I became an analyst (technical consultant) It’s great. I still code, just not as heavily. I came from a background in sales, so those people skills became a highlight of my resume leading me to this role. I thought I wanted to be an engineer. Now I’m realizing this might be more valuable for me because the combination of technical-social skills is quite rare. You should feel good if recruiters are pushing you in that direction, cuz it’s hard for them to find people like that!
Thank you Stef for answering my email!
No problem.
Lol
"Speak Nerd AND Human'
I fkn Love u man, this is TRUE!!!
I am a solutions analyst for NTT DATA Benelux (Belgium). I work on big projects with the European Comission, Nato, WHO, etc. mostly with Drupal stack. My job is to conduct workshops with stakeholders, and UX team to determine the functional requirements of the website. I then test modules and talk with expert Drupal coders to see if the features are technically feasible. I then write a functional inventory (in excel) and a functional analysis (in Word) with all the features of the website. These include site-wide elements, site sections, content management, user roles, etc. The Documents are reviewed and approved by the stakeholders. This is to assure that both parties have agreed on the business needs of the website and can go ahead with the creation. I assume I got this job because I have the soft skills (developed from sports coaching) with some genereal coding/tech (self-taught) skills.
Nice post. 👍
Thank you for your post. I have two interviews next week for two big companies in Belgium and i wanted a more technical position but they propose me a functional analyst position. Now I'm a bit lost. I don't know if i should push for something more technical.
just the content i have been looking for
You will be paid to continue to learning! Take the opportunity. Good luck.
Practically in the same boat. I have a pretty good base of all round coding languages ranging from nearly all java based one's to HMTL CSS and even SQL. What i've found is that I have exceptional soft skills for my age and most people describe me as a natural leader in team based projects.
So now instead of my desired job as a .NET developer they asked me if I wanted to become a functional analyst ( having no idea what the job entails I couldn't really say yes yet ) after a few weeks of training.
From the interview it seems like the job description fits me to the T and I won't let this opportunity go since that would be a big loss as a young IT guy trying to start his career. I think I can be very succefull in this job from what I've read and heard. So I guess the world is telling me where I should be? Whish me luck!
Good luck!
I am an SAP functional consultant but feel I should go for a developer role … I am thinking this from pat 7 years ..I am thinking from financial perspective..I can understand code as well good in communication skills and also understand business as I have background in BE in electronics and communication and Also MBA in marketing and operations….
Lets say recruiters wanted him for a ui/ux role, would you still advise him to take the job?
Depends on his goals. But all things being equal .. yes. The foot in the door.
What does a functional analyst do? All I see on google is related to mathematical algebra

Can a functional analyst work remotely? I used to work as an ERP functional staff, I work with those analysts from the ERP partner company. Mostly they travel to their clients office.
Yes I just accepted a job as one, fully remote and travel to clients !
