    The oldest generation of Spartan Armor and yet it's still the best looking...

      Spartan armor started to show more its “functionality over aesthetic” philosophy over time with every new generation of armor.

      @@punctuationman334 A lot of people used to think MJOLNIR Mark VI looked better at the time than V. That said, I definitely prefer the B model aesthetically, so maybe you're right.

    Mark 4 is by far the best looking Spartan armour. If they just added energy shields then it’d be perfect. I really hope we see it in Infinite.

  • @dutch_asocialite
    @dutch_asocialite 5 лет назад +106

    "Plating of the armour is designed to be structurally limited in its motion; this means plates near joints are designed to hit each other to prevent the risk of hyper-extension..."
    That is _soooo_ fucking good to hear. It's ridiculous how many times I've looked into an armour system (beside medieval plate) that goes, "the armour is fitted with plates designed to allow a 360 degree range of unhindered movement," when that's supposed to be an issue armour prevents.

    • @thememeilator2633
      @thememeilator2633 2 года назад +3

      I don't see how that's a bad thing though. Wouldn't you want the armor to provide as much freedom of movement as possible? Bare with me here because i know nothing about how armor is designed

    • @dutch_asocialite
      @dutch_asocialite 2 года назад +20

      @@thememeilator2633 I exaggerated, but simply put armour is as much about preventing direct trauma from reaching your body as it is preventing your body from moving in ways it shouldn't at speeds it shouldn't; say, for example, whiplash, suffered after being knocked down due to a couched rest-assisted full-gallop horse-powered lance strike, or your knee bending the wrong way because your kneecap slipped. Medieval plate took this into consideration, with helmets that incorporated neck guards locking the head in position a la the Great Bascinet or Frog Helm so as to insure the neck during jousts in tourneys or battle, while joint mechanisms would only straighten out so far, having the arm slightly bent in order to ensure nothing broke because one's opponent managed to combine his arm with a sword and form a lever.
      This is still somewhat an issue with Third Generation Warfare, as explosives, vehicular-induced trauma and other things pose much similar threats, being liable to force body parts to bend every wrong way; for example, in the case of Mjolnir, should the head be rocked back due to an explosion the base of the helmet will meet the top of the breastplate's rear component and lock the head from moving any further back, preventing whiplash and other cervical injuries. Presumably. While this would prevent one from looking straight up, it protects the wearer while still enabling one to maintain a good visual range.
      In summary, it's not to say _effective_ motion is limited because of this plate structure; one should still be able to walk, kneel, sit etc. with reasonable normalcy, I've even read of a particular French Prince that danced in his armour as part of his training, it's just certain extreme manoeuvres - like a standing split - are impossible to perform for safety reasons.

      @@clxwncrxwn no Spartan is 10 feet tall, dude... in armor, any Mark armor, a Spartan2 is 7ish feet tall. 6ish foot outside of armor... height does not change at all with any Mark or Variant of armor. Not Gen1 Mark 4 nor Gen2 Mark 6, they are all the same difference giving the Spartan roughly a foot of added height. The only difference in height is the height of the Spartans themselves, and no Spartan was 10 feet tall, even the tallest Spartan was not even close to 10. John117 is 6'2 normally and 7'2 in armor... The tallest Spartan, of any Spartan gen, is Kurt051 and he was 7'2 normal, always said to be a full head taller than Chief which is one(1) foot and in armor Kurt is 8'2 So not anywhere near your 10 feet tall Spartan statement. Where did you even get 10 feet from? Like it's almost common knowledge now that they're 7 feet tall given through the games, novels, expanded media. Most people just know it so to hear someone say 10 feet tall is so weird. Like when you hear the generic saying when someone is exaggerating "he was 10 feet tall!" Talking about taller than average people who are like 6'3 lmao...

      MJOLNIR-ARMOUR/EGYPTIAN-POWER ARMOUR/POWER-ARMOUR-COOLANT-SYSTEM/VENTILATION-SYSTEM
      A Egyptian power armour will need small, twin ventilation and coolant system. These will be outfitted near the shoulder [blades] of the wearer/user. They will resemble large, bulky protrusions (like twin backpacks) that system from the shoulder area, as though they were wings. This complex ventilation system is what makes the power armour comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. Like the life support system, the ventilation and coolant system will need to be monitored and regulated by an in-built Ai system.
      Update (08/03/2022): I wonder if slime-mold [technology] can be utilized to optimise the efficiency of the ventilation system, i.e. to integrate a thin suit-made of living slime mold (if successful, this would also help to minimise weight of the power armour, thus aiding and ensure that energy is spent elsewhere). The slime-mold suit will need to make contact with the wearer/user; where it can conduct heat and other biological waste (such as sweat, and potentially dead blood cells from a bleeding wound) away from the user, and expel it near the air-ducts or any other preferred location.
      NOTE: Egyptian power-armour will combine the functionality of a thin space suit (like that seen in "space X's space suit"), a basic medical, life support system and monitors, and finally a knights suit of armour. The suit will electronic, and obviously computerized (assisted by a combination of AI systems). When it action, it will be somewhat fluent, and capable of making fluid action and movement, despite being a robotic suit (LLMs that are dedicated to mimicking natural body moment in fluid motion will comprise the majority of the suit's AI output). Lastly, the suit will need to be water resistant (water resistant spray, that is difficult to chip and wear out after extended usage will be preferred), and its ventilation system will be integrated with a small filtration system. This will make the suit resistant to poison or environments with airborne, hazardous substance.
      NOTE: A tough plastic material should be utilised on the exterior of the [Egyptian] power-armour. While being weather resistant and durable, its primary pose will be to give the power armour form (so that it looks futuristic and formidable-further adding to its ability to function as a deterrence), as well as double as additional shock-absorption/shock-dampener. The material will then need to be painted with metallic paint, so as it give it a metallic aesthetic in its composition (deceit/material mimicry).
      //Close.

