Every video you make is like a mini-masterpiece I swear! The cinematography, the compositions, and the storytelling make it so much more immersive than most of the content out there. Nicely done on the shots too! Stoked you were able to get some cool photos after all of these years!
I have been to the Mammoth Lakes area twice now. It is gorgeous and yet I always come back with crap photos. Everywhere I look there is beauty but when I get home and look at the photos, they're bummer time... I feel you
I keep saying this, but it's a damn shame this channel is sub 100k or even sub 1 million. No bullshit about gear, just "let's go for a hike and take some pics" with ASMR voice over. Keep up the great work. I love this channel.
I really appreciate the kind words, I love making these videos. Perhaps I could grow this channel very quickly if I did weekly videos, but I would really have to degrade the quality. Thanks for your support!
@@MichaelShainblum yup I know - we all know too - that is why so many of us (at least me) try to leave some comment. Even if it is what I had for breakfast ;-)
That "way cooler when I was there" is a bit like the mental "weight" of a lion when you're on safari, snap!! Wow! Get it home, and the lion is almost microscopic; -) similar thing, where emotion amps up the image...but, hey, you did some really nice work, for being prepared for a 'nothing' outing!
Wow Michael! I just love your photos and videos! They are truly inspirational I had the good fortune of driving from San Fran all the way to Olympic National Park! It was the trip of a lifetime for someone who loves adventure! One of the absolute highlights was The Redwoods! I did a 6 hr hike during covid and saw only 2 people the entire time! All I could hear were the birds in the sky, my own footsteps and my own heart beat! It was Epic beyond words! It’s an astonishing part of the world! Thanks again for the video and photos. 👌👌👌
Thanks you for this beatiful video and those beautiful images. After seeing this, I am even more motivated go back to my woods, scout, and try new compositions
I live minutes from a trail packed with tall maples and oaks, 5 waterfalls, and Lake Superior, and I have very few pics I like - as they don’t did the experience justice. Thank you for the video, I won’t give up!
You got some lovely images there Michael… I have forests that don’t seem to deliver and then suddenly some fog and light appear that reveal what I’m looking for
I really enjoyed your philosophy to not give up. Thank you. I live in Northern Nevada and am surrounded by the endless skies and sage brush seas. I live here surrounded by beauty and struggle to capture that beauty that I see to share with everyone else. I have be shooting this area for 20 years and still struggle to get that shot.
Thank you Michael for the inspiration! After watching this, I'm going out and going to find the things you taught. I am hoping for good winds as I am going to photograph the waves splashing one of my favorite lighthouses in Port Washington, Wi. Thanks buddy!
Magnific work and beatiful photos. Congratulations from Extremadura in Spain. Thank's for this trip. I really felt there. I have loved redwoods since I was a child. You have a new follover.
I struggle with forests. The dappled sunlight on undergrowth of fern and moss, the sense of calm but foreboding as you stare of into a seemingly never ending landscape of vertical boles along a curving landscape, the fog or mist that sometimes rolls thru. I can never get it right. Thanks for this video!
5:30, yes that was a really good one! 👏 A tip: Take a red jacket and place your self in the redwood forest with all these trees, that would help a lot to really see the majestic trees there.
The Hoh Rainforest .... shot my first frame there in 1978... and in all these years, ive never felt i could capture the feeling i get walking through that landscape...
Photographers are like musicians, We're are own worse critics. I see so much beauty in your still shots you have no idea. Sometimes mother nature reminds us just how small we are compared to her. We would have to be 100 foot tall giants with 2 ton cameras to get the big picture of the beauty of the Redwoods. Your video quality is 110% too. Good work man.
Man, I only just discovered your chanel. After watching a few videos, I gotta admit, you're my favourite YT photographer at the moment. Great photos and videography too, nice balance of technical and artistic approach, and very fitting choice of music to match the mood and the tone of your voice. Well done dude. Keep up the great work!
Hi Michael. Thank you for another beautiful and inspirational video. I can only dream of having an eye like you do - not jealous at all lol. Your videos are always such a joy to watch and your editing is sublime. Thanks again - Sam
Your honesty made me laugh in recognition. Somehow, it's affirming to know someone of your photographic caliber has similar challenges and frustrations. Your work is so inspiring and a personal presence to match. Thanks so much!
I've done photography in the Redwoods. It was difficult for me the first couple of times I visited too, but I was able to start finding compositions after my third time the. It's a fun area to photo. Really enjoyed your shots at 9:53 and 8:38.
Thanks for this video. I've experienced the same feelings of excitement for a certain location I visit often, only to be disappointed when importing my photos into lightroom. Your words really resonated with me. The point is to get out as much as possible and enjoy the journey, treating each outing as an opportunity to get closer to nature. Getting the occasional "great shot" is just icing on the cake.
Always enjoy Michael!!! Great work! Have been to the Redwoods once for photography amd I aswell struggled a bit. Headed back there in June 2024 and so excited. The beauty of that location is almost overwhelming
