love you
Hey I mean at least he's productive🤣
Wow! Are you Brazilian Jacq?
Zach, love your videos man!
@@thiagohigashi Portuguese!
Zero explanation needed. Fantastic!
Yeah bro it was genuinely amazing I couldn't believe how well done it was honestly.
I got it immediately and thought is was very good! We don't have any excuses for not filmmaking. Good work!
This was super cool Zach!
Cool experiment! And yes working with sound is a fantastic way to add another layer especially in indie filmmaking and working with limited resources. You can tell a bigger story without showing it.
Awesome, thank you!
@@ZachRamelan You did a good job of this, but I think it looks more like a movie trailer.
“… creativity creates creativity…”👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'm a master of the excuse. You just shattered them.
SO, this is amazing as anticipated. I've been working in film for 11 years. Started in Acting and currently I act as a 1st AC on union work and a DP/ director on indie work and I CAN verify that film sets WASTE a ton of money, cups ( that rarely get recycled) and time.
It is the era of indie, Get your keyboard and cameras out kids.
Thanks for sharing, man, I checked your work out, and it looks fantastic! I'm stoked to see the stuff you direct in the coming years!
@@ZachRamelan Thank you, Zach! It means a lot that you take time to respond. Hopefully we can collab one day!
I'm just going to put in the counterpoint that while it's often not a model of 100% efficiency, there are more variables and contingencies to manage on larger union productions that indie ones that lead to perceived waste. Unlike it indies they can't operate from a place of having "just enough to get it done" or "we don't have a backup, so we'll just cross our fingers" when there is so much money at stake. I too work on union shows and champion and participate in indie productions, but I don't like propogating the narrative that bigger productions are some sort of wasteful sham.
@@chupap1 Yes the scale is much larger, therefore more is needed in all departments. I just think it's ,managed poorly a lot of the time. Way too much food ,No recycling , 1000s of pages printed for call sheets/scripts, Sky lifts to the second floor when they could've used a Mambo, the list goes on... Doesn't mean all sets are like that but a lot of them maybe just feel too rich for my standards lolol. Either way we are all blessed AF to be in this world, keep creating , Respect.
@@eleventhvision I've seen a lot of push towards paperless in recent years on bigger sets, greener in various ways, but agreed there's always more to do and further to go. Sky lift vs mambo--there's an easier thing to tackle. Not sure exactly what you are referring to, maybe scissor lift? Having the ability to send a lamp operator up to precisely set the angle of the head vs roughing it in on the ground and sending it up on a stand only to have to bring it back down and make additional adjustments--that's an efficiency thing. Let alone the physical difficulty and possible danger of hoisting a big head up two stories on a stand! Safety and efficiency are not wasteful concepts...
Great channel! I always wanted to film a feature, but I decided to make a few shorts first to get a better idea of what I'm doing. I wanted to sell my feature script, but after not selling it, I decided to make it myself, knowing what I knew with making shorts. It was definitely tougher and I had a lot of locations. It was just me and a few friends of mine who acted, some helped with audio, but we made the feature I wrote, with no funding and filming it with the Sony a7s II, at the time. It was in 2016 and it took us three years because we worked during our free time. Fortunately, it did well in film festivals around the world, unfortunately, I couldn't get it distributed and Amazon Prime took it down in 2020. Lesson learned, find funding, write a contained script, and make those instead. Or a horror. They always sell. lol. Great stuff, Zack. I'm glad I found your channel.
Can you film be found anywhere now?
You just motivated to make my own small something too in the apartment. Nice work btw! 😁
Thank you!!! You have to - It's so fun!
I'd love to see a video where you talk about your FX3 camera settings. I know that's not everything but I'm always looking to see how I can get more out of my FX3
The concept was clear bro! Good job inspiring! 👌
this is really helpful! I am working on a short film right now that im doing completely on my own. It's sort of a dive into the realm of depression from my own experiences and this gave me some great ideas that will help me out with my short! So thank you so much for sharing and creating this!
That short was great lol, and the last second look into the camera just added to it :)
I got it instantly. Good job. It was enjoyable. Subscribed.
The sound effects were all great but they all felt the same level. No differences in distances, echo in the bath tub etc. looks wise though brilliant.
Love your videos Dude!! By far one of the best filmmaking channels on here!! Going to take or buy your four week filmmaking course!!! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Wow, thanks! the doors just opened for round 2!
