Has anybody actually spent serious time with these AI code 'partners'... well I HAVE, and I'll tell you, they suck a$$. You want to put yourself into a perpetual iterative hell on earth, start a REAL project with an AI coding partner. You will spend 80% of your time working out ways to help the AI over it's insane toolbox of errors. Let's start with 'memory'. It just forgets every 30 min. at best. I call it a 'black out'. What's worse is that the AI doesn't warn you. It just goes off grid for about 10 seconds, comes back and tries to 'Act' like it hasn't forgotten everything you have worked on for the last 30 min. So you build prompts, and config files, and markdown documentation files and readme's and instruction manuals so that when you see the AI blackout, you can direct it to these documents. It comes back and says that it read them, then continues on as though it did not bother and has no idea what you are talking about. You eventually get to the point where the AI is spending 20 min. of it's 30 min memory window re-learning and re-reading the project documentation. Oh, and how about when I tried to just write a small utility and asked AI to help me using python with built in gui, and postgresql. No API, No MVC, No web tech. I mean as simple as it comes. I explicitly told it to NOT USE OOP. let's just have simple functions and pass arguments. really super simple. So, what did my AI partner do, While we were implementing functions and updating the gui code, the AI was re-writing my other functions in the background and converting some of them to classes and methods without me knowing. Didn't even find those errors until hours later when stuff just stopped working. three days just up in smoke. When the AI tries to fix it, since they can't remember for more than 30min. they fake it and just try to rebuild an generic app that does not work. After all of that HELL, they say to you, "oh, you're right, sorry. buy more credits and we'll try again..." You are literally working with a Schizophrenics Maniac with Multiple personality disorder. But hey, they're polite.
Keep receipts when Zuck and others say these things. If an AI model creates its first major vulnerability or outage (like the Crowdstrike one), there will be a lot of backpedaling and revisionist history.

While the industry has undeniably evolved, there is still a thriving market for tailored solutions for small businesses, startups, and niche markets. Not every company needs a full-scale enterprise solution or a team of developers to achieve their goals. Many small businesses, for instance, still rely on affordable, custom websites to establish an online presence. Furthermore, the rise of no-code and low-code platforms has empowered individuals to create scalable applications without needing a traditional CS degree. These tools have democratized the industry and allowed people to deliver value without the massive overhead of enterprise-level programming.
