This is my favorite series to watch and you’re quickly becoming my favorite RUclipsr. Thanks for sharing things like this, I’m a beginner cinematographer/dp and want to do the sort of work that you do. These transparent bts videos have been more educational than any course or school I’ve been to. Thank you!
Listening to you talking gets rid of my stress and calm down my nerves. On top of that, you teach so much stuff and so valuable that I am very grateful Giovanni.
Right, I haven’t watched the whole video yet as I wanted to stop here and note something. The way you spoke about the sponsor and how you build it into the video as part of the process instead of a “sponsor break” is so simple, yet effective. I’d be much more likely to go and check it out than the “in your face” advertisements. Regardless of how true to reality it might have been to the actual process of you guys finding your sound, I wish we’d see more of this kind or including a sponsor!
Hey Carlo, I am really grateful for your videos. Sharing the BTS videos is really helpful for us future aspiring DP's/cinematographers. It's also refreshing seeing a chill and humble DP and your relationship on set with the cast and crew. Keep being humble and may God lift you high and high. I've learn so much from you, things I can even apply even using my Nikon camera😅 Please keep such videos coming. Much love from Kenya.
Thank you for this awesome content! This really helps a lot for up and coming film makers including myself and thank you again for sharing the whole process. Please keep going 🙏
Carlo…I can’t tell you enough how incredible it is has been to watch your growth and progression as a creator! And I know this is only the beginning of an incredible career! You’re killing it man! P.S. I still get quite the kick seeing the pool noodles being used on the Pavotubes as Diffusion. Incredible!
This was another great BTS video to watch. I really enjoy and appreciate the effort and the willingness to share what happens on your sets. Can’t wait for the next one!
Love BTS like this. It really showed how this set had a friendly mellow vibe between everyone. As a self-taught DP, I feel it would be good to learn some of the common terminology used by DPs. From some of what I heard, I could kinda guess what was being said. But, if there is a glossary of DP terms somewhere, I would love to get my hands on it. Anyway, this was a great video. It's always fascinating to watch BTS and see how everyone works together. Thanks.
Hey Carlo, been following you for a while after your work on Danny's film. Awesome breakdown of BTS. Hopefully looking forward to working with you in the future. All the best of best to you.
Great video, as always!! Big fan here. Looking forward to more content like this, hopefully with Douglas too! Steadicam look is always so nice. I have one question for you: I was wondering, do you prefer high or low density fluid haze? I was considering using haze in some months for some clips I will have to shoot, for a jazz music group. I did some research about haze and I saw there are different types of density...
soooo cool to watch, thank you!! 😍😍 such a chill vibe on the set. may i ask where did you learn so much about lighting? this is some next level i couldn‘t come up with, where all these types of lights need to be in order to create a specific look…😅
Love the BTS and the look of this spec ad. I would like to know how you calculate the time you need for each shot or how many shots did you do that day in total?
Thank you. And based on experience, Shit order and type. So calculating the time it takes to light a scene and how many shots we can get within that one set up without changing. It varies every time but after a while of doing it you can anticipate length of time some things will take
Love your work as always and BTS - such a great learning material. Also I love how cool you all are on the set. Are you nervous while shooting? Are you nervous more before the shooting day than on the day?
very insightful kinde informative educational and inspirational for those how starting this career path. me personally you are the perfect exemple how this indutry must work and creat. thanks and i wish i have more subscribe button.
In a recent video you talked about the responsibilities of being an EP and securing budget. I'm really curious about this project since it was a spec ad and you didn't have a client paying for it. I've been directing in Charlotte NC for a decade and even though I have a great community of talented collaborators, they don't work for free. Especially not with the amount of kit you're using here. Is this entire cast/crew lending their talents and gear for this project, or are you paying them? If so, where is that budget coming from? Thanks for the content, keep up the great work.
I want to shoot spec projects. But I’m terrible at directing. I also don’t enjoy producing/finding actors/locations. I just like being a dp and editing. I can hire out a director and producer. What it feels odd, that I’m the one wanting to do this project but not leading it. Would I hire a director and tell them to come up with an idea and just have me shoot it? Its been confusing so that’s why I have avoid spec project but I what to do them. Any advice?
Just do what I did. But also bring on a producer if you want. You can be the creator of a concept and idea but allow that idea to be put in the hands of other great directors creators etc
@@carlostigs OK, my bad. Maybe you can do that as a passion project, communication with the client, deciding on what and how to shoot, treatment, shot selection, team, gear, shoot and editing and delivery.
BTS is not about showing off great gear, it's about the struggle to get the job, the budget, team selection, location, actors, gear choosing and why, rehearsal, shot selection etc, and who to edit.
@@carlostigs Hi Gian, thanks for responding, I accept your view, I guess I am looking for a BTS that shows the communication between you and the client, how you decide on the shoot, look and feel, treatment and shot selection etc. Those are the areas I struggle with.
Again thanks for the BTS cuts that just show the flow of what happens on set when creating. The transparency is much appreciated, you all rock!!
Thank you!

Your production designer is so cool and humble 🤞🏽
She’s amazing
I've always been a 1 man band. It's crazy to me to put so much work into 1 scene. Maybe one day I'll be doing more of these kind of jobs.
You will

Thanks! I think it depends on the look but low density for more atmos loom maybe high density for a more visually noticble haze
thank you for this video , it's help me a lot of work mate !

kinda random, but im gonna need to see some sort of wardrobe tour lol ur fits are always great. love your work bro
Goodwill, Zara, Forever 21
Cool video !How do you not set off the smoke alarm with all that haze?
Thank you for the aspect ratio, perfectly fits my ipad
Thanks very much for sharing this BTS..
This is freakin awesome as always! Whats the lens at 13:13, love the look of that close up wide angle!
18mm on full frame!

@@carlostigs rest 2 questions?
Cool! When & where is the spot coming out?
Next week
Those lighting diagrams are sick, Carlo. How did you design them?
Within the Sidus app
Watching from Brazil🇧🇷 a hug!
Hellllo :)
thx for the breakdown, interesting
any chance you will do big breakdown of the lightning in the feature film you shoot and why you did what you did?
I do plan on that actually!
@@carlostigs really want to see even if it will be more then one video i really love the final look in every scene you did amazing work
You are the reason why I'm buying a ursa 12k next
Great stuff. The real question is, did you bring your yogamat on set?
HHah I did not
The sponsor spot was perfect haha. It felt like I would miss an important part of the video if I skipped the sponsor 🙏🏼
Hahahaha!
Thankyou for sharing information with the world... I learn alot from you❤😂
My pleasure 😊
5:19 classic dp moment ;)
Classic jndeed
Thanks for these BTS! Where can we find the commercial?
Coming out next week!
@@carlostigs ok great! 🙏
I’ve been wondering this for a while now, how do you get that white over exposed look in the window without it actually being over exposed?
The real question is where did you get that vest? Where's the affiliate link for that?
Amazon baby! Fisherman’s vest
You know what yeah yeah that now you pointed it out… yeah yup that vest…😅😂

LOVE these kind of Bts videos

I'm assuming that your tripod? What sachler head is that? Does it counterbalance that massive camera or you have to just lock it off?
I think it’s an 18p
It can counter balance
What filters were you using in your matte box?
Glimmer glass and black satin
where can i watch full completed video ???
Check my most recent video on my channel
What resolution are you exporting in for your YT video?
4k
For around 3:40 is the audio I backtracked like 2 seconds?
I don’t think so
Which steadicam is that?
Great job and thx for sharing
Love it
