Hey Michael, nice to see another episode! I really like these close up shots - perfect for an overcasting day... thanks for sharing another chill video with some nice images and your thoughts behind them ✌️😊
I love this style of Abstract in nature. I do it often and I totally understand your feeling of not being able to stop as the possibilities are endless, and the curiosity of the unknown is such a good feeling
These are world class. I know the feeling of being super excited about taking a photo and then getting home going “what was I thinking?” It’s just part of the process. Cheers!
Love it Michael. Exploring the smaller, finer details of nature can be incredibly rewarding. I often find myself looking for the "majestic" image and feel discouraged when the light/weather does not offer me that chance to express the image that I have stuck in head. This leads me to overlooking all of the fantastic opportunities that are right in front of me. Thanks for the reminder!
Your work is always inspiring. Love learning from your expertise but also find your content and delivery so relaxing. The final result belies the work that you have to do to achieve your extraordinary end results Michael.
Michael I really like your videos, because in your simplicity and humility, you take out extraordinary photographs, you remind paintings of the Renaissance painters...thanks!
As a photographer that shoots a lot in northern Minnesota, I have found many great locations for abstract images. Whether it's in Jay Cooke State Park, trekking the many rivers or along the shore of Lake Superior, there is so much potential for natural art. Even winter provides unique opportunities for abstracts in ice. Keep your eyes open and keep exploring.
Funny coincidence that this came up, it's late milkyway season here in Oz so between moon phases I've been going out during the day to an old sandstone quarry a couple of kilometres away from my house and taking isolated images of all the patterns using my kit 55-250mm lens and it's a great way to keep a camera in your hands
In my humble opinion, the location you chose presents quite a challenge, especially since you're not focusing on landscape photography. However, the results exceeded expectations. I particularly enjoyed the shots at 7:27 and 7:52
Your video reminds me once again that we don’t have to despair when hiking if the sky isn’t clear enough. There is so much we can capture when it comes to landscapes. Without the sun, moon, or stars, we still have rocks, sand, and textures. We can focus on the “small” things and don’t always have to take the “big” photos.
I really started to change the way I shot when I got a GFX camera and I know it's not about the camera but the GFX render such amazing detail that I could truly sculpture something out of rock or some sand or even a leaf and it totally changed the way I shoot. I'm still shooting some traditional white angle landscape stuff because at the end of the day that kind of image sells really well whereas these top of images yeah they're nice to but when printed they're probably not gonna go on many peoples walls because they're not popular even though I personally love this style of art I know many people ordering, photos we want a wide angle shot and that's okay. But back to this kind of stuff I really love it great work and it has given me a few ideas. I love doing seascapes like this.
Really inspirational video today Michael. You seem to have a real knack for finding these faces in the tighter frames you photograph on your adventures. I will have to start finding some myself pretty soon.
I make landscape photographs in a big city, so it isn't just the weather that's not a good excuse. Photographs can be found anywhere. And one of my current series is of pareidolia (when the human brain recognises something that's nor really there, often a face) in tree trunks. So, I spend a lot of time looking at trees, often up close. I"m sure people around me must think I'm crazy ;)
They're really interesting compositions Michael. I'm seeing a lot of mythological type faces, men with hooked noses and mustaches and lots of face masks. The bluish grinning face looks like an avant-garde Easter Island figure to me.
Wonderful imagery Michael. The Picasso face image @6:11 has me seeing a teenage mutant ninja turtle face with black headband/eyemask crawling from it's shell, the right hand third a Conger eel head with huge eye and mouth open and a turtle claw on it's head. Maybe I'm on too much medication, but either way I love the shot.
I've always loved your intimate and abstract scenes. One suggestion, if I may.. If you're asking for our feedback on images, it would be really helpful to us if you labeled them on screen for easier reference (e.g., Photo #7 looked like a T-Rex or Photo #5 was my favorite.)
Hey there, thanks so much! So, the way to tag the photo you want to discuss is simply to put the time code. So 7:39, for example, and this will automatically go straight to that part of the video when anyone clicks it! :)
Your Picasso face image made me think of two hockey players colliding face to face. I even see the padding on their legs. How strange! I don’t watch hockey at all!!
@JohnHPettigrewFujishooter67 0 seconds ago Michael I love this type of photography and the images are stunning, I do a lot of this myself and recently posted a couple of youtube videos, would love you to check out the images and give me your thoughts, one thing I noticed when looking at your images is the amount of depth you have in the shots amazing 3D, compared to my own images which seem a bit flat. Would be interesting to see one of your processing videos on your rock abstracts. Another thing I have tried which I spotted in your mud tile video was inverting the colour, works really well for rock image too. Thanks for sharing.

Let me know what you see in these photographs, or which one is your favorite below!
There's a word for this - "Pareidolia". You prehistoric mood picture is definitely an elephant

That spot on the coast is a gem. The shapes and color mix within the rocks are fascinating. You came out with some cool abstracts.
Another stunning video from a hugely talented photographer! Thanks for sharing this inspiring content, Michael.

What a great location for abstract images. Loved it.
Excellent images!
I am blessed with similar landscapes full of amazing rock formations in Kutch region of Gujarat, India, where I am based !!
Beautiful photos!
These are world class.
I know the feeling of being super excited about taking a photo and then getting home going “what was I thinking?”

I love your abstract photography, Michael. The photo you show at 6:15 reminded me of one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Haha awesome, thanks for the thoughts Mark! There are no wrong answers, everything is open to interpretation!

@ 12:05 a wolf’s head sniffing your leg. 😁
That first one looks like an owl 😀
A leatherback turtles head @ 4:23
Hy sony A6400 can use for landscape photography?
Any best lens for that
Michael crushing all these shots despite shooting everything handheld still gives me anxiety lol.
I'm wondering what those shapes would look like if you were laying on the ground photographing them in an almost level plain.
4:55 I see a goblin looking creature with eyes, ears, and a mouth or a white mask in a Picasso art style
3:29 I see a knight with a helmet on
Your Picasso face image made me think of two hockey players colliding face to face. I even see the padding on their legs. How strange! I don’t watch hockey at all!!
That is a fascinating interpretation, I like that a lot!

Where exactly on the California coast is this? The location reminds me of Gerstle Cove in Salt Point State Park. You got some great shots!
Pretty sure you nailed the location.
