Kristen you were the first person I watched for learning how to use my instant pot 😊. I use it all the time. Harper is adorable and she is growing up so fast
Okay, so I have had two Instapots. The first one ended after 3 attempts to use and a powerful mess in the kitchen. The second has say on my counter, unused for two entire years. Today, I really just wanted to have some rice, so I dug in. I found you, and guess what, now I actually made something! It's only rice, but dang it, I'll take it. THANK YOU for not letting me feel spoken down to. I am on a health mission and I am so grateful for your perspective and way of making me be at ease (others on YT don't do that). Officially your fan. Thank you!
My biggest battle was learning how to use saute - there are no instructions, no one explains it, but I finally figured it out. Each time you hit the saute button it changes the heat setting - low - med - high - you just need to watch as you hit saute to get the heat setting you need. Mine also defaults to 30 minutes then shuts off. You cannot walk away from saute - its like regular cooking, you have to watch and stir or bottom will burn! I love using Instapot for rice - perfect every time! If you want fluffy non-sticky rice rinse it first. I almost always let my pot naturally cool down 10-20 minutes before releasing. I keep a little notebook on what I cooked in the pot - recipies and times as sometimes the recommended time is too much or too less, and 3 months later you can't remember.
Thanks for the saute tips. I actually hate the texture of the rice - bit mushy on the exterior of the grain but still a bit hard on the inside. My previous old pressure cooker and my rice cooker had rice come out perfect evety time.
@@jj-87ro Only cook your rice 5 minutes - release after 10 min after stops cooking - won't be mushy but cooked through. I use 1 c plus 1/4 water to 1 cup rice, a little extra water will not hurt. season after cooking
I'm pretty sure that if you change the time after selecting a Preset button (like Eggs or Soup), it will remember that time, so you can actually program your own settings. That is really nice. It's a little annoying to have to toggle the time button, especially between eggs (5 min) and a pot roast (90 min).
I love your videos. Before I got an instant pot, I watched you how to video. Then when I got my first instant pot, I watched it again. Now a couple years later, I’m watching it again! I can’t tell you how many times mine hasn’t pressurized because the ring wasn’t in all the way. And then recently it wasn’t sealing right because somehow the flat metal piece under the valve had gotten bent. I pushed it down with a butter knife and now it seals right.
Got my first one ever a few days ago!! I am wondering what i waiting for! I love it and thanks to all your videos i was no where near as terrified as I thought I would be. It is a game changer in the kitchen. I have made ribs, ham, veggies, and soup!! I am amazed. Thank You so much for helping me learn this amazing Instant pot!!
Thanks Kirsten always good to see you! Thanks for this update especially for those of us that have put another Instant Pot on our holiday wish list! Love hearing a Happy Harper in the background! Love ❤ and 🤗
Thanks, Kristen, for the basics again. I know so many HAVE an IP but have never USED it. I was one of those people before I discovered Six Sisters a few years ago. I bought 2 on the same day in July 2018 - one for myself and one I had sent to my daughter. Hers is *still* in the unopened box! I thought I was bad just looking at the box for a couple of years, but she wins a prize! 😂 Anyway, it’s one of those things where you need to put aside your fears and just go for it! Once you do, it’s so easy that you wonder why you were so frightened. It definitely falls under the category of “Things I worried about needlessly and put off for far too long, only to discover there was zero reason to worry.” It was extra silly in my case since I’d been using an old school stovetop pressure cooker since I was 12 or 13, so about 50 years and my mother and grandmother had used them all their lives, too! 😂😂 Anyone still on the fence should trust you and your calm, clear instructions and just give their pot a try. Harper is such a beauty! But she’s also not a pushover - she’s sweet, but she makes her wishes known! ❤❤❤
Thanks! I just filled out the form for the cheat sheet. I like it also because nothing has to be defrosted. For example, I can use frozen chicken to make chicken soup without the extra step of defrosting. Easy and always good. Thanks again!
My mom bought me one for Christmas about 6-7 years ago. Today, I pulled it out of my basement, scrubbed of the years of dust and made the best beef barbacoa I have ever made!
