These videos keep me motivated to pursue a career in cinematography. As an 18-year-old from a place with nonexistent film industry (Bosnia and Herzegovina) it's hard to get jobs. You kinda remind me of a guy I worked with as his AC and I feel like I'm on set watching these videos. Thanks for uploading these videos and keeping me from quitting this wild journey I'm on!
As someone who is a concert photog, and moving into video. This was very eye-opening as to how much work is required on something relatively minor. I look forward to seeing more of your BTS videos and you have a new subscriber!
The first shot (backlit) had that dreamy “The Handmaid’s Tale” look and looked fabulous! Also the small light used as an eye light was a great detail. Keep crushing!!
This was the best thing to watch for an aspiring short film creator! Great to see "how" a short film is created. Great interaction with the girl acting so she knew exactly what you wanted. This was really a great education.
Keep these BTS going Carlo! These BTS vids are both entertainment & educational. I learn so much from watching your crew work from the BTS pov. Aspiring Director/DP from Singapore 🇸🇬
great work ! love the content ! also the BTS on the movie" I Think I'm Sick " was so insightful and inspirational... the trailer for the film was very cinematic ... job well done. I look forward to more of your work and supporting your films and career. All the best from Toronto !
Ive had a break from filmmaking because life, but this has made me miss being on set. I enjoy the short indie/student shoots more than commercial work. Really nice bts!
Hey Carlo, thank you for this! Can you please make a video about your first big commercial experience as a DP and how you overcame that fear and doubt if there were any? I believe this will help quite a lot of upcoming DPs to overcome their doubts and fear when the day finally comes for them to work on a big project. I hope what I'm requesting makes sense 😬
Man Gian this is sooo goood i love the behind the scenes work im learning more and more from you and my framing is getting much better keep up your videos im all here for it new sub found you from Danny
At the end, you said you made some decisions that you would do differently in retrospect. I think that's a big learning opportunity for us. In the future, can you take some time to talk about what you would do different and why? That will allow us to learn along with you. Thank you!!!
Man, that looks like so much fun! Do you own most of your lights or do you rent? Also...I know you mostly focus on technique, would you ever do a video on what it's like negotiating a job with clients?
How did you make the transition from being a one man band, completing every aspect of the project, into working with a team of people that each have their own designated tasks? Having to do everything myself has taught me to appreciate people with niche roles and will definitely help me be able to communicate with a team but I have no idea where to even begin to build a team like you have on all your recent projects.
Trial and error. Getting on sets to watch DPs work is also important. But also learn about what makes a good leader and how you can look at yourself and better yourself
get yourself involved in any way in film and try to meet people, tell them what you like to do in film, tell them your inspirations, meet more people overtime and build a relationship
I truly enjoyed the BTS and it seems like an incredible day. Personally, I am a fan of horror. Just a small question, though. I understand that haze can make the world a better place, but what's your opinion on adding a subtle diffusion filter in front of the lens? I've heard that almost all DPs use a 1/8 Promist filter for almost all scenes. I'm still a bit nervous about this.
Hey Gian! Nice work as always. I have a question. At 15:40 when Hai is holding a small light near the camera towards the actress's face. Is that for achieving an eye light? Or just for fill? I've always wondered how to properly make an eye light.
Hi Gian, amazing work as always, would love to know what was the rough budget for this short. I do a lot of documentary stuff with little to no budget often with funding from BFI (British Film Institute), but even with that I cannot imagine having a crew this big, and this amount of expensive lighting. Would love to see a breakdown of how you get finance to create such stuff. Maybe it is easier to get funding in the US than in UK, but I can't imagine it is THAT different. Thanks

My pleasure!

Literally one of the top RUclips channels for filmmakers!
Man, you always have to love the sound guys, with the good vibes in the middle of the caos haha
The first shot (backlit) had that dreamy “The Handmaid’s Tale” look and looked fabulous! Also the small light used as an eye light was a great detail. Keep crushing!!
Awesome video Carlo, honestly I really appreciate all you do in the online/podcast space. Side note - I like Steve the sound mixer's energy!

Love this perspective. Makes you realize how the actor is simply often a small piece of the overall production.

Thanks!

A parte prática que você mostra no seu conteúdo é muito boa e ajuda muito.

Bro that Sony Venice is so good. You should do some videos where you shoot with older cinema cameras.
Would love to
learning so much from your video and podcasts. i just got easily sleepy by your voice. but the content is worth keeping up.
Great to hear!
Great video.
i just realize how Giancarlo has the same look as the protagonist from the serie "The bear"
Heard that before haha
brilliant content & channel.
Man, that looks like so much fun! Do you own most of your lights or do you rent? Also...I know you mostly focus on technique, would you ever do a video on what it's like negotiating a job with clients?
I do! But I also rent a ton as well
Has this been released, yet? Interested in seeing the final product.

A little both but mainly eye light
Love these, but feel no pressure.

People with expensive camera vs cheap camera 😊

What mic was that on the boom for indoor dialogue?
Has this been released yet? If so where can I find it?
whatsup mate? when is devin dropping this short?
Not sure!
Is the blue look just from the shift of white balance or is that a LUT?
White balance and how the lighting is toned
@@carlostigs Ahh okay. And if I’d want to do that desaturated green lighting look, would that be with rgb lights, gels, or simply color grading?
where can i see this short film??

hey bro question, when you are hired as a DP do you have to make a shot list? Or is that a director job?
A little of both but depends on the project. I am definitely involved in those conversations and can help make alternatives or provide solutions
CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE VIDEO ON CLAPPING, WHY DO YOU GUYS DO THAT BEFORE YOU SHOOT A SCENE?
see you from Ukraine, very useful and cool Behind The Scenes
Awesome, thank you!