Wow...that was soo good...I just can't seem to wrap my head around lighting...more into cinematography than directing cause I'm obsessed with image and sound...hopefully one day I'll finally understand 1% of how to use lights to dramatize my films
Hopefully this helped a little bit! Gonna release a video on lighting very soon!
@ZachRamelan it helped a lot! So thank you! Your way of executing your ideas is what makes your work unique.....amazing! Can't wait for the lighting video!
Definitely providing some solid inspiration for my own shorts!
That was pretty good. An excellent teaser for a movie.
I think he was going for a film. 😅
This turned out great! Thanks for sharing the process. The edit and sound design really takes this to another level.
There’s one problem - I don’t have the money to buy all that fancy stuff. I use an iPad and a tripod to film lol.
you dont need fancy stuff, u can use iphone or even ipad lol
Well done, I would not have noticed all the shots were static unless you had talked about it before. This is great !!
I got it I think. He was the murderer. Like a monster. Maybe werewolf. And he blacks out when it happens. And, he ended up killing everyone at the funeral. Sound about right? Great job by the way.
What I’ve noticed is that many short film creators excel at the technical aspects...mastering the equipment, blocking and scene structure....but they couldn’t craft a compelling story or narrative if their lives depended on it. They’re tech nerds masquerading as creatives and it shows.
I don’t fully agree as I think technical aspects has creativity within it as well and you have to create creative solutions and think creativity for that as well. And I think some of them have cool ideas and the production value often isn’t as tight or impactful as higher budget stuff. Course maybe that is a lack of tight impactful storytelling but it just feels like a lack of production value when watching I don’t know.
I agree. A lot of the short films are full of cliches, and the subject matter is always obvious and literal. You nailed it - they are tech guys with zero skills in storytelling.
This has been the problem of a lot of short films I've seen.
Dude! Such a sick little film! Two thumbs way up!
This is like the best ice cream sunday ever! It's like, you know you're going to get ice cream, but you may not know what toppings you're going to put on it. When it's done, it's delicious. - I just made that up, too. ;) Nice work! I like your short film a lot.
I'm just starting out in this world and I find your video very motivating.❤
Sretno i puno pozdrava. The great fact is that you have motivated a lot of people to try to make their own film. Today, technology is accessible, I mean the camera. But let's be serious, comparing yourself to Hollywood is crazy. I'm not saying this out of malice or jealousy, but so that you don't fall into a trap that could cost you your career. In this short film, you can see where your talent lies, what you're good at and where you've overestimated yourself. Making a film is teamwork. And a short film is always a challenge, which is why few authors deal with this form. Because you need to tell a story that has a beginning, middle and end, and you don't have 90, 100 or more minutes of time, you have 5 or 10 minutes. You have good potential, use it. Maybe you really are on the trail of a new way of film storytelling. Good luck and best regards.
Excellent job!
This is brilliant man. Excellent Breakdown.
Such a great video man!
I’m going to work on my film now. One location my bedroom let’s see how this one goes.
Very well done. I don’t know if anyone mentioned this, but it looks like there is a stopper in the drain, then there is a shot of an open drain from below. Minor quibble.
This is amazing thank you for the Ideas ❤🎉
Glad I could help!
This is pretty awesome thanks!
Great work Zach! Comming up with a story while shooting is very challenging but it turned out very good at the end. I defenitly learned something here
I'll never do that again haha, thank you so much!
@ZachRamelan 😂😂🙌
This is just the type of motivation that I want
Very good job and project
Too funny, my first thought was- lighting is intimidating, then you said it. For real, just illustrating what a simple light can do helps.
Wow! That was a amazing editing...I totally got the story. Reminds me of the old movie werewolf in London!
I felt that, too. :)
Man you nailed this 🔨
Wow. That was really cool. Nice work.
Dang, this is good.
try making a hollywood level film alone that's not dark. It will be 100 times harder
hell yeah
Love this
I wouldn’t say it’s “Hollywood level”
I need either my phone menu or RUclips’s menu to give me the option to switch to mono. So I can enjoy videos like this.
Love it
Love you!
Could be the Shawshank of our generation... Love it!!
that "walking" transition between the first shots are great!! how did you do it?
Tripod, shot the first one, then he changed clothes and filmed himself passing through. Then edition: Added zoom to simulate a dolly, put the take of him passing through on top, Masked with keys in premiere . That's my guess anyway
Amazing work!
Just wow and awesome.
Amazing work 👏
Awesome job man! The tripod shots rule
The BTS sucks, though... Missing a certain someone...
