Some will find this hard to believe, but this is my story. I was born prem 60 years ago and only given a 5% chance to live. My earliest recall was laying in the humicrib feeling lonely. 55 years later I sat with a Christian friend and I informed him of a fear I have had with me for as long as I can remember. I know I am no coward yet still the fear was there. Spiritual transference through trauma is such a thing apparently. A five minute prayer, memory recalled, the "spirit" of fear was spoken to, and removed by the Blood of Christ. I have been fear free for the last 5 years. Sure wish someone had shared that truth 30 years ago, there were so many things I wanted to do and fear held me back.

I have that same little troll ,as I call him , he fucks with me a lot . I got 30 miles down the road on my bike and turn around shaking so bad I almost couldn't ride . went home and head in my room for 2 days . but I'm kicking his ass now and going in a lot of trips and quitting work in march on the 14th to ride
My demon is terminal Cancer, breast to the brain... after brain surgery and a diagnosis of 3 to 4 months to live I am fighting that demon and here I am almost 2 years later and still fighting.. Cannot ride my bike mainly the drugs I am on anymore after a Pan, a Shovelhead and 45 years of riding and many of the time with my horses, but I still go to the barn and feed twice a day. Don't let the fear get you, would be easy to just give up, giving up is certain death. Love your life and live it... You only get one.. A lot of people think seniors are duh, but we have so much to offer in experience, good or bad, learn from or experiences... Peace Out....

Excellent insight on fear. I can see hear my fear demon talking to me in my voice all the time. Scotty, when I am out and about with my kids I find myself constantly saying, "Be careful". Every time I do that now I think of you. Now when I tell them to "Be Careful" I think to myself, "Am I teaching my children safety or fear?" We are not meant to live life in fear but we constantly volunteer for it.

I was the opposite. When i was young on my first motorcycle i couldn't wait to bust out of the city on road trips. In later life i bought 30 acres of forestland and built a home. Now i don't go anywhere unless i have to. 😅
I could do it if I could get that fear to stfu I did it for a few months during covid it was easy near mountains or forests but once I reached the midwest it got hard to find free camping on nothing but flat farmland and I got lonely at times my friends are far apart, died or wound up in the forced labor camp we call America, the 2 weeks a year vacation isn't enough for anyone to fully unwind by the time someone relaxes it is time to clock in again.

I 100% get it, I've been to Florida four times this year from Michigan in Texas once the anxiety of that little prick on my shoulder always starts about a week before I roll out of the driveway about 5:00 a.m. in just about the Ohio border my grip loosens and I start to relax by the time I hit the Foothills in Kentucky I'm flying around the corner and dropping down into a valley that's more than 20 miles wide as the crow flies and I've come to the conclusion destination is all right but my favorite part is the journey roll-on Mister Scott
Yeah, some 25 years back, planning for my first across Europe motorcycle trip, I had a really stubborn demon talking to me for day's about all the dangers and things that could happen on the road. I had to fasten all my luggage twice on my motorcycle the day I left !

There's only one thing that could keep me in one place these days. And I'm not sure that THAT, would actually keep me down. But there's a whole lot of civil chaos coming our way. Probably this fall. Surviving this, ESPECIALLY on the road could be tuff. Then again, it could make it easier to survive. (Depending on a persons skills and experience) Our freedoms have eroded SO much, and our "rule of law", is in such shambles, that the 'peace', to actually roam in relative safety is threatened. There's enough "fears" to overcome in a normal world of travel, without piling on the anarchy that may be coming. While is could be as bad as a "grid down" scenario, (Think the movie "The Road") traveling these days through areas that don't allow you to be armed gives me pause. What I'd be prepared for most is civil unrest. The beginnings of all this is what Scotty, and so many others, are dealing with now. And that's censorship. (The first thing to go in a dystopian society). I never thought I'd see in my lifetime, what I'm seeing today in this country and the world. IMO, with what I see that is coming, if or when you travel, you may need to consider doing it such as in the days of old. Like a mountain men looking constantly over their shoulder as they traveled through food procurement, hostile enemies, wild predators, dangerous weather, etc. etc. This is NOT to negate the message of what Scotty said. All this warning does is to get you thinking about preparation. If what I think is coming actually happens, it only goes to heighten the adventure. You only live once. Living in fear and allowing fear to steal your thunder is a mistake. But do it wisely. It is a mistake to "stop dreaming". It is a mistake to "stop planning". It is a mistake to not chase your adventure. It's a MAJOR mistake to NOT ride your damn bike!
