see why. It must be crazy and creepy.
i was burned in 1928 and revived as a new born baby in 1989 i still dream of that day and times
Abandoned places looks so peaceful yet scary.

What's amazing there's always abandoned cities and towns and we still have millions of homeless people.
IKR
Isn't it amazing, 10s of thousands of years ago, Neanderthals had already worked it all out. I make this, you make that, I grow this, you catch that and we all share and we all live. It took rules, laws, money, society and greed to get what is called success today. It's a pathetic sight.
Abandoned cities means no upkeep. Pretty sure the vast majority of homeless wouldn’t be able to maintain ghost towns enough to survive. And governments won’t pay to maintain land just to keep a roof over homeless people’s heads. For them, if it don’t make dollars it dont make sense. Sad state of the world. Also nature and stuff like volcanoes and floods and such, even homeless wouldn’t want to live around all that
Yes but unfortunately these places need to be rehabilitated to be classified as liveable, that costs money, money a lot of governments and ppl won’t chip on
@@JessicaTG2008what? Lol who told you Neanderthals had this utopian equality? First off we don’t know enough about them. Second, what we do know is that they had conflict and war. Some Neanderthals show evidence of starvation while others from the same time frame and in close proximity did not. Suggesting hierarchy. There is even evidence to suggest they participated in cannibalism. However the only proven thing is that they had battle injuries from conflict. What is with people romanticizing the past? While Neanderthals and older humans were likely more intelligent that we think they were far from perfect and we have closer to an equal world now that societies of the past. We can come as close to equality as possible but we will likely never achieve full equality. No living being ever has.
The amount of waste in the world is mind boggling
Why so ?
Yah..same thought. All those castle homes..just left to rot..why not let poor people take it over its just sitting there empty! Better then letting them just rot.
@@dawnsmith6610 yeah like no wonder there is so many homeless people like why can’t they have the houses that are just abandon not poisoned but just sitting there
@@lindsayheliker8988 you realize homelessness isn’t caused by abandonment of buildings right ?

I really like the idea of abandoned cities and towns. I sometimes imagine that I lives in an abandoned town/city.
The way the Earth reclaims her space once a place is abandoned is absolutely phenomenal!!!
Oh, and I'd spend a whole week on North Brothers Island exploring and sleeping in those old abandoned buildings!
That one reminded me of the movie, Shutter Island!

Logan Paul won so your comment didn't age well
North Brother Island sounds like a adventure of sorts. It would be a blast at my age of 73 to ramble around and see how others really lived. Must be old cars and trucks in the area

Lesson: Do no plan for a permanent home in a mining town.
Right
its never been planned as permanent, most of mining areas are in the middle of nowhere, who would want to work in the middle of nowhere? so mining companies build towns there so they can attract workers
And don’t plan on living permanently in a town where nearly everyone works at the same place in the same industry. Looking at you Detroit.
Yup and apparently don’t notice the 2005 f250 super duty at 3:23 in the background too!

I clicked on this video in hopes that Pripyat would be mentioned. So glad it was. I've always had a fasination with Pripyat/Chernobyl since I read about it when I was in middle school. I would love to go there one day. I know its weird, but I can't help it. Its beautiful 🖤
Your name checks out yo 😂
But yeah pripyat fascinates me too. Nuclear disaters are a morbid obsession of mine, plus i like reading about ghost towns so pripyat ticks all the right boxes for me
Is anyone NOT interested in pripyat? Is the most well known, and amazing looking place. From 50,000 people to just a couple tourists and guards. So fascinating.
Actually, you can go there. But only with a guide. This, because there are a number of buildings and other places, wich are still highly radioactive.
Always hope for asbestos you can!
That town with the dolls literally made me tremble in fear. That is the greatest scary movie idea.
When I saw the walking skeleton that was edited in I jolted in fear as I didn't expect that
Actually if you watch the movie "The Stand" there is an abandoned town with mannequins all over. Everyone died but a character that didn't know any better.

Another factor that seriously adds to the creepiness of North Brother Island is that when the steamship The general Slocum burned, many of the dead washed up on its shores.