@ZachRamelan Ya I don't think you mentioned that, it was probably twice as much work having to set up good BTS angles!
Bravo! When is the sequel coming out?
This is really good stuff
very incredible sir
wow i didnt expect this
Great job with the sound design
it was awesome for not being pre-pro... was awesome!
I loved that thumbnail!
Dude, thanks for noticing, put a lot of time into it!
I’m impressed! Hope you’re proud of yourself
Loved this I’ve just subscribed, looking forward to seeing more. I think being creative is amazing I just struggle to express what I’m going to create until I’ve created it 😂 if that makes sense, I think my wife thinks I’m going mad sometimes! Haha I’m new to RUclips but loving the process. Thanks for a great video!
This was great!👍
I totally got the whole story 😂😂😂 good job
YES!!! i don't know what Jacquie's talking about
Earned a sub. But more importantly you’ve given me some real inspiration and motivation. So, please take my gratitude and I’ll take the lesson. 🙂
Great job!!!!
Just subbed! Good stuff man!
grate video as always!
Thanks a bunch!
nobody is making a 'Hollywood Level' film alone. You might make an "Indie Level" film or a "Cannes Level" film alone. Saying anyone can make a Hollywood Level film alone is hubris. It means you think you have the cinematography talent of Roger Deakins, the directing talent of Scorsese, the screenwriting talent of Charlie Kaufman, the editing talent of Thelma Shoonmaker, the producer talents of Jerry Bruckheimer, acting talent of Johnny Depp, sound design talent of Walter Murch, not to mention the countless highly skilled grips, gaffers, production designers, fx artists, practical effects experts...the list goes on.
But yeah, knock yourself out making a solo film...just don't pretend like it will be the quality that Hollywood can produce because you'll be sorely disappointed when it isn't, or delusional if you still think it is.
That was SO COOL!!!
I'm a new filmaker and i wasn't sure if I would be able to make a horror movie. So i just assumed i could. And its been out for a week and people are actually watching it. I've never felt more accomplished
absolutely incredible and just subscribed
This is awesome!
💪
I love it
Hi this is my inspiration to do some action stuff with my smartphone at home with my brother i wish i had that kind of camera btw I'm from Philippines support you guys impressive🎉🎉😢
Don't worry, the important thing is the story you want to tell. A smartphone is great for experimenting, think about how you're going to create an atmosphere, where you're going to set the light, what angle works best to capture the action on film. Trust me, I had nothing, but I was persistent and now I work as a cinematographer. Don't give up on what you want.
I think you did an amazing job bro. Sound design was inane
Lighting is simple, where there is light, there is hope.
She doesn't know what Shawshank Redemption is?! XD I'm younger than her, and I know! Also, I think it's really frickin' cool to learn that Emperor's New Groove was an improv movie. The team still sat around a table to throw ideas around, but the fact that this little short film was spawned WHILE being shot is still pretty good and really interesting.
This is Dope!!! 🔥🔥What was your apertures that you shot with?
Great. Some great tips in there.
Great video. You are sharing so much great advice. Love it!
I got it, lol...and thanks for inspiring, I wanna do this too!
You should, just write a script before hand lol
so good
Great job! :)
this was good
Colours are great, really good job😊 Sounddesign could be better and especially in the transition phase. And that's where this flick falls through, in that very moment. But it costs a lot of money to do these kinda things believable. It's to short, not enough details and as said, the sound design. Other than that, really really good job man😮😍
Sound design can make even the worst films seem really good. I admire this part of the process, which is almost above any other category of filmmaking, and hopefully, this short story shows that sound SHOULDN'T be overlooked.
Good short man. 👍
Love your informative videos.
Thanks for watching them!
Your welcome
This was impressive! 😮 How much to do a video game trailer?
very well done
You could have lit the bathroom scene like they did in the movie Poltergeist when that crew member guy went in there and started peeling his face off.
Excellent you got a new sub
YES!!!!!
Thats cool
Congrats! You nailed it! But I think we're overthinking the lighting setup. When I look at some of my favorite movies, many scenes are lit very simply, often with natural lighting, yet the story takes center stage in those scenes. Don’t get me wrong; I also love beautifully composed shots; I’m just saying it doesn’t need to be perfect in every shot.
Agreed; this is my philosophy, too. Thanks for watching man
Exactly the reaction I get whenever I show my wife something I made. 😅
Perfect.
Amazing Sub🎉🎉
