  • my customer sourced this new engine from a supplier in southern Ontario. Www.onestopgoatshop.com
    I'm not sure where he gets these engines but it was basically a brand new engine supposedly from a 19 or 20 Ram. The video focuses on what I had to do to make the swap over. I've saved the engine oil cooler to possibly install at a later date once I figure where the coolant line runs to.

    My 2015 ram with the 2018 low milage motor is running great . Only had to change 3 items . I removed both knock sensors from
    The old block to the new block . And one temp
    Sensor . The rest just simply plugged in . The exhaust manifolds from the new motor worked just fine . Thanks Phillip !!!

    Thank you so much for this video. Even after watching this video twice, all the naysayers said it could not be done without changing the wiring harness and ecm. I am glad I did not listen to them. I bought a 5.7 Hemi that was removed from a 2022 Ram that looked brand new. I installed it into my 2011 RAM 1500 Laramie 4 wheel drive. I just had to swap the Crank Position Sensor, the temp sensor, the flex plate, the passenger side exhaust and the throttle body from my old tired engine. Everything bolted up nicely. I cleared the codes and the engine started right up on the first try. So yes, a 2022 5.7 Hemi 8th letter T will fit into a 2011 with 8th letter t, probably even a 2009 and work just fine. I am so glad I did not listen to all the people who said it would not work. Thank you again

    I'm in the middle of this swap right now ('12 truck, engine from a '21 Classic). Just want to mention the newer trucks appear to have electronic power steering, so make sure to keep your serpentine belt and move over the power steering pump if you're buying an engine from a newer truck. Mine still had the belt on it, which is shorter (due to not having a power steering pump). The engine in my truck was seized so I had to leave the torque converter on - you can remove the engine with the converter still attached, but you'll need to remove the A/C condenser/tranny cooler and drop the front diff as the engine won't come forward far enough to clear the transmission input shaft from the converter.
    Worst part of the whole removal was the damn fuel line to the rail.

    Nice job of explaining the process....I am rebuilding a 2011 hemi that had a bad cam. After watching your video and taking months to get parts and machine work done I realize I should have just transplanted a different engine. That bracket on the left side motor mount took awhile to figure out I just pulled the mount bolts out of the block and left the mount and the bracket in the chassis. Don't know If I can install the engine that way or not. Its been a few months and route everything in the right order should be a challenge at least. Anyway your video will help so thanks. One last thing I sent the block to get bored and got it back with a bag of plugs and no idea where they go as I didn't remove them before I sent it to the shop. I couldn't find ANY information on placement so I am just installing them where I think they should go and hope for the best I guess.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching. That bracket on the left motor mount to differential and bellhousing is evil. I fought with it quite awhile. I ended up leaving the left motor mount off and removed that bracket entirely to install the engine. Then installed the bracket and mount but it was not easy. Are the plugs you mentioned threaded? If so they are oil gallery plugs. They remove them for cleaning purposes but they usually reinstall them. Good luck.

    • @WTFFlipSide101
      @WTFFlipSide101 2 года назад

      @@PhillipBailey Yes they are threaded except for the rear cam plug. I am more worried about missing one that may be recessed or not obvious and end up having to redo all this. I think I have them all but I was surprised at how little info was available on them even the dealer didn't know where they all went. I wasn't to happy that the machine shop that removed them didn't reinstall them.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  2 года назад

      @@WTFFlipSide101 Only the machine shop would typically remove them in order to thoroughly clean the oil galleries. I would speak with them as to their specific locations especially internally in the front and the rear of the block which you don't want to miss. If you have none left over I would expect that you would be ok. So they didn't reinstall the rear cam plug either? That one typically cannot be reused or did they give you new plugs. That's part of their job in my opinion. I'd go see them.

      Hello Phillip great video .
      Do you think a2019-2020 engine would fit in a 2015 . Do you know if Dodge have addressed their cam lifter issues in the 2019-2020 . I wish you were in Oklahoma I would love to use your service . Mine at 200,000 miles the cam has an issue and I am on the fence with just a cam and lifters . You have any thoughts value your opinion in their matter .
      Thank you

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  Год назад

      @@timcunningham5925 I honestly can't guarantee the two engines are the same. I would expect the local salvage yard could tell if they are compatible and if not what's is different. 200k miles is quite a lot to invest in just a cam and lifters considering how much labor is involved pulling heads etc. Do you just R and R the heads or do you have them reconditioned while off. If the body of the truck is worth the investment I'd say try to find a low mileage newer engine. AFAIK there were no improvements done internally to address the lifter rollers failing and destroying the xam lobe. They did add an engine oil cooler between the oil filter and block which might help lower oil temps a bit. Be sure to use synthetic oil and change it regularly. I'd say 3 to 5k max between changes especially if the vehicle has short drive cycles ar city speeds. Since the cam lobes and rollers on the lifters are lubed by oil thrown from the crank extended idling reduces lubrication. BTW I took this original engine apart and it had two scuffed pistons. The cam was fine and so were the lifters.

      I was told by the supplier that he has done several of these swaps with no problem. The crank sensor itself was different in the plug. Cam and crank reluctors are the same. I was worried though I have to admit. Come to think of it I never did a crank relearn on this. It runs super smooth and nice and quiet. The engine was basically new. I drained out the oil that was left in it and it was clean.

      When you watch the data parameters does it register that it has detonation? Is it trying to retard the timing on one or both banks? Could it be a mechanical problem in the used engine you installed? Did you hear the engine run before you installed it? One other thing you can try is a cam to crank offset relearn with a compatible scan tool. Could it be a loose flywheel or torque converter?

      2500 and 3500 5.7 trucks do not have (mds) like the auto trans cars and the ram 1500. I "believe" you can use a 5.7 from any 2009/2010 and newer ram 2500/3500. Supossidly in 2013 they changed the crank shaft tone wheel on the hemi's. Both have the same tooth count though. I "believe" you can used the newer engines ,with the slightly different crank tone wheels, in the older 2009-2012 trucks as this video shows, but not the other way around- no older tone wheel in the newer 2013+ vehicles. Hope that helps.
