I picked up a Carlos Dolly randomly with Rollerblade wheels but I've never used it. I dont want to buy and haul giant metal pipes in my SUV. But the idea to use PVC is genius level right there. I'm curious how smooth you find that to be and if it's just way more than necessary where the bumps are so minuscule you don't even notice them or if you would prefer to use something like metal.
This was amazing... I watched the short film as soon as you guys put it out... And shared to a bunch of people... This was soo well done... I couldn't stop laughing at the part when he says... "I like em too" and the killer guy starts laughing.... 😂😂😂
70% of this video is you trying to use yourself as proof but not wanting to sound vain. But give yourself some credit for some great work man! Also, I like how you guys use real cinema cameras and feel like using an FX3 is an "ego dip" but I took my Fuji X-T3 and put it in a rig and pretend it's a "cinerig" haha. Oh, also, shooting "nearside key" makes me think a lot about the show "Barry". They do it a lot there, and it looks amazing!
Loved the short and loved this breakdown, great work Carlo! Fun to see you and Danny work together again, still can't wait to see the feature. Keep these breakdowns coming, I think I speak for lots of people when I say we're enjoying all of them!
yep overhead with venice 2 I've done and required some heavy duty rigging and bit of time lost and worst it didn't make the cut as the performance didn't match, fortunately I had plenty of coverage of the scene.
Hey Carlo! Love the video!! In your personal experience, how often do you end up using light meters to measure exposure for skin tones? I know nowadays with false colors in zebras. Some people may find them redundant but curious as to how often you use them. Thanks!
@@carlostigs awesome, good to know. Me and a friend are in our senior year of college and are working on a capstone short film project. Filming on the red Komodo in RED raw. I just don't think we will have the time to get the light meter out for every shot but luckily with false color built-in, we should be able to get everything exposed properly!
0:30 Haha, I think your reflections on the weirdness of complimenting someone's pants is amusing. Here in Sweden it almost feels like convention that when you meet your friends you compliment their outfits. It would not be strange or uncommon to hear someone say "cool jeans, I really like the color!" or "Nice pants, the fit is really great!" or simply "I like your pants, dude!". But, I think that a lustful serial killer request to try them on would make the compliment very uncomfortable haha. Great short film!
With this video I was able to see the "fail" the position of the legs. When pants off, its straight and the top down shot is bended. :D But I loved the video.
re-visiting this. love your breakdowns and the information you share about your craft. one suggestion on your small camera overhead setup, adding a second grip arm coming back to the stand to create a triangle for a little bit improved stability. you can sorta rig it with a cardellini and another grip head.
@9:25 yup! It works very well here, given the character And mood. From this angle you see more of his face blending with the shadows, which to me, amplifies how much of a psycho he is.
Thank you Gian Carlo for your insight and experience. Does Danny use that convenience store a lot? How much did you guys use the FX3 vs the Venice for the short?
As I said under Danny's video, you two make a winning pair (yeah I know I said pair... pants... no pun intended!). Great work, the short is gorgeous! 💪 And these breakdowns, they are gold.
The tracking shot felt different to me. The shadows on the Venice look better. 99% of the 'normal' viewers won't notice though. Great case of using the right tool at the right time
Nice work as always. Personal question: Does it hurt a bit buying the venice last year with the upcoming Burano?🥲by the way am I the only one thinking it sounds like: "yeah one Burano with extra sauce please!"
Beautifully put brother.
❤️
I appreciate your film breakdowns bro, simple and easy to follow! You and Danny are a great duo and you both speak highly of each other 😮💨🔥
I appreciate that!
Great BTS. I loved the approach of using your DYI Home Depot dolly. No one would know that you used a make shift dolly for your shots. Brilliant idea.
Thank you! 😊

I wish I had someone to shoot film with. I got an fx6 but I think my location makes it harder to connect with other filmmakers
Hey bro did you shoot this open gate? Love the aspect ratio you guys used for this
What diffusion filter did you use on the camera for the short film?
I'll remember this intro. If I ever encounter you in the wild, I'm complimenting your pants.
Hahahahah
What lense did you pair with the fx3
Really fantastic work. Thank you for the breakdown!
what made you shoot on cine cam - vs any other. ?
BRO YOUR SHORT FILM WENT CRAZY. I watched it and didn't realize you made it until I stumbled upon this BTS vid lmaooo
We want a tutorial for the homemade dolly!
The DIY dolly is back! Loved the simple and direct setups done to grab amazing shots!
Yay! Thank you!
Carlo you think we can get a tutorial on the homemade dolly?

Not really honestly. I use false color a ton more

Bringing a person on for that steadicam shot would've been more money too and honestly. The gimbal and small camera works best for tracking shots man.
want to see more of that carlo dolly
Great thanks
yo please make a video on how you built the dolly! Would love to see what kind of homemade gear youve used through the years
I have one! Go to my channel and scroll
do you make a lut in pre production for on set monitoring or you use just a simple rec 709?
I had a pre LUT for monitoring but didn’t use for final grade

Do you have a "how to" on building that home-made dolly?

How much did you guys use the FX3 vs the Venice for the short?
First time using it! And we only used it for the top down full body and gimbal shot
The project reminded me so much of the end of the f***ing world. Both from the story, but above all from your work as DP. I like it very much!
Thank ya
The Creator is shot on fx3 🔥
killing it.

Much appreciated! Thank yiu
Awesome breakdown! I'm really learning a lot as an aspiring cinematographer! Also, I would like to ask what key light w/diffusion on did you use?
Glad it was helpful! And just a silk
Awesome work as always! I couldn't stop laughing while watching the shortfilm 😆
I'm glad!
Another brilliant breakdown and just a great video, thanks for making it!💥 Could you ever break down how you made the buttery smooth dolly of yours?
I have one! ruclips.net/video/iXKJ5u9Z4c4/видео.htmlsi=miTfP_Ghnt3PFbpY
Always appreciate these videos, execution on any level has their own challenges...!
Glad you like them!
insane work
awesome work again brother!
Thanks again!
I want that Tee, where did you get it!? Love your content!

@@carlostigs Just brought it :D

Thanks! And not really. I think each camera has its own purpose. I’m still very happy with the Venice