Those poor ex-soldiers, worked to death in mines.
Homeless ppl could go there and own those houses
And die of radiation, dioxin or asbestos? Or live in desolate areas where once the natural resources (e.g. diamonds, coal etc.) have been exhausted, there’s nothing present to support a human population? The land isn’t arable, so where will they get food? Clean water? Should they live in the Turkish ruins without running water, electricity, or roofs-aka protection from the elements.
The Disney mansions weren’t finished. So, whose going to pay to have them finished? And whose going to pay the utility bills for said homeless people?
Those large Soviet cities were not meant to accommodate people but to express totalitarian communist egos. The scales are so ridiculously large. How are the people suppose to get around these places?
Who wants free housing that comes with asbestos, dioxin, or radiation?
I’m not trying to attack you, btw. I’m just pointing out some things that wouldn’t work to actually help homelessness.
So many of these places could be used to help the homeless! I'm legit sick in my stomach seeing a community that was intended to house the rich and famous when they have absolutely have nothing to worry about as far as keeping a roof over their head! But a homeless person that is sleeping in the alley outback doesn't know what they will do for breakfast, lunch and dinner let alone when tomorrow comes...if they survive the day/night that is... 😑😡🙄 I just don't understand why these places that are fit to live are not used to help the poor people that desperately need the help! 🤷🤷🤷🤦😢😢😢 Just so sad...😢😢😢
So ship the homeless population to these abandoned cities...and then what? They won't have access to food or hospitals, or anything else really. But they'll be able to die with a roof over their head...
Mostly because the homeless won't go there. There's nothing to support them. Cities with populations, and generous people are better.
@@billwenham I was referring to the homeless in that country. I'm sure there are homeless everywhere. And, as for doctor visits and hospitals, they should provide some kind of public transportation to and from until these people can get on their feet. I'm sorry but that is just how I feel. We are all entitled to our own opinion. I respect what you are saying and understand that it probably would be difficult but I can't help but get upset when I see empty places like these sitting and rotting away when so many people would be very thankful to have any roof over their head compared to living on the streets. That's all. Again, I understand and respect what you are saying. I probably should have worded my comment better so that nobody misunderstood and thought I meant to send our homeless over there. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Hope you have a good evening! ✌🏻🙋🤘🏻
@@donswearingen9805 I do agree with you Don when it cones to the homeless here in our home country. But, like I said in my recent reply, I was referring to the homeless there as I'm sure they have homeless in every country. Sorry for any misunderstanding in my comment and again, I probably should have worded it better. I just believe some countries should do more to help their homeless and seeing a video like this with so many nice houses sitting and rotting when they could be fixed up and used to help the homeless.... It just upsets me and I can't help but rant a bit because sadly so many really just don't care at all. That's all I'm saying. Hope you have a nice evening! ✌🏻🙋🤘🏻
Like in California all the homeless people cause it's super liberal and good weather. Send them to Boron AFS, food is cheap, rice, pasta, PB&J. A good way to solve the homeless population is winter, when I was stationed in Montana there were no homeless cause winters are super cold and they dont get free stuff.
Varosha was not kept as a "Buffer Zone" as you said. It has been held as a bargaining chip, with Turkey offering to hand it back to the Greek Cypriot former inhabitants if the Republic of Cyprus recognises the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus. They have refused for 47 years so far, so it has remained untouched; however the Turkish Cypriot authorities are now coming to realise that the Greek Cypriot side won't budge so they are beginning to open up parts of the city. On the fateful morning in the summer of 1974, I left my home in one the blocks of flats you see along the seafront at 7am, only 5 hours before the Turkish troops reached the city. Varosha (or as we generally called it at the time Famagusta) was a fantastic place to grow up. I remember it with great fondness.
"Deception Island sounds like a nice place to visit."
"That's probably what it wants you to think."
Been there, You can sail a ship right into the cauldron. The island do belong to the British, The Norwegians Whaling company paid the UK rent to use the island, when Britain first discovered the Island 200 plus years ago, it was not a c-shape island, it was a mountain, on returning the top of the mountain was gone leaving a c-shape island and the highest spot about 650 metres above the sea, Located in Antarctica in the South Shetland Islands