Thank you for sharing kristen have a blessed day stay safe and healthy. Always a plus for me when you show how to instructions I'm new with the instant pot using it ,I've had mine for 10 years gift from my son I just Can't get the hand of it I'm going to save this video and do step by step instructions. Thank you kristin. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
I have the exact same two pots and I prefer the 6 over the 8 for one specific reason. If I had a Dollar for every time I forget to hit start button on my 8 I’d be pretty wealthy. Other than that I love them both for what they can do. I should send you some of my metal Kabob sticks I made for my 8. They Air-fry Kabobs like you wouldn’t believe. BTW I’m back from Afghanistan living in Utah again. It’s been a while.
I started with the duo crisp, so when I got the duo plus, I kept hitting the delay start button 😂 I just wish they were all the same. I feel awkward not pushing start.
That discoloration in your pot will come off if you clean it with Barkeeper Friend. It's found where you would find other cleaners such as Comet or A-jack's Cleansers.
Hi, thanks for all you do ! I do need some help....I keep getting burn notices. I have the food and liquid and stir it, but the liquid goes to the top once it starts and then it burns. I can't use the rack cause stuff just falls through. Any suggestions?
Amazing ....pls I need 1 spot Frome where can i find this kind of spots Thank you if any body have them pls tell me from where as I need to bring it to my house.
Thanks for showing us this. I don't use my instant pot too often, but this makes me want to get it out and try some stuff.. 😜 And I love seeing Harper, she's so cute!!! 🤗🤗🤗😁👍😁👍👍😁😁😁👍
I grew up with parents who used an old school pressure cooker for years and years. They did whole chickens and so many things with it. I would help my parents prepare supper with the pressure cooker too. So for me, when I received my first instant pot, I found it so odd that I was terrified of it. Lol Thankfully with the help of your channel, and my trusty mom (who I call a OG pressure cooker expert) I finally have been using mine for a while. I'm not sure what one I have, it's older, and has a manual button on it, that's the setting I always use.
She did say she doesn’t recommend using it as it doesn’t work very well, something I’ve heard repeatedly in various different places from others as well…
Even though I have been a subscriber for many years (even pre-Covid) I enjoyed this review and seeing the newer Air Crisp Pot. We have the place on top Air Fryer for the duo that we use every every day to crisp up my husband’s lunchtime pizza! Both units are used a lot, as I don’t particularly like to cook, but using the Instant Pot and Six Sister’s recipes makes it easy! 🥰
But that means actually having to do work and then clean up afterwards. Mine has been setting on my counter collecting dust for sometime now. It makes an excellent paper weight.
Great vid. I just got my IP and I'm cooking a stew. Hope it works well. I should have listene to your vid first-good suggestions on the wait time. You may remind people to not put their faces above the release valve-if we need to tell folks to not put hot coffee between their legs, we need to remind people to not place their faces above the steam release button. thank you
Can you make a video of all the different kinds of instant pot I’m gonna need a new one but it has to have the yogurt button we make yogurt from our goat milk all the time
I still use an Old fashioned pressure cooker and no way do you touch the top rocker knob without danger LOL ! I use it for my roasts and vegetables but may invest in one of these advanced pots 😃
I bought 2 instant pots at once they have both went out together. I bought them off the television buy one get one with life time warranty on both. just don't know where I send warranty work. Does anyone know?
Ok I’ve had an Instant pot for THREE YEARS and was so intimidated that I’ve only ever used the slow cook function. THANK YOU for helping me turn my “crock pot” into something more useful! ❤ Renee
I find it interesting that you can use so little water in both these pots. The instructions for my 6 quart pot say I have to use a minimum of 1.5 cups. Can I get away with less?
I think it’s a difference in how the pots are heated. Crockpots are designed to heat from all sides with heating elements in the bottom and all around the sides. The instant pot heating element is in the bottom only so it’s trying to slow cook by sending the heat via transfer and radiating up the metal sides of the pot. It’s pretty much the same as cooking in a pot on top of your stove, unattended all day. You end up with dishes that can be burnt on the bottom, but not done all the way through.
I just subscribed today to learn how to use my pot. I have been having it for 5 years. The only thing I cooked in it was red beans. Watching this video shows it is very easy. Thank you ! Now I just need to learn what to cook

So why is the slow cooker function not good on a instant pot?
I think it’s a difference in how the pots are heated. Crockpots are designed to heat from all sides with heating elements in the bottom and all around the sides. The instant pot heating element is in the bottom only so it’s trying to slow cook by sending the heat via transfer and radiating up the metal sides of the pot. It’s pretty much the same as cooking in a pot on top of your stove, unattended all day. You end up with dishes that can be burnt on the bottom, but not done all the way through.