    Hands down my most favourite Spartan armour set ever.
    I was introduced to halo with ce as a little kid a long time ago my artistic preferences and tastes would change with time but as an Adult I can confidently say Mjolnir MK IV is the definitive Spartan Look.
    ___
    Chief's infinite look will define the Xsx for the decade, but when I hear spartan and halo the mk Iv immediately comes to mind.
    It's such a refined look and with the HW2 cutscenes shows that the Bungie design can translate to modern times perfectly.
    ok I get that the first game was made by Ensemble but they painstakingly adhered to the Identity bungie had been establishing so it was natural that 343 and Creative Assembly would continue that trend.
    _
    Spartan Jerome, Alice and Douglas look amazing in HW1/2 the cutscenes are so Beautiful and the 'Know your enemy' ad gives me goosebumps everytime and stands as my most favourite piece of Halo media ever made.
    at 8:40 that's what comes to mind when I think Spartan, heroic and symbol of the strength of Humanity and the Unsc.
    It isn't as advanced or modern as the spartan Iv's but the Spartan II's in Mjolnir MK IV stands as the Best spartan design ever.
    __
    HW2 was given the challenge of fitting in with what 343i had started, but with the oppertunity of bringing the Spirit of Fire back along with everything from that old era of Halo. Became the push to form to bridge the old and new identity for Halo Infinite.
    Badass without compromise, Heroic without being overstated, Dutiful and Iconic.
    The Mjolnir MK IV.

    Technically we as humans in the 21st century, can make this armor today but it would be slight downgraded because augmentations dont exist as we know it and technology setbacks are garanteed

      The power source would also be bad. It would resemble Orión project armor suits that had a cable running to an external power supply. Meaning limited usage and range of the suit.
      That and the numeral interface stuff can’t be achieved.

    Something I've always wondered is how the unsc vs covenant war would have gone if the unsc had gone a few more years before being discovered or if the unsc had around a decade to try to prepare for the war.

  • @NewtypeZeta

    Okay, I have to say, all very well done, but I also just got done reading Halo: Silent Storm, and the Master Chief HIMSELF states that MJOLNIR can cycle air in the rebreathers for *90* minutes, and this is only the most recent canon use of this '90-minute-air-supply' factoid, for it is in many other canon novel references also. Am i missing something about the way rebreathers work?

    • @celuler22
      @celuler22 5 лет назад

      They scrub out carbon dioxide by a chemical reaction so they do have a limited supply

    • @NewtypeZeta
      @NewtypeZeta 5 лет назад

      Agreed, that makes sense. I am referring to the numerous Canon references, namely from Silent Storm, where MJOLNIR internal air supply lasts 90 minutes on rebreathers. Heck, Steve Downes narrated an excerpt of the book prior to release that stated this very fact. I am just trying to see if I misread or heard incorrectly, because these videos are head and shoulders above my understanding of materials science!

      If you could move past the power production and containment issue we have probably 60% of the tech for this already. The energy shield we couldn't make yet and irl would probably be a gravity field if something like that is possible. The nueral imputs are probably 15 years away if Elon Musk has his way with how nueralnets lol.

    Based on this break down of the armor, it really sounds like Spartans were created/oggmented for the operations of the suit. In other words, the suits were created first but average adult humans were never able to achieve symbiosis with the suit. Which led Dr. Halsey to start the Spartan program by abducting kids as it would have been too expensive and time consuming to start an entirely new division to conceive and foster newborns which could potentially yield unsuccessful, hence the quickest and cheapest way around the unknown was to abduct healthy kids for immediate testing. In short, Spartans are machines first, humans after and all the doings of the Librarian reparating the throne humanity was destined for.

    I have one suggestion for all Spartans. A second brain connector maybe in the base of the spine and a redesign helmet to incorporate a internal support so to prevent direct head punches from disconnecting the Neural interface.