Yep! I am the same way. I visit beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest. Glacier National Park is one of them. I have taken some nice photos, but it seems I am not quite happy with them. Thank you. Very nice video. Your photographs are beautiful.
Winston Churchill gave a good bit of advice once “never, never give up” and I think of that every time I try and photograph mossy trees in the Caitlin’s or Fiordland in NZ. I love them, love taking pics, but my images almost without fail, fall short. But I will keep To never giving up, and enjoying the adventure. Nice vlog Michael.
Dude I’m so pumped! I’m taking a trip to crescent city in two weeks and although it’s a family vacation I have planned lots of time for photography and this series on the redwoods is perfect timing! Can’t wait to get out there myself and do the same! Great video!
What an amazing spot...would love to go to a Redwood forest someday...way to keep at it! Those "waves" photos near the end 13:44 are one of those photos you can "hear" in your mind.
Hi what say really resonates with me my wood is called Great Wood in Quantock Hills Somerset England I have visited many times quite busy and cluttered lots distractions! But will return! Great video wonderfull scenery and photos best wishes Anthony😊
Hi Michael, I found your channel through Nigel Dansen's video where you critiqued his photos....that was so good! But, wow, this video has really inspried me. I live in Eureka, California at the Redwood Coast and have never found a redwood composition that I loved. I drive to Oregon a lot, as my son lives there, and it is almost always foggy up near Crescent City. So....thank you, I am going to drive up this weekend and walk through the redwoods to see if I can find a shot...or two.
Great video, Michael. It was great to meet on Memorial Day weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed talking with you as we walked on the Damnation Creek trail. Your beautiful photos make me want to use the Sony kit and shoot on the Tripod.
I loved this one soooo much, Michael! So many relatable things you said. It made me want to go through my redwoods photos all over again! And that last photo of the beach and water…just incredible.
thanks for the forest inspiration Michael. My home is surrounded by forest but it can be difficult to find anything original. At least now it is mushroom season so lots of fungi to capture.
I live on Vancouver Island, and I find woodland photography here on the west coast to be so difficult. I mean it must be difficult everywhere, but man I'm sure there's something to be said about the chaotic wild growth on the coast. Many times I've been out and just as you've said, been so caught up in the beauty and the overall experience that I'm running rampant with my camera to shoot anything and everything, only to not like anything back at home. This last time over the weekend, I went for a good walk in a beautiful area in decent conditions, but nothing stood out to me. I didn't even take out my camera, but I don't regret that walk at all. Really is a relief, and inspiring at the same time, to see that you have had the same struggles! Wonderful images of course! And can't wait for good fog on a morning or evening off now!
What an incredible place…certainly on my bucket list…looks like you chose the perfect day …very painter,y quality images…stay blessed and thank you for sharing
As a young adult, I lived for a few years in Finland. And that's where I picked up photography. And I absolutely love this country. But I still haven't been able to do it justice, photographically... Good to hear you're happy with what you got on this trip!
I guess in addition to all the other necessary components, landscape photography is like real estate: Location, location, location. What a location!
The drone frame at 15:01 almost looks like the mountain line at Yosemite. Great shot.
Glad you dig it man, thanks!
What a treat Michael thank you.
Danke!
Thank you so much for the support Roland!
3:17 this is such a beautiful shot
Totally agree. I really like this shot!
Every video you make is like a mini-masterpiece I swear! The cinematography, the compositions, and the storytelling make it so much more immersive than most of the content out there. Nicely done on the shots too! Stoked you were able to get some cool photos after all of these years!
Pity you couldn't capture the images with smell a vision. Or maybe you did!!! Looks so refreshing. Thank you.
I have been to the Mammoth Lakes area twice now. It is gorgeous and yet I always come back with crap photos. Everywhere I look there is beauty but when I get home and look at the photos, they're bummer time... I feel you
Brilliant, Michael! really stellar work.
Mr. Shainblum, you inspire me to keep going out to take photos.
Man this was an insanely good video and the images resulting from it were 🤯!!
Thanks Mark, hope you are doing well man :)

Your work is inspiring!!
Awesome as always! You don't need the "leave your comment below" - the quality of the work speaks for itself all the time!
Thanks so much, Amit I really appreciate it! Haha I know, I know just trying to play a little bit of this RUclips game ;)
@@MichaelShainblum yup I know - we all know too - that is why so many of us (at least me) try to leave some comment.

Already got soo excited once I went into the video!!
Thanks for inspiring me to go out and shoot today. Brilliant video.

I spent a week camping in those redwoods last year. And literally just finished filming an elopement there. Such a beautiful location
Stunning photos and footage. Especially watching in 4K.

I've seen others go to the redwoods and struggle for images too!
Beautiful red wood forest

thanks for the forest inspiration Michael. My home is surrounded by forest but it can be difficult to find anything original. At least now it is mushroom season so lots of fungi to capture.
